They had flown for as long as their energy had allowed them to, and now that daybreak was approaching it was time to rest. Somehow they had lost the men after them, and had come to be in a small part of town where normal human crime rates were high.
Soren slumped down against a mossy brick wall of a back alley, barely being able to sit up properly. His wings ached, his core ached from excessive power usage, and all he wanted to do was sleep. But he needed to make sure Arthur was okay first.
"How are you feeling?" he asked, though he already knew the answer.

"Tired, scared, sore." answered Arthur quietly, "You?" he looked over at the other, knowing it was a long flight for someone so inexperienced, his own wings and core aching from the long flight as he slumped against the alley wall opposite the other. He sighed, "We'll have to keep going early tomorrow… though we can probably take the ground route rather than flying."

"Yeah I'm fine." Soren lied with the brightest smile he could muster. He didn't want Arthur worrying about him, not right now. He stared at the black that threatened to consume his entire hand; it looked like an explosion of ink crawling from his fingertips upwards. His shadow looked at him from across the way, both proud and saddened by what Soren had become.
It was only a matter of time, I never thought it would be so soon…
So many things circled around in Soren's mind, a lot of it was regarding the past couple of days and all the fighting they'd had to do, but none of it was what he wanted to be thinking about. "You should get some sleep, I'll keep watch."

Arthur shook his head. "Not after that." he said softly. "I'll keep watch okay?" he sighed, getting up and pacing, not bothering to hide his wings as he peeked out of the alleyway. "It should be safe here, at least for the night. But just in case I'll try and cast an illusion so no one sees us. He summoned a whisp of chaos, twisting it then casting it over his wings, making them disappear, though they were still there.

"Please." Soren sighed, his eyes betraying no emotion. "I would feel better knowing that you were well rested."
While Soren himself wanted nothing more than to sleep and replenish his energy, he wanted to be nice to Arthur for as long as he was able to. Part of being now a full demon meant that kindness was going to become a stranger to him eventually. It just wasn't in their blood to be nice. He wanted to keep that part of him that was human, even if it was lost forever… He wouldn't let his species define who he was as a person, but it wouldn't be that easy considering the situation they were in.

Arthur shook his head, moving to the other to cast the same spell, making him look human to everyone but him. "Don't worry about it" he said softly. "I already know I won't sleep, not after everything that's happened today." He sighed, slumping against the wall next to him. "I already know I'll get nightmares the instant I fall asleep, and then I'll be worse off than if I hadn't slept." He sighed again, practicing manipulating a whisp of chaos around his fingers. "I'll be fine. You sleep."

But Soren couldn't sleep. While his body wanted it in order to regenerate his lost energy, his mind just wouldn't calm down enough to allow him the luxury of rest. Besides, now that his horns, wings and tail were permanent, sleeping was going to be a lot more uncomfortable that it used to be. If only he could just sleep upside down, then he wouldn't have to worry about hurting his new features any more than they already ached. "If you're staying awake, I would at least like to keep you company so you don't fall into the dark pit of your own imagination."

Arthur nodded, "I would tell you otherwise, but I'm not gonna lie on that one." he said softly, "But if you can, you really should get some rest." he sighed, getting up to pace around the alleyway quietly, before sitting back down next to Soren and summoning his aura. Carfully he cast an enchantment, summoning th magical version of a holographic map.

"So which way do we have to go in order to reach the border?" Soren asked, narrowing his eyes on the map. It was no good, he couldn't make out anything on it. He was used to reading things on paper, so his eyes weren't likely to adjust to anything else. "Or I'll rephrase that, are we going to have to take the long way around because they are expecting us to go the quicker way?"

Arthur hummed softly, tapping one area on the map, which turned red. "The red area is the country we're currently in, if we make it outside the borders we're safe." he tapped an area out near the edge of the map, "If we make it out here we'll find other magic users, and a little further and we'll reach Coris city…" he hummed softly, tracing a pathway from the city they were in, to the edge of the map, "I think if we follow this path, we should make it out safely…"

"I've heard of Coris City, it's supposed to be quite the prosperous place." Soren nodded his head slowly, thinking. "Though times might have changed since then." he leaned his head against Arthur's shoulder, listening to him hum. "We won't be travelling today, I can tell you that much. By now they will have every force available hunting us down, it wouldn't be wise to move for a while."

Arthur nodded, "True, but even if Coris isn't a stable place anymore, it's still better than here, I know for a fact that their rulers are magic users, so they'll be magic friendly." he hummed softly, "If we really had to we could possibly pose as a bonded Rider pair too to get by until we find someplace safe…" he sighed, "Though for now we just need to focus on staying alive."

"Staying alive." Soren repeated softly as his eyes started to close. They burned too much to keep open for much longer. "It will be easier than you think you know. I mean if we have stayed alive this long, then the rest of it will seem too easy." Of course that was just something he kept telling himself, even if it wasn't true. He needed to have hope, especially at a time like this.

Arthur nodded, "We can make it, we just have to keep trying." he smiled softly when he realized the other was falling asleep. "We have to make it… we've been through too much to not…" he whispered mostly to himself as he dissolved the map, eager to return to the wilder outlands.

(I think now would be a good time to say that I am at college Monday–Friday, and work Friday—Sunday. I'm also part of like 15 threads, most of which are RPs. As you've noticed, my responses aren't as frequent as we would both like them to be, and for that I am genuinely sorry.)
