He Rules From a Throne of Deceit (O/O)(Historical RP)(Open!)

Based on the historical fiction novel The Man In The Iron Mask by Alexandre Dumas.

Set in the 18th century, in a fictional kingdom called Eadera

18 years prior, the Eaderan queen gave birth to identical twins—two, handsome boys. They grew up together in the castle together without a care in the world, and everyone assumed they were as close as identical brothers could be. The two of them had unique brooches that they were to always wear, in both the castle, and when out in public. But during the brothers’ 18th birthday party, the king and queen die in a horrible accident— an assassination by a neighboring kingdom. One of the twins, the second born, takes this opportunity to tell the kingdom that his brother was killed in the assassination as well, so that he could take control of the kingdom, and not the first born. He says he has proof of his death, and he holds up his brother’s brooch. The second born has his brother sent to the dungeon with his face concealed, so no one may ever know.

Will the imprisoned brother ever find a way out to freedom? Or will he die before having the chance to seek justice?

A few notes!

• I’d like to keep this PG-13, particularly if there is some romance added for either of the brothers (e.g. if the new king has a spouse or the brother in the prison meets someone)
• We can add characters throughout for the plot, but the template is for the two brothers
• Keep responses descriptive and able to keep the plot going (experienced RPer preferred)
• I’m open to ideas for the plot, especially if it gets dry (the more drama, the better)
• Good grammar please!
• This world won’t be magical
• This country is based off of European countries in the 18th century, the culture most likely will have few tweaks from French or English culture
• I can be either brother, so choose between the second born and first born (first born is the one imprisoned)
• this will probably be taken to PMs, I typically respond quicker there

Appearance: Andrey likes to keep his hair, a pale tawny color, at a medium length just past his shoulders. He usually prefers to keep it down, but for formal events, he’ll either tie it back or wear a wig. He’s of average weight and build to match his average height, but he carries a little bit extra weight in his stomach and jaw. His eyes are hazel, with a touch more brown than green.
Identifying marks: A scar below his right ear, it isn’t as noticeable, especially when his hair is down.
Quirks and Habits: When bored or anxious, he twirls a strand of his hair in his fingers
Personality type: Andrey is a natural leader, even when he doesn’t need to be. He’s vain and egotistical, especially when it comes to trying to outshine his “older” brother. He takes action first, often leaving himself to deal with the consequences later.
Motivation: He’s jealous of his father and brother, and the power that they have/will have over the kingdom. He’s very close with his mother, however, and one of his motivations is to make her proud.
Other: He has a soft spot for the castle dogs, Clumber Spaniels

Appearance: Cassius has long, silky blond hair that he usually keeps in a loose plait over one shoulder, his fringe sits just above his eyes. He is tall, has a muscular build from all of his training, broad shoulders, a well defined jawline and green eyes. His complexion is fairly neutral.
Identifying marks: A branding scar mars his lower abdomen from when he was younger.
Quirks and Habits: N/A
Personality type: Cassius is a strong minded individual who knows how to make logical decisions and what the long term effect will be. He's firm, knows how to handle people, and very sociable. He isn't one to fall into the trap of narcissism as he doesn't believe that kind of selfishness will do anyone any good. He's very respectable, and is respected by most people.
Motivation: His motivation is that if he fails as a king, then harm will come to his younger brother and the people he cares about.
Other: He plays the violin.

“To Andrey!” The king finished his toast to his newly 18 year old son. He held up his ornate chalice, followed by his wife, and the other participants at the banquet table. He tilted a long sip of red wine into his mouth. His eyebrows furrowed, noting the strange flavor. It tasted like wine, yes, but with an added punch. He easily dismissed it as a more powerful alcohol and sat back down in his chair, straightening his tailcoat.

Fashionably dressed in tassels, golden buttons, and a colorful coat, Andrey basked in the attention he was getting from his birthday party. He took his own long drink of the wine. He lifted an embroidered napkin to his mouth, then went right back to smiling and accepting the murmur of congratulations from the guests his parents had invited. He sat beside his older brother at the dinner, something he preferred not to do very often. Andrey didn’t speak to his brother much more than a few bland comments here and there, but the sight of their pale-faced father was enough to make him curious. He leaned over, “Does Father look well to you?”
