Icarus faked his death.
Crawled onto the shore, skin
Sparkling gold and reddened
And Apollo said,
"your dad won't find us here."

Icarus and Daedalus made their escape from King Minos on wings of wax and feathers. Icarus, daring the Fates, flew too close to the sun. He burned. His wings melted and he drowned.

We all know this story. We are all told it, a caution not to fly too high. Not to dream too big.

But what if that wasn't what happened?

Daedalus was not a kind father. He was brilliant and he was daring, but he was not kind. Perhaps he could have been, had he not been so embittered from the years in Minos' labyrinth. He took out the brunt of his anger on his son.

The sun God watched and saw the pain of the mortal boy. Saw his beauty, too. Saw a brilliant mind cast in shadows by his father.

And Apollo visited in secret, assisted by his sister and Poseidon.

And something happened that the god of prophecy had not foreseen.

He fell in love with this brilliant, shadowed boy. This boy who dreamed of flying. And Icarus loved him too.

And when Icarus and Daedalus escaped, Icarus faked his death.

Poseidon helped. Apollo met the boy he had grown to love at the shore of the sea.

Basically, this is our plotline. A retelling of the ancient Greek myth of Icarus and Daedalus. I will be Icarus, you will be Apollo. I want sort of a slow burn romance between the two? Where they both are pining after each other, but think the other couldn't possibly return their feelings. So basically, lots of angsty goodness, along with history and adventure and gods.

Rules:

  • All of andrew (Our Supreme Lord and Overseer)'s rules apply
  • This will probably be very dark in some places, so mature RPers only please
  • Descriptive, four sentence minimum
  • I don't ask you to have a firm grasp of the mythology, because I'll be taking a lot of creative liberties with it anyways. I just ask that you be familiar with it, especially with Apollo
  • I reserve the right to say no
@Simon-Says

(Hi, could I join?)

@ElderGod-Icefire

(hey! Uhm…sure! I'll post Icarus in a minute)

@ElderGod-Icefire
@Simon-Says

(Oh, thanks! Is there a specific way you want Apollo to be played?)

@ElderGod-Icefire

(np! Uhm…god. lmao. I do, but i don't. Like…he's not a stalker. Maybe just…gentle and kind and protective, and a little afraid to love again because all his other relationships have ended in disaster? Sorta like that?)

@Simon-Says

(Alright, sounds good! I'll try to make a character for him as soon as possible, but I have a lot of work to do today, so it might take me a bit)

@ElderGod-Icefire

(alright! And you don't have to do what I did, you can just type up a template :) )

@Simon-Says

(I'm almost done with the character! Sorry it's taking me so long; I have an ungodly amount of homework.)

@ElderGod-Icefire

(alright! Don't worry about it lol)

@Simon-Says

(This is the character: Apollo I hope this works, please let me know if not!)

@ElderGod-Icefire

(ayyy I love him!!)

@Simon-Says

(Coolio, thanks!)

@ElderGod-Icefire

(np! Shall I post a starter now?)

@Simon-Says

(Sounds good!)

@ElderGod-Icefire

(kk)

Icarus looked down at the sketchbook layed out on his lap. He frowned a little, sketching the shape of feathers on birds wings. He looked up at the sky, at the albatross overhead. He wished he could be up there, even for a second. To fly, now that would be an adventure. It would be new and exciting. Rather than down here in the labyrinth, where the walls were far taller than his head, and he could see nothing by brick walls and the blue sky.

@Simon-Says

(Okay so where am I starting with Apollo?)

@ElderGod-Icefire

(uhm…I was thinking maybe he's been watching Icarus on and off for a while, and decides to finally reveal himself?? Idk lmao)

@Simon-Says

(Ok, I'll just come up with something like that lol)
Apollo took several deep breaths. Today was the day. He couldn't watch from several thousand feet up any longer. With another deep breath, he jumped from the cloud he was sitting on (because, little known fact, Apollo can do that now. Magic, you know) and floated down gently near the boy. As soon as his feet touched the ground, the panic started to set in. This was an incredibly bad idea. He brushed off the thought and leaned against a wall. "Hello," he said softly.
(Yup that's a thing that's what we're going with)

@ElderGod-Icefire

Icarus whirled around, eyes widening as he took in this…golden person. "I uhm…" He stammered for a moment, nearly dropping his sketchbook. "Who are you? How did you get in here?" He asked curiously, approaching the other male and looking at him with a faint smile on his face. "I don't…how did you get here?"

@Simon-Says

Apollo smiled softly. "Terribly sorry, this was rude of me. I just - I couldn't help but notice that you seem to be stuck in this place. A dreadful situation, really. Ah, I'm Apollo, by the way," he offered his hand for the boy to shake.

@ElderGod-Icefire

Icarus blinked, and shook Apollo's hand cautiously. "Apollo…the…God?" He said slowly, raising his eyebrows curiously. Icarus was about five inches shorter than Apollo, with bright golden eyes. There was a red mark on his left cheek that was shaped rather distinctly like a palm. Like he had been slapped for some reason or other.

@Simon-Says

"Ah, well, yes, but that's - " Apollo cursed himself. He couldn't seem to find the proper words now that he actually needed them. "What's happened to your face? Not that - that's not what I meant - I mean, have you been hurt? Because I could probably help with that."

@ElderGod-Icefire

Icarus blinked. "I…displeased my father. I'll be fine, though." He gave Apollo a bright, quick smile, searching around for his sketchbook and closing it up again. "Thank you."

@Simon-Says

Apollo nodded in understanding. "My father generally kills people who displease him." He looked around the room for a few seconds before speaking again. "Do you have a plan of escape yet?"

@ElderGod-Icefire

Icarus shook his head. "My father is working on that, but he isn't done yet." He replied slowly. "And if I ask, he gets angry." They were in a chamber of the labyrinth, though not in the center. He held the sketchbook to his chest, looking up at Apollo. His dark hair fell to about the middle of his neck in loose curls.

@Simon-Says

Apollo tapped his foot thoughtfully. "He seems like an angry man. I could help, if you want," he offered, looking up to meet Icarus's eyes.

@ElderGod-Icefire

Icarus hesitated. "Help with what, exactly?" he asked slowly. He was curious as to what a god was doing here, but it would be rude to ask. Gods had been known to curse or kill for less. He swallowed, running a hand through his curls. His eyes flicked away from Apollo for a moment, then back.

@Simon-Says

"With getting out of here," Apollo answered calmly. "I might be able to assist with some planning, if you need it," he suggested, running a hand through his hair.

@ElderGod-Icefire

Icarus shook his head. "Ah…I don't know." He replied. He glanced down the passageway. "You'd have to talk to my father about that." He ran a hand through his hair anxiously.
