Awesome! After we get our templates up we will start. :)

@thelogicofkings

ok! ill work on mine now

@thelogicofkings

Name: Aaron Stratius
Race: Human
Age: 22
Gender: Male
Appearance: His hair is dark and curly, reaching the nape of his neck. It's usually very messy, but he only fixes it for formal occasions. His eyes are dark brown as well, but near the pupil the brown is a bit reddish. His skin is relatively pale, as he spends a lot of time inside. He's well dressed due to his station in society, which is something he takes pride in. He stands at 6'0.
Personality: Aaron likes to think he's tough, a force to be reckoned with. That's quite true most of the time as he is definitely menacing at first glance. This toughness is a facade more than anything. Once someone gets past his wall, he's softer. When he gives his heart to someone or something, he truly becomes invested. He is extremely loyal to the select few he chooses. Aaron also has a hard time unlearning things he had thought as fact previously. He does, however, love adventures and action.
Magic and/or talents specific to their race (If any): N/A
Background: He was born into the royal family and was raised to be a king. He is skilled in hand to hand combat, for instance, due to training. His father was normally business with some political matter or another, so he has a very close relationship with his mother and advisers. Due to feeling trapped by his title, he has taken up sailing and has been on a couple short excursions with his crew. It definitely feels liberating to be out of the castle.

(hope this was okay! i was unsure what kind of dynamic to use)

Name: Nami

Race: Mer

Age: 20

Gender: Female

Appearance:
Mer form - Nami has silver hair that has streaks of all different shades of grey within it. Her features are sharp and menacing (high cheek bones, straight pert nose, sharp jaw) until you get to her eyes, which are tilted up at the corners, wide, doll like, and deep midnight blue. Her lips are full and pretty but they hide a mouth full of graceful yet deadly fangs. Her 'human' portion of her body is pale with soft violet undertones. There are scales sparsely on the sides of her neck, the tips of her shoulders, her belly button and her hands. Her fingers are slightly webbed. Her tail is long and graceful, starting just under her belly button in a deep, deep purple and ombreing out to a soft grey at her fins.

Human form - Nami still has silver hair, but the more time she spends out in the sun the more it darkens to black. Her eyes are still deep blue as well. She's quite small and delicate looking, but she is all muscle. Her sharp Mer features are softened, but instead of looking more doll like she looks a little wild and mischievous. Nami is also still pretty pale, but tans quickly in the sun. She has more asian like features.

Personality: Nami is very intelligent and curious, which frequently gets her into trouble with her people. She loves to explore and learn new things. She's funny and kind, but very quick to lose her temper if prodded. Nami is not shy in the least and doesn't really understand personal space. Having a bit of a bizarre sense of humor, Nami can be sarcastic and sassy as well. It is hard to make her sad or in a bad mood.

Magic and/or talents specific to their race (If any): Mer are much stronger than humans (no matter the form), and can do some minor water magic that they use for healing and fighting. Nami is really good at combat with spears.

Background: Nami is the youngest niece of the King, and therefore forgotten most of the time, so she had to learn how to entertain herself from a young age. The King loved his mischievous little niece and gifted her with a library where she was able to learn and sate her curiosity. But it didn't last long as the more she read the more she wanted to experience for herself. Especially when it came to humans, who the Mer are forbidden to interact with. She would follow ships and watch the humans day and night, longing to know what it was like above the water. She was spotted several times which got her punished with her own people, but they couldn't hold her down for long. She would just sneak out to collect more items for her trove and mess around with the humans that she watched.

Other: Because she's never walked before, she does have to use a cane or lean on someone at first.

(7 hours later—– SORRY!)

The sea was angry today, Nami could feel it in the way the currents sliced through the deep water. Against her skin, it was like a thousand mini slaps. Pouty and forceful. She sighed as she floated carelessly through the ancient sunken ship that had become her new favorite hideout. It's old rotted wood giving the water around her a greenish hue. Haunting and terrible. She loved it.

Alas, the angry currents meant that it was certainly not a day for sailing. Nami knew if she swam to the surface the sea's surface would be choppy and dark, not a single boat in sight. The humans knew when to keep far when the sea was in one of her moods.

