Cam stood up and pushed their chair in crisply, done with her meal. They bit their tongue and left without a word to Lee. With the way that the serum affected them, anything that fell out of their mouth right now would likely get them and their siblings in even more trouble. Cam tried to focus on their breathing instead of the anger welling up inside of them, but it wasn't working particularly well.
The idea that Lee didn't treat the kids well had stemmed from Cam's interaction with their friend Silas's family a few years back. The way that Mr. Wilde–who had insisted that they just call him Will, but old habits die hard–had treated his sons and themself was so much different then Lee. Something was wrong, and it wasn't with Will, but Cam didn't want to bring it up with Lee. What if she banned them from seeing Silas and their other friends?
Seething, Cam clenched their fists and kept quiet. This wouldn't go on for much longer. They'd make sure of it, one way or another, for themself and for their siblings.
