Zack tucked his legs up underneath himself as he watched the tinkling lights of the city. He had somehow found a way to push open the window in the time that Delilah had taken to shower, and was enjoying the light breeze on his face as it pushed slowly into the room. The Demon was the beacon against the wind, so the air didn’t mess with anything in the room as he kept his eyes wide open on the scenery below. Instead the wind pushed his clothes around, ruffled his hair off of his face and tickled his eyelashes as he zoned off in his small perch.

As Delilah argued with herself, Zack quietly listened to his own thoughts of his home as he listened to the white noise of cars below, the wind stirring the blinds, and the shower running a room over. What was he to do in a situation such as this? He hadn’t done a Companionship in such a long period of time, no less for someone not much younger than him. Usually these types of contracts were withheld for smaller children whose parents couldn’t take care of them anymore. This just seemed to be something used by a bored teenager. This whole thing just baffled him. It baffled him to the point of wanting to simply not be in such a situation as this, for when Delilah’s parent inevitably came back, there would be big trouble for her.

When the Human reentered the room, it was still as tidy and clean as they left it. Perhaps a bit chillier due to the window, but Zack’s back was to the door as he watched outside.

Sniffling, Delilah entered her room, shutting the bathroom door behind herself only to find Zackary still perched upon her window sill. She figured he heard her, though he made no move to acknowledge her presence in the slightest. She didn't mind in the slightest, instead only pursing her lips and checking her phone to see if the food had arrived yet. It hadn't yet, it had just been twenty minutes, but she was extremely hungry. She hadn't eaten lunch because she was too caught up in going through the contents of the book. Frowning, she looked back at the demon basking in the wind, who still hadn't moved an inch.

She released a breath, chilly especially since she'd just gotten out of the shower (plus, she got cold fairly easily), and walked over to her dresser where she took off her piercings. Looking into the mirror, she began to wear them again, flicking her tongue over at the piercing on her lip.

"You didn't have to stick in one place. There's a balcony, too," she finally said, breaking the silence. "The food should be here any minute now, just so you know."

Zack enjoyed the silence, even though he suspected his new Companion quite despised it. Her struggling air told him that she wanted to fill the room with some sort of noise. A lot of city Humans were like that; they just couldn’t take a quiet moment to themselves, they always had to have some sort of crutch of sound, whether it came from a radio, a phone, from the street below, or their own mouths. There was nothing wrong with it, of course, but Zack found these types of Humans hard to hang around sometimes. He was what Humans called an “introvert”, whatever that means. He was called it very often, but he himself never bothered to wonder what it meant.

Zack also liked the chilly temperature the wind brought about, enjoying the cold as it stroked his hair and across the wetter surfaces of his face. Though, he had a certain edge against the cold, he would allow himself to be blamed for that.

“I don’t need it,” Zack huffed softly when she finally spoke to him. “Do you still want me to receive the food?” He glanced over his shoulder at her.

Delilah fumbled with her hands, feeling a bit awkward knowing the demon was in her room. It wasn't like she never had any guy in her room before; she had, but it was never a demon. Or someone she barely even knew, even if that someone was summoned by her. And he was agonizingly quiet, something she could never be. She wanted to blast a few songs or call her friends, but the demon was in her room, and she really didn't want to anger him in case something went wrong.

When he finally answered, she released a breath. Sarcastic replies tried to escape, but Delilah controlled herself. Her sass would have to wait. She didn't want to get her ass in her trouble this quickly. The demon even looked like he was running out of patience.

"No," she said, running a hand through her hair and smiling sarcastically. "You just chill on my window and enjoy the cold wind."

Zack gave her an annoyed look over his shoulder, shifting his position on the sill of the window, but not standing to his feet just yet. What was the point of asking him to get the food, then suddenly changing your mind?
This type of thing is what unsettled Zack the most, but before he was able to say anything, he perked up (almost dog-like) when he heard the door downstairs open without a knock.

Voices downstairs, very feminine ones, told them that some of Delilah’s friends had come to visit.
“Delilah! Delilah! Oh, what if she’s not here?”

“Of course she’s here, where else would she go? Her father isn’t here, and it’s almost pitch-black outside,” Sassed a voice in return, more regal and elegant sounding than the first.

“Well, I’m sorry!” Hissed the first voice, which had a slight tone of joking annoyance with the second.

Delilah's mouth opened at the blatant, annoyed look he sent her way. He had got to be kidding her. There was no reason for him to be annoyed, especially when she'd barely done anything! Okay, maybe the sex comment was unnecessary and maybe she made too big of a mess with the salt, but that, by no means, gave him the right to sass her like that. Delilah opened her mouth again, arms crossed, ready to shoot a biting comment when his posture changed. Zackary perked up at the same time she heard the door open, and in that little moment, Delilah realized he resembled a dog. A little.