There would not be anyone to torment today. He smiled a bit to herself, thinking of the last human that almost had a heart attack when she popped out of the water to hand him a fish. Not a single soul to observe on those fancy new ships she had been seeing out lately. The ones that were as big and bright as clouds, with horns like thunder. She loved those the best simply because they teamed with life. The humans bustling around like tiny crabs on a reef.

Nami sighed once more, giving up on today's adventure. "Time to return to the palace." She muttered to the tiny colorful fish that had been following her around the sunken ship. Scooping up her bag and swimming out of the ship, she looked upward at the surface longingly. It only, if only…

@thelogicofkings

(don’t worry about it!!)

The sea surely was angry. A storm had suddenly rolled in, creating huge waves topped with sea foam. Aaron hadn’t predicted this. Who could, really? zIt seemed as though the heavy gray clouds came from nowhere, dragging chaos along with them. And Aaron felt the full effect of it.

His boat, which was supposed to be made out of prime materials, creaked and screamed as it rocked with the waves at the surface. Wind whipped the sails in every which way, and rain came down in sheets, soaking him and his men to their core. Barely anyone could keep their hold on the deck. It was a nightmare.

Aaron himself was trying to call orders over the noise of everything. Some heard and responded, the rest were either panicking or trying their damndest to keep the ship afloat themselves. The sails nearly came off the posts. The boat came close to capsizing multiple times. Nothing about this was easy.

A storm of this velocity hadn’t even crossed the mind of the prince before the voyage. He had felt particularly restrained by the politics and pleasantries and plastered on smiles of the castle. So, he impulsively called his crew and set out for a day trip on the ocean. He found solace out here most of the time.

Then, the unthinkable happened. The ship capsized, throwing Aaron and the rest of his company overboard into the wine dark sea. The ship was broken into pieces. Aaron tried his best to swim, save some of his shipmates, but he couldn’t. He just couldn’t. The ocean was too dark. His view was obscured by… everything. He was sinking, slowly, slowly.

Nami decided on a whim to swim closer to the surface on her way home. She enjoyed the rocking of the waves, as she was strong enough not to get tossed by the storm that was raging above. Nami flicked her powerful tail, propelling herself through the waving sea. Usually this would lull her into a more relaxed state, but today there was something terribly off. This storm was not just a storm, but an angry hurricane. It was a bad one, the water up here was almost black and littered with….ship parts?

The young mermaid blinked in surprise, looking all around her to the sinking plastic and wood debris. Someone had been sailing in this? Moving through the destruction curiously and pushing the bigger pieces out of the way of fish, Nami became more and more concerned. There was a lot of debris, meaning it was a big ship…which meant there should have been a rather large crew…

Swimming with more haste, Nami searched and searched, heart growing heavy as she couldn't find a single– There! She had been right; it had been a large crew, there were at least 20 men in the water, some struggling against the water pulling them down and others furiously kicking at the surface. Without thinking, she raced over to the closest man, caught him around his chest and pulled upward. Bursting from the surface, the air seared like fire in Nami's lungs, but she was able to find a large enough section of the ship that was still floating and tossed the man onto it. She dove once more, this time rescuing a lad that had been trapped in some nets.

Again and again Nami dove into the water, pulling each sailor up and out of the sea, despite the fact that her throat ached and her head swam with dizziness each time oxygen forced itself into her body. It was exhausting, but from what she could tell, Nami had saved them all. She sighed in relief sinking beneath the waves once more. She had made sure each of the sailors was secure enough to not fall back into the water once more. Nami huffed, not exactly sure why she had done such a thing. She counted the men, just to make sure she got them all, navy eyes flicking from one to the next.

She froze. Nineteen. Wasn't there…."Twenty. There were twenty men." Nami said quietly to herself, cursing with dread as she dove back into the water. "Where? Where are you?" She called desperately, looking all around. She didn't know why she though he may be able to answer, but it didn't hurt to try. A flash of white in her periphery, had Nami spinning off to the left. She cried softly in relief as she spotted the last sailor. A young man with dark, dark hair and fair skin. She scooped him up, fighting against her own exhaustion and the pull of the harsh hurricane waves to pull him to the surface.

