She dropped her head on his shoulder. "If you want to play the gentleman." She paused. "I'm not actually admitting defeat but… It'll be really nice to take these damn shoes off."

he only smiled sweetly, placing a light kiss on her hairline.

when they reached her place, he let her unlock the door before pulling it open for her. "goodnight, love. see you around?"

group

She nodded and placed a kiss to his cheek, lingering for just a second before pulling back. "See you 'round, amore."

(when do you want to timeskip to)

group

(Hmm, maybe in two days? She's on a job and the Huntress is now the hunted because she got a little too cocky?)

(yeah how would nik come in? she flees to his hideout?)

group

(Yeah, or happens to fly by and sees him)

(nice. will you start?)

group

(Sure)

Shit shit shit shit!
Tessa flew down the street, legs burning as she outran a pack of rottweilers. She was brave, but she wasn't stupid.
Most of the time…

Now was probably not one of those times…

nik was just pulling himself off the ladder into the open when he heard loud barking and heavy footsteps. oh no.
he jogged towards the sounds, eventually seeing someone fleeing from a pack of dogs, just as he predicted. but that hair…

"tessa?"

he bolted for a concrete pole holding up a low-hanging ledge, practically throwing himself up it and leaning down as tess passed, hand extended. "tess, it's me! grab my hand, just trust me!"

group

Without a second thought, she reached out and clasped hands with Nik. Oh my fucking God…!

he heaved, throwing all of his strength into lifting her onto the ledge. after a minute he succeeded, pulling her up and letting her find her balance while holding onto her hands.
"you okay? why're you gettin chased down?"

group

"Because I got too cocky and overestimated my ability to sneak past a whole kennel of guard dogs to get into a secret laboratory that belonged to one of the mayor's associates, " she muttered dejectedly.

"that's alright. we all miscalculate sometimes." he offered, half of his mouth quirking into a small smile.

group

She returned his half smile with one of her own. "I'm just glad you were here to save my ass."

"thats what fr-" he cut himself off, looking slightly distressed. "that's what i'm for." he amended, smile never leaving his face.

group

She raised a brow catching the amendment. "Yeah. Thanks. Are you okay?"

"why wouldn't i be?" he chirped, perhaps a little too enthusiastically.
changing the subject swiftly, he added "so, is it just the dogs chasing you?"

group

She didn't buy it, but she turned to look at the dogs now searching the street for her. "Yeah. I, thankfully, got away before getting shot, and the dude probably figured a pack of bloodthirsty guard dogs would be sufficient."

"he thought wrong then, didn't he?" he teased, peering down at the dogs. "another successful escape by famed theresa hunt."

group

"Only after I nearly lost my limbs," she pointed out.

"you escaped in the end, though. the end result is all that really matters when it comes to what we do." he looked up at the sky.
"we have different jobs, but the requirements are mostly the same. get in, get out, if the end result is pretty then nothing that happened in-between matters. unless it permanently fucks you up."

group

She furrowed her brows, getting an odd vibe from him. "I guess–I can at least relate." She studied him closely, eyes narrowed slightly in suspicion.

"i see you getting suspicious. i'm in a mood today, i'm sorry." he gave another faint smile.

group

She nodded, stuffing her hands in her ratty jean jacket. "I get it. We all get in moods. Anything you wanna talk about?"

person_off

"nothin in particular. thank you for being concerned, love." he sighed, popping his neck and leaning back on his hands.

group

She shrugged and perched on the fence, dangling one leg off of it. She silently watched the bustle of the city go on below.

he sat silently with her, eventually leaning on her ever-so-slightly.

after a while, he looked down.
"they've lost the scent. got any more jobs to do?"

group

"I technically have to finish that one, but I'm gonna give it to Diego because he claimed it wouldn't be that hard. Other than that, there are two assassination contracts that I need to look into."
