"Right back at you," he responded. He chucked his empty ice cream container at her head.

@CWPoofToxicRush

"Ow!" She said, chucking the container back at him.

@WriteOutofTime

He deflected it partially with his arm. "I'm getting better at blocking your attacks."

@CWPoofToxicRush

"Screw you and screw your stupidly good reflexes!" She said dramatically.

@WriteOutofTime

August started to respond, but a loud clap of thunder interrupted him. The lights flickered and then went out. "Oh, shit."

@CWPoofToxicRush

"That's weird…" She muttered. "Hang on- hand me that flashlight on the desk?- I'll go check the fuse."

@WriteOutofTime

He felt around for the flashlight, knocking several things off her desk. "Found it."

@CWPoofToxicRush

She took the flashlight, flicking it on. "I'll be right back." She said, walking down to the basement.

((Yo what if she got abducted?))

@WriteOutofTime

(i like the idea but maybe she should get abducted once the party ends? that way the 'new neighbors' could be aliens or something)

"Wait, wait I want to come," August said, hurrying after her. "I fucking hate the dark."

@CWPoofToxicRush

"Fine." She said. "Sure you can handle the basement though? It creeps me out in daylight, and I live here."

@WriteOutofTime

He shrugged. "At least there will be two of us."

@CWPoofToxicRush

"…Fair point." She said, trying to pretend like this didn't feel like a Scooby Doo episode.

@WriteOutofTime

He kept walking, trailing behind her as he rambled, "It's not the dark that scares me. When the power goes out everything's quite. 21st century living has us accustomed to the hum of electronics, but with the power out, it's unnervingly silent. All I can hear is my breathing and my thoughts and that's it."

@CWPoofToxicRush

She hummed softly, nodding. "Yeah, man, I get it."

@WriteOutofTime

"I guess I'm too reliant on technology," he admitted with a wry smile at the flashlight. "A first world tragedy."

@CWPoofToxicRush

"Yep." She said absently, opening the basement door and starting down the stairs.

@WriteOutofTime

The stairs were long and oddly spaced out. August felt like he was stepping too far down on each step. The staircase itself was narrow and the walls were an old dingy white. His mouth twisted. "Lovely place."

@CWPoofToxicRush

"I know, it's great?" She said sarcastically.

@WriteOutofTime

They reached the bottom of the stairs. In the dark August couldn't make out much of the rest of the room, although he did see that the walls were the same washed out color. "How old is this house?"

@CWPoofToxicRush

"Really fucking old. Ya know, I found my guitar down here when we moved in." She said, heading to the fuse box.

@WriteOutofTime

"I'm shocked you didn't think it was haunted," August said. "It's ugly as hell."

@CWPoofToxicRush

"Excuse me, my guitar is beautiful. Though I wouldn't be surprised if it was. Some weird shit has happened with that thing." She said, fiddling with the switches. "Shit, I think the power is just knocked out. Good thing you finished that ice cream."

@WriteOutofTime

"Damn it," August sighed. "I wonder if the power's out at the party my parents went to."

@CWPoofToxicRush

"If it is, we can pretend you fell asleep before my mom got home so you don't have to deal with her giving you shit about not going if you want." She offered, turning around. "Now let's please get the fuck out of here? I think I saw a spider."

@WriteOutofTime

"I agree," he said with a grimace. "Spiders don't bother me but I'm just not a fan of this room. At all. Do you come down here often?"

@CWPoofToxicRush

"Nope." She said, making a beeline for the stairs.

@WriteOutofTime

August hurried after her, not pausing to look back.

@CWPoofToxicRush

She got the top, grinning. "Whoo!"

@WriteOutofTime

"I honestly didn't know you had a dungeon in your house," he remarked.

@CWPoofToxicRush

"There's a reason we don't go down there." She said, shaking his head. "Come on, lets get back to my room."