There was a large portion of the deck still floating and Nami gently plopped the young man onto it, pulling herself up beside him. He wasn't breathing. She frantically pushed on his chest, as she had seen other humans do, but she wasn't sure if it was working, or really what it was supposed to do. "Dammit! Wake up, you!" She shook the boy hard, his head lolling. All the other men had survived, gasping once reaching the surface, Nami wasn't about to let this one die. Chewing on her lip, she prayed to the Sea that no one would find out what she was about to do. She leaned over the young man–He was quite handsome, wasn't he?– her hand hovering a couple inches above his and she pulled with her magic, summoning the water from within him to come to her. At first it was just a trickle, then a flood as her spell worked. The young man gasped, coughing and sputtering as Nami pulled away, flicking the water from his body back into the sea.

Nami moved away from him, deciding to hide behind a portion of wall, only her eyes peaking out to watch the handsome boy, instead of darting back into the sea like she should have. She was going to get into so much trouble.

@thelogicofkings

Aaron’s eyes flew open after another few moments of sputtering. Sea salt intruded on all of his senses. He tried to sputter to get the taste out of his mouth. Didn’t work. Where was he again? No time. Got to see how his crew is doing. Storm clouds still churned overhead, waves barely dying down.

His head turned to look around him. He barely had enough strength to prop himself up on the fragment of wood he was floating on. Most, if not all, were accounted for. ‘Thank you,’ he prayed, to any higher power that might be. Aaron didn’t know if he could handle the death of his friends on his conscience.

The gears in the prince’s head began to turn again. How did he get up here? He could have sworn he lost consciousness deep below the surface. And yet, here he was, above the water, lungs dry. He would figure that out later. His focus shifted to how he was supposed to get them home. He knew they were on their way home when disaster hit, but he wasn’t sure how far he was away. The storm had taken up most of his attention. Tears of frustration welled in his eyes, blurring his vision. He just couldn’t believe he let this happen. Some of his men were awake, or coming into consciousness. A small weight lifted from his shoulders, but not a lot.

He eased his way over to his second in command, Eris. She was awake, but not moving. He shook her, and she responded after that. “We have to get out of here,” he shouted, panic clear in his tone. She sat up slowly, nodding. Others had already started paddling in the direction they hoped was home-bound. He followed, relying on his so called internal compass. It would be a struggle, Aaron knew, but they would make it home. They had to.

He was going to be in so much trouble with his father.

(sorry this is kinda short!!)

(Nah I wrote a mini novel. lol)

Nami watched the young man move with surprising speed despite having almost just drowned. She remained hidden though, her eyes barely peaking over the wood, her tail glimmering softly in the faint eerie light. He moved with such authority, she wondered if he was the captain. He was so young! Probably no older than herself, but determination and inner strength shined through his strong features. Nami couldn't take her eyes off of him.

The urge to assist the humans further was pounding with each beat of her heart. Something about this leader of theirs, that showed more concern for his crew than himself, struck her deeply. They certainly can't all be as bad as mother says… Nami chewed on her lip, debating. But it was only a few moments before she brushed her long hair out of her face and dove back into the water towards where she had last seen their life boat furiously trying to stay above the waves.

It wasn't so badly damaged that the humans couldn't use it, Nami thought as she swam around the bottom inspecting the boat large enough to fit the crew. "I've come this far." She muttered, scooping up the rope attached to the bow, allowing the boat to follow behind her as she moved back towards the crew. Once she got close enough, Nami let go, using her magic to move the boat closer to where the young leader would see it. She peaked up over the surface of the water, watching him move and continue to shout orders, guiding his team to safety.

@thelogicofkings

Aaron looked over his shoulder as another of his crew members pointed behind him. He couldn’t make out the words the other man was saying, but it must have been enough to warrant a sliver of his attention. His eyes met with the boat floating towards them. His brows furrowed. That certainly wasn’t there moments ago. A blessing from the heavens, maybe.

Without thinking on the topic any more, he called out to his crew. “Everyone get in the lifeboat!” On shaky arms and knees, with rain beating on his back and air searing its way into his lungs, he moved towards the smaller boat. It took lots of effort to get himself into it, and even more to slowly row it in the direction of his company. One by one, they hopped in, helping each other as they did so. He would have smiled at the teamwork of the cause had been different.

