MARINA: if you had to date someone in our grade for a long period of time, who would it be?

MERCUTIO: I have no idea what that’s like. I guess I don’t really know.

MARINA: pick a girl

MERCUTIO: You?

I froze, staring wide-eyed at my screen. What on earth….??? My stupid heart skipped another beat.

MARINA: ???

MERCUTIO: I don’t know. It’s all hypothetical right?

MARINA: ….there are fifty girls in our grade alone. thirty-five or so have no ties whatsoever to the Capulets. i have a direc t tie, and constantly belittle and insult you to make you feel inferior.. what happened to Belle?

I was falling back on jokes and snide comments as a defence mechanism, and we both knew it.

MERCUTIO: It’s all supposed to make you feel good right? Sex, alcohol, etc. Why tf don’t I ever feel good?

I inhaled sharply. Why was he doing this again? Why was he pouring out his innermost turmoils to me, or all people?

MARINA: that shit doesnt have to make you feel good. as for sex, maybe you’re tired of being used. idk enough about situation, but neither of those has to be something you enjoy. I know that I don’t enjoy the first..

MERCUTIO: I think I’m just broken.

I sighed quietly, staring up at the ceiling. I was going to regret this so much tomorrow.

MARINA: not liking sex and alcohol doesn’t make you broken

I didn’t know which of us I was trying to convince anymore… With each passing second, I lost a piece of my resolve, my will to stay strong and detached around him.