But the voices that followed nearly sent her into a panic. Her friends were here. Damn it, she'd nearly forgotten they always came over whenever her dad was out on a business trip. They could not know about Zackary. She hadn't even told them about the supernatural book she'd received, especially since horror and paranormal activities weren't really their things in the slightest. If they learned she was housing a demon of all things… well, then she'd practically be abducted. She didn't want to imagine how much salt and iron they would waste. Her friends loved her, and she loved them right back, but they were a little too overprotective.

Delilah heard footsteps getting closer to her door, which instantly made her mind whirl with possible interrogation questions. She knew, with experience, they would barge right in (one of her friends would probably advise against it to give her privacy, but she couldn't count on that) and she could not have that.

"Stay right here!" she shot Zackary a look right before she opened the door a little and slipped out, nearly shutting it when the right of her friends already present startled her. Thankfully, it was shut enough that they couldn't peek inside.

"Heya, guys! Fancy seeing you here," Delilah gripped the doorknob tightly, grinning brightly and hoping they wouldn't notice her nervousness. "How did you get in here? What are you doing here? You didn't even call, you surprised me!"

Their footsteps could be heard as Zack moved slowly off of the ledge, sniffing the air suspiciously. He picked up the strong scent of perfume, which tickled his nose and made him sneeze violently. This is why he disliked most feminine Humans; that mostly strong, overwhelming scents of flowers or various strong smells they’d spray on themselves really messed with his head. He could already feel a headache throbbing in his temples as he was forced to smell the strong scent, which was only growing stronger and stronger as they approached the door.

The two girls stopped when Delilah shut the door. They had just reached the top of the staircase, but they both lit up at the sight of their friend. The first girl had on a small crop top that accentuated her smaller figure, with a pair of sweatpants matching some hightop shoes. Her blonde hair was perched up into a messy bun, and a wide grin was on her pretty, plump features. The second girl was about the complete opposite. She was almost forty pounds heavier, with darker clothes that hugged her body, but still hid unnecessary skin. Her dark brown hair curled up under her strong, feminine jaw.

“Delilah!” squealed the first girl, whose name was Melissa. “We were worried, so we wanted to come over as soon as we were sure we could.” She nodded, her hair moving with her head, as she explained herself.

At first, Delilah was nervous, wondering if somehow her girls had heard the demon in her room, even though they were still at the staircase. She cursed her choices of giving them a spare key each, but it wasn't as if she'd known she would one day summon a demon right in her bedroom. Maybe it would be fine if they found out; surely they wouldn't freak out, right?

No, no, they couldn't know. Delilah knew her friends better than anything; they were beyond protective of her. Like that time back in sixth grade when she suddenly grew sick and they never left her alone. Or when she confessed to this guy in freshman year and he had rejected her, and they all really babied her. Those were just small things, though. If they found her harboring a demon (that is, if they believe her in the first place)… they'd freak. She was the youngest in the group of four, and they treated her like she really was a baby. Perhaps that was why she got away with most things; she could just whip up those eyes and they'd give in.

"Aha, well, as you can see, I'm fine!" Delilah laughed nervously again, her back pressed against the door to her room. She looked over at both her friends, then frowned. Their fourth friend wasn't here. Delilah didn't find that shocking, though, but she only hoped she was doing okay. Usually, Veronica got stuck at home with her beyond-strict parents. Delilah really disliked them with a passion. "Is Veronica not here? Will she be coming by?"

She needed to get her lovely friends away from her room. She only hoped Zackary didn't sneeze again or mess something up. If he did, well… she'd have to lie to her friends, and she did not like lying to them.

"Hey, why don't we sit in the living room or something?"

(aH sorry! I had this in my “To Do” List, I promise, I just had a bunch of stuff to do, and I was going through a lot of personal problems)

The two girls watched their friend act obviously as nervous as she appeared. Delilah was failing miserably at trying to hide something from them, and the pair of girls seemed to both catch on relatively quickly.

Melissa’s pretty features soon trailed into a smile, smirking as she laughed. “Do you have a boy over, or something, D? You’re acting so worked up over nothing! We used to come over unannounced all the time in sophomore year, remember!”

The second girl, whose name was Lola, flicked her dark hair from her suspicious eyes. She always took things significantly more serious than Melissa.
“There’s obviously something up, Delilah.” The girl tilted her head and crossed her arms slowly.

“Exactly!” Squealed Melissa. “We’re not going anywhere until we figure out what’s going on.” She put her foot down firmly onto the carpet of the hallway, which barely made a sound under her weight.