Out of the corner of his eye, Aaron spotted another pair of eyes just above the surface of the water. He shook it off as some hallucination, some byproduct of his close encounter with death. All of his men were accounted for. No one should still be in the water. What he needed to do now was ensure the safety of the people with him, bring them home.

They oriented themselves the best they could towards land. Hopefully their own. Aaron called out more orders in an attempt to get the rowers in sync. Within a few hours, he figured they would reach his kingdom with nothing more than trauma and bruises.

However, there was nothing like a shared experience such as this to up morale. His shipmates worked hard for hours, driving their ship forward. After a while, the rain had lightened, if only slightly. Through the fog he could see lights. A familiar landscape. Land! Finally. They still had a ways to go, but at least their goal was in sight.

As they approached his kingdom, he couldn’t genuinely shake the mysterious pair of eyes from his train of thought. The flash of dark blue had looked so… real. But that’s what hallucinations were like right? They seemed real, even if they weren’t. This time, he couldn’t just brush it off. He was certainly distracted.

(question: is this more modern than the little mermaid movie/book, or is it around the same time period?)

(That is an excellent question. Let's say a bit more modern than the move/book, but not crazy 21st century modern. Does that make sense? Like they have cars, but most people prefer horses and such still.)

Why am I still doing this? Nami thought to herself as she continued to follow the life boat back towards the shore. But no answer came to her. Instead she help guide the boat through safer waters, urging the sea with her magic to calm its waves. Saving this group a second time seemed like pushing her luck. She was already going to be in a world of trouble for being late to return to the palace, she really, really didn't need anyone finding out that she had saved an entire ship of humans. Nami's stomach knotted painfully, but she pushed forward, something in her gut guiding her on this bizarre path.

She peaked her head up over the surface again as a cheer went up among the sailors. Land! Nami huffed quietly in relief. They would all be safe now. Just a few more minutes and then she can go back to pretending that this never happened. Nami flicked her tail, propelling herself through the water to catch up to the boat once more. She remained half out of the water though, curious about the pale white mist that hug in the air and seemed to cling to her hair and flesh.

Distracted by the odd sight, she came up beside the boat and placed her hand upon the stern, using her strength to push the small boat faster. She's never been this close to the shore before, and Nami was fascinated by all the flickering lights. What are those? Is it….fire? Oh to see it with her own eyes! Her curiosity was getting the better of her, but her heart yearned to leap out of the water and explore. All she really wanted was to learn.

Continuing to be enamored by the sight, Nami smiled, looking all around her as they got closer to the shore and she could see more and more of what it was like to be human. What is all of–? A pair of brown eyes invaded her vision and she froze. She was still half out of the water wasn't she? Dread pooled through her entire body, but she couldn't move away. Didn't want to move away. The young captain was staring at her shocked, his lips parted ever so slightly. He was beautiful. More beautiful than the lights flickering on the shore. Or the mist that swirled all around them. Nami stared.

And stared.

And stared.

@thelogicofkings

(got it! thanks so much)

Sprits were high on the boat. Many cheered and chatted as they rowed on, much faster than their captain expected. Aaron watched as more and more of the light reflected off the water before dissipating in the ripples of the raindrops. Home again. He longed to be in the castle again, sitting by the fire and drinking soothing alcohol. The constraints the building put on him were trivial now, after the night he and the others had endured. Even if he may never be able to go out on a voyage again.

His gaze moved from the water, to his friends, and back to the water. His eyes flickered over to the back of his ship when they sensed movement there. He expected it to be the sea foaming, or bubbles from some creature on the sea floor. Instead, he was met with the same deep blue eyes he had been thinking about for the past hour. This time, a whole face accompanied them, along with a pale body scattered with scales. Aaron’s mind went blank. Hallucination… Vision… had to be. He didn’t ask anyone else to confirm the sight, he just gawked.

A woman. A beautiful woman, at that. Her features were sharp. Maybe it was the lighting, but she had gray hair. Even that glistened in the distant light. The prince had met many women in his life before, proposed to him as potential wives. Some sparked his interest, sure, but never like this. Perhaps it was the intrigue surrounding the situation, the mystery. Was she real? God, he hoped so.

