(honestly? i kind of wanted them to run into each other at the grocery store. super mundane, but i want alex to meet one or two of danny’s “siblings”)
I’m really craving something supernatural huh // OxO // CLOSED!
(Ooh sounds fun!! I have scene planned for like…way way fricking later, involving Alex's ex and stuff. Just warning you lmao)
(alright, thanks for the heads up! should i take the ts?)
(Np! Yes please)
(ok!! also, grocery stores are like.. my favorite way of just adding the weirdest most unnerving shit to a world. hopefully i can weasel that in here)
Danny held one child’s hand, the other one perched on his shoulders. They had just arrived to the grocery store, a short sticky-note list in a child’s hand. “What’s the first thing on there, Bela?” He looked down at the child whose hand he was holding as he picked up a small hand basket.
“Uhh- apples! Green!” Bela yipped, tugging the tiny group into the produce section.
(lmaooo alright!)
Alex was at the store to pick up some food. He was staying in his old apartment, which his parents actually owned. So he needed groceries, since he didn't know how long he'd be staying in town.
A light overheard flickered and buzzed, a small mass scuttling under and over the yellowing plastic shell that surrounded it.
“I don’t get why they keep sending us for all these fruits ‘n veggies ‘n shi- stuff. Nothin’ here’s ever any good.” Danny huffed, turning over a browning apple in his fingers. “Whaddya think, Kit, are any’a these worth getting?” He tilted his head upwards, tapping the young werewolf on his shoulders.
Alex turned a corner, and spotted Danny. He raised his eyebrows a little bit at the sight of the werewolf surrounded by a bunch of children. He smiled a little bit.
The young werewolf on Danny’s shoulder shook his head.
“No? Well, alrighty then. Bela, just remind me ‘fore we get home that I have to tell Abe the apples were.. gone.” Danny paused, laughing. “Actually, maybe we just tell him that they weren’t worth the money, as per usual.. whaddya see next on the list?”
“Meat!” Bela yapped, punching her small fists into the air.
“Jesus, you’re bloodthirsty. Does it say what kind?” Danny peered down at the list, head cocked.
“No!” Bela wiggled a bit as she spoke, nearly bumping into a passerby.
Alex kept going, enveloped in his own head again. I need to finish these next few articles, and then I'm freed up for that short story competition I was going to enter… He took a deep breath.
“I need more direction than that, good god. Assuming this is just a normal grocery trip, so we need stuff we can just eat raw.. what do you guys like?” Danny led them towards the meat section, trying to remember what cuts everyone liked.
“Why can’t we just go get it ourselves?” Bela tugged on Danny’s hand, her head cocked like a puppy’s.
“Uhh- ‘cause that’s illegal for some reason, ‘n the pack doesn’t exactly have the best reputation. Plus the cops here are somehow corrupt enough to take money from people hunting down werewolves, but not werewolves just trying to eat without- actually, I’ll save this talk for when you’re older.” Danny sighed, a snarl edging into his voice. “Lemme break it down for ya, Bela- it’s against the law.”
Bela blinked at Danny’s explanation, unsure of what exactly he had said. “Oh. Okay.”
Danny picked up a few various cuts of meat (and a rib), nodding silently to the butcher. “Anything else?”
(When did you want Danny to run into Alex?)
Alex kept moving, grabbing food. Mostly junk food, if he was honest, but hey, he ate what he wanted to. He had a fast metabolism, so it didn't really matter.
(now is fine!)
Bela handed Danny the list, keeping her other hand firmly latched to his own.
“Oh, I’m the one carrying the list now? Got it, got it. Maybe you’ll just be the one carrying the groceries home.” Danny teased, trying to make sure Kit didn’t fall off of his shoulders. “Let’s see.. jesus, for the number of stuff we can actually eat, Abe put a lot of junk food on here.” He rolled his eyes, walking them to the correct aisle.
(okay!)
Alex looked up as he heard Danny's voice, and then spotted the taller male come into the aisle. He waved a little. "Hey Danny." he greeted.
“Oh- hey, Alex!” Danny grinned, about to wave before realizing how full his hands were. “How’s your day goin’ so far?”
Alex shrugged. "Fine, I guess. I have to restock my food. Which means like…everything." he laughed a little bit. He studied the kids for a moment, before his eyes returned to Danny.
“Oh, yeah- man, I forgot you just got back into town.” Danny paused for a bit, watching Alex study the kids. “Right! These are my.. siblings? That’s the best way to put it. This little friend here is Bela, and the one on my shoulders is Kit.” He grinned, clearly proud of his family.
Alex smiled a little. "Well, it's nice to meet them. And yeah, I've been subsisting on like… McDonald's, because I haven't been able to go shopping until today."
“Jesus, that’s sad. I’d say you could drop by one night if you need to eat a solid meal, but somethin’ tells me you don’t eat like a werewolf.” Danny laughed, the grocery basket swaying by his side.
Alex shook his head. "Nah. I'm human, so no." He smiled a little bit. "I appreciate the almost offer, though."
“Yeah, it’s no problem!” Danny paused for a moment as Bela tugged on his wrist. He sighed, scooping her up and resting her on his hip. “I’m just gonna give you a warning now, the produce section here is absolute garbage. Don’t even bother with it.”
Alex looked at Bela with a faint smile, then returned his attention to Danny. "Mm. Yeah, that's what my mom said." he laughed a little bit. "There's another place I'll go next for fresh stuff."
“Your mom’s smart, but here’s what I’m gonna tell ya- grocery stores like this are great for most foods, but it’s the tiny little ones with the best produce. There’s a little hispanic grocery store just down the street from our apartment, and let me tell ya, I didn’t even know fruits could be that good.” Danny set down his basket for a moment, picking a restless Kit from off his shoulders and setting him down.
Alex nodded, and chuckled softly. "I'll keep that in mind, thanks." he replied, looking at Danny with a light smile. "I mean…I only really eat apples and pears and strawberries, but thanks."
“I.. have never had any of those before. Well, except for apples, but I think they’re kinda nasty..” Danny trailed off, kicking at the aged linoleum floors with his heel.
Alex shrugged a little bit. "Ripe pears are sweet, and strawberries are citrus and yummy." he studied Danny for a moment. "Oh wait, is this the…werewolf thing?"
“Is what the werewolf thing?” Danny cocked his head, suddenly holding his siblings in a manner that could be seen as somewhat defensive.
Alex bit his lip, holding up his hands. "No no no, I-I didn't mean that as a bad thing, I'm just an idiot!" he said quickly, recognizing the mood shift. "I just meant…not having had pears and strawberries, that's all. I don't know that much about…werewolves and their eating habits and stuff. I didn't mean to offend you, I swear."
Danny relaxed slightly, nodding. “Oh- yeah, right. No, yeah, I should the the one apologizing, sorry about that. Just a little.. you know. But.. uh, yeah, it kinda is a natural eating thing. Like— technically we’re supposed to be pure carnivores, and I try to stick to that, ‘cause our diets are usually hella tight compared to humans. I think it’s kinda like.. uh- dogs? I hate to say that, but we share a lot of the same stuff.” He shrugged, letting Kit play with his hand, trying his best not to drop the basket.
Alex nodded. "Oh, okay okay okay. That makes sense." then his eyes widened. "Wait, does that mean that chocolate would poison you? Because that would be really depressing." he looked at Danny, raising his eyebrows a little bit. He caught the way Danny was struggling. "You want some help? With the basket and stuff?"
