"What? A total mess?" Wolf asked groggily, running a hand through his hair, which did nothing to make it better—if anything, it just made it even messier and caused it to fall into his eyes.

Bridge tilted his head. "Kind of. But in a pretty way." He came to sit down on the floor next to the bed, looking up at Wolf.

Wolf moved so that he was partially draped over the side of the bed, looking down at Bridge. He had foregone using his contacts now, as Bridge's compliment about his eyes had brought some confidence back into him. Plus, he was just a tad too lazy to bother putting them in and taking them out.

@bubblegum

Bridge smiled up at him, once again admiring his eyes in the early morning light. "I know - I know I've told you this…before, but I really like your - your eyes."

Wolf smiled back, his eyes brightening. "It's always nice to hear it, though," he told Bridge. "I like yours better—gold is a really pretty color, especially for eyes."

@bubblegum

"Really?" Bridge asked, looking up with what were almost like stars in his eyes. "Thank you…"

Wolf stared at the stars in Bridge's eyes for some time before answering. "Anytime." He didn't move, just continued to drape over the side of the bed with his head resting on the edge.

"Don't - don't fall," Bridge warned with a small giggle. He wasn't strong enough to catch Wolf if he did fall, though he would certainty try.

Wolf laughed slightly. "I'm pretty sure I can handle the small drop, even if I were to fall," Wolf said with an amused sparkle in his eyes.

@bubblegum

"Well…okay. Just - just don't hurt yourself," Bridge replied, tilting his head at him and grinning - just as there was a loud thud from three stories below.

Wolf was immediately alert. He frowned and quickly pushed himself up in bed, looking over at the door. They were the only ones here, so that either meant some more stragglers, or… "Bridge, gather our supplies and get ready to run," he said as he got out of the bed.

@bubblegum

"W…what?" Bridge asked nervously, standing shakily to his feet and walking carefully over to the table, where he tossed the food they had into a little bag. "What - oh no. It's…an inspection, isn't…it?"

"I'm hoping not, but it's better to be cautious than just sitting here and waiting." He quickly made the bed until it looked just how it was when they first got there, then went over to Bridge to help him gather up the stuff. He shoved stuff into his bag and handed the other boy the remaining food to put into the little bag.

@bubblegum

Bridge packed it all up and slung the back over his shoulder, leaning against Wolf. "What…what if they - they come in?"

Wolf wrapped his arms around Bridge in a comforting hug. "We'll be okay," he said with false confidence.

@bubblegum

"Okay…okay," He breathed, leaning into him some more and sighing. "Okay."

Wolf gently cupped Bridge's face and kissed his forehead. "It's going to be okay, but we need to go."

@bubblegum

Bridge's face flushed the tiniest bit, before nodding and standing up straight. "Where…where do - do we go?"

Elevator or staircase, elevator or staircase. He didn't know which to pick, so he just went with the first one that came to mind. "Quickly down the staircase."

@bubblegum

He nodded, reaching for the doorhandle and pulling back at the last second. "Do you…do you know - where they are?"

Wolf held his finger to his lips as he listened. It sounded like they were checking the floors beneath them. "Either first or second floor," he said.

@bubblegum

"We could…go up, and then take - the other, the other flight of stairs…down," He suggested, tilting his head.

Wolf nodded, liking that plan. He grabbed his bag and put on his shoes. "Okay, let's go," he said, opening the door for Bridge to go first.

@bubblegum

Bridge took a step outside of the door, moving the rest of him out into the open hallway. He glanced fearfully back at Wolf. God, he was so scared.

Wolf held his bag in one hand and Bridge's hand in the other, pulling him down the hall—but still being gentle for the other boy's sake. He kept murmuring to Bridge reassurance that it's all going to be okay.

@bubblegum

Bridge kept a tight grip on his hand, thankful for his presence. He followed him along the hall and up a couple flights of stairs until they reached the fourth floor. Now, he could hear whoever it was on the floor just below them. They moved fast.

Wolf cursed in a foreign language—a particularly angry language, as it had many colorful curse words—and led Bridge to the other side of the building to the second staircase. "Let's hope they won't go down this way," he murmured, as if afraid his voice would resonate to downstairs.

@bubblegum

Bridge only nodded, looking up at Wolf. He was putting all his trust into him, but that was alright.

Wolf led them down the stairs, staying as quiet as the could. They, unfortunately, had to go slow to minimize the amount of noise they made, but they were making relatively good time.

@bubblegum

Eventually, they reached the ground floor, the sounds of any other activity faded by now. Bridge breathed out a slow sigh of relief but still clutched Wolf's hand.