“Aaron, you alright there, kid?” An older man asked him, clapping his hand on his shoulder. Aaron brushed it off with a small smile and a nod. The rowers kept rowing. His heart kept pounding. They reached land, eventually. People crowded around him. His eyes stuck to the ocean. Who was she? Why did she have… scales? He was put onto a horse and led into the castle, into the warmth. His heart stayed out at sea, no different than usual.

Nami wasn't able to follow the little boat–and the young captain– all the way to shore, but gods she wished that she could have. She wanted nothing more then to step– yes, step– out of the briny sea and follow that cheering crowd into the palace on the cliff overlooking the sea. Nami would have followed that young captain anywhere, if only he kept looking at her as he was just moments before he vanished from her sight. Like she was a dream, a dream too good and lovely to be real. It had made her feel warm from her chest all the way down to her fin tips.

The mermaid sat on a jagged black rock a few hundred feet from the shore, out of sight of the humans, but nonetheless watching the castle and the people bustling about long after the sun started it's descent. Curious about their lives on land. Nami was unable to look away from the sight. Unable to stop hoping that she would see that young captain again. The sea had calmed, the waves lapping almost playfully at her tail as she rested. Perhaps with the calm sea, the captain would return with a new ship and Nami would be able to continue to watch him, maybe play a few tricks on him. She smiled as she looked up at the castle, joy bubbling in her chest at the thought.

As the moon rose up over the horizon, Nami let that bubbling joy burst from her in song. Sweet and quiet at first, travelling over the still waters in soft lulls. The humans along the shore quieting at the sound, looking around to try to find the source of the song. Knowing that they couldn't see her perching on the rock, Nami let the song crescendo, the notes louder, more alluring, more filled with her longing for the world before her. She hoped that the young captain could hear her.

A soft promise that she would never forget him.

Aaron couldn’t get the figure out of his head, no matter how hard he tried. He might have been in the court, but his mind drifted elsewhere. His hearing was still a bit shot due to the whipping wind and rain. Despite being in the warm castle once again, his fingertips were still freezing. His head was pounding. In all honesty, he just wanted sleep. Sleep sounded so nice. Much nicer than being surrounded by hovering advisors and bright lights.

So, the first chance he got, he left. Aaron quickly made it through the maze of hallways he came to know by heart. His heart soared at the sight of the doors leading to his chambers, grateful to be back in the stability of his home. Everything looked more or less the same; he had only been gone two or three days. He noticed some things were out of place and attributed it to the busybody maids that seemed to like fixing up the small details around the palace. He didn’t mind. If anything, it helped get his mother off his back for being so messy, and he wasn’t complaining about that.

Aaron immediately went to the windows in his room and opened most of them, letting the sea air waft in. The salty aroma comforted him as it always had. He could see the moon reflecting off the water, and a small smile spread across his face. His ears picked up a faint melody, a woman’s voice. It seemed far out at sea. Could it be…? The song became louder as it went on, and he felt more and more drawn to it. He stood with his hands on the window frame, barely leaning out. He couldn’t see her, but there was no doubt in his mind that it was the… mermaid he saw that day.

All that night, Aaron stayed in bed, staring up at the ceiling, and hoping to hear the song once again. He reflected on the events of that day. It was his first real issue with his ship. His previous voyages had been relatively problem free. And this time, he knocked on death’s door. It truly gave him a new perspective. And a new fear.

Aaron stayed in this pensive state for most of the night, barely getting any sleep. He watched the sun rise and the sky grow into a hazy pink color. Almost subconsciously, he found himself sneaking out of the castle and sitting on a small, closed off beach. He had found it a few years back, when he had worked himself up into an anger after a talk with his father. It comforted him to be by the sea in such a private way.

He sat a bit back from the surf, just looking out at the horizon. So much had happened in the past twenty-four hours. The familiar sounds and feelings helped him decompress and relax. But he would be lying if he didn’t admit that he hoped to see something, anything, that confirmed what he saw was not an illusion. The cool air chilled him in his light clothes, but mind was elsewhere.