(That's all right! :D Your personal life is definitely far more important than roleplaying. I just hope everything's good on your end! Take your time, please.)

Well, damn. Delilah knew it was likely that her friends would notice her odd behavior, but she had hoped otherwise. They could read her like a book, an advantage they held for knowing her for years. Melissa, Delilah could deter easily. Lola and Veronica were the harder ones. They used to drill her for answers until she gave in, and even though Veronica wasn't here, Delilah had no doubt Lola's presence would make her spill.

At Melissa's words, the girl stiffened, her features shifting into an obvious panic. How had Melissa known it was a guy? Wait, could demons be labeled as guys, or was there another specific noun?

"It is not a guy, Mel!" Delilah shook her head frantically, raising her arms defensively. Then she realized her mistake; Melissa was clearly joking, especially because of the laugh she let out. Her joke had been targeted at Delilah's behavior. She had just given herself away, even though, well, her defensive response could be in relation to her very awkward relationship with men. She quickly corrected herself. "I was just, uh, watching a movie! A horror one. So you guys startled me. I thought it was a murderer!"

(Thank you so much for understanding! I’m doing a bit better now, though. :D)

As soon as her panicked state truly entered the tone of her voice, both Lola and Melissa’s eyebrows shot up suspiciously. Melissa’s suspicion painted a “I was not expecting that” type of look on her face, while Lola held a darker expression of “What else should I expect?”.

At this point, both girls knew their friend was lying. Especially from the shoddy excuse. Suddenly, without a single warning (though it could’ve been expected), Zack couldn’t stifle another one of his gargantuan sneezes. He exploded in his natural Demonic reaction to strong smell, barely covering his mouth in time. He didn’t want to repeat cleaning up the giant room, especially if it were his own bodily fluids.

Lola stepped forward towards the door, holding herself in a fashion that announced that she was ready to fork Delilah out of the way. The broad-shouldered city girl was easily the strongest of the four friends, for her family owned a gym, and she practiced boxing quite regularly.

“What was that, Delilah?” She asked for preface, though, allowing an explanation if it were to be needed.

(I’m glad! Don’t feel pressured about responding when you’re in a tough spot. :D)

When Zackary sneezed again, Delilah nearly jumped out of her skin. Damn it. Her wishes had clearly been rejected, though what was she even expecting? She tried schooling her expression, but Lola’s clear stance crumbled her steadily building strong exterior.

She really did not wish to be at the receiving end of Lola’s wrath. At all. Maybe if she pulled on her baby charms, she’d be forgiven and everything would be good again.

As if. The demon on the other side was nothing compared to her friend.

Delilah pressed herself against the door even more. “Nothing! Okay, fine,” she sighed heavily, dropping her arms, face turning redder as she began to tell another lie. “I was, um, testing some things out. It’s probably from the video I forgot to pause. Listen, it’s nothing to worry about. I promise. I wasn’t doing anything stupid.”

Then she looked at Lola pleadingly, widening her eyes to resemble a puppy. Surely they couldn’t refuse that look, right?

Lola shook her head, her dark hair flicking on either side of her head as Melissa watched helplessly from over the broad shoulder of her comrade. Melissa was more likely to give second chances and give to baby faces, but not Lola. Especially in suspicious situations like this one.

Lola pulled her friend from the door with slight strain, then opened the door. Inside, Zack had repositioned himself on the windowsill, and was practically sticking his whole head to the fresh air outside to stop himself from sneezing more. When the door was opened, his ears twitched visibly from under his hair, and he glanced over, his grey eyes slightly wide at the appearance of the new person.

Thankfully for Lola, Zack looked quite normal, apart from the strange scars on his face, but they could’ve easily been mistaken for shaving scars or something. The whole point of a Contract Demon was to blend in as well as they could to avoid suspicion, such as in situations like this one.

“Oh. It is just a guy.” Lola laughed softly, glancing over her shoulder.

Delilah cursed herself for rejecting her father’s idea of learning any sort of martial arts. She didn’t think she ever needed any, especially since she was athletic and nobody really bothered her, and she could hold her own.

Not against Lola. No, the girl just pulled her aside with little to no effort, opened the door and looked inside. Delilah hid a squeak as Zackary came into view, the demon just as startled as she was. She first thought Lola would explode. Maybe close the door and give her lectures about inviting men into her room. Considering the fact that Delilah was still a virgin (daring you to judge), that option was most likely. She wouldn’t have put it past her friends. Had Veronica been here, she would have done that.

But Lola only laughed and looked back over her shoulder at her panicked friend. “Oh. It is just a guy.”

Delilah could have said anything. She could have claimed Zackary was her cousin, or a distant relative, or anyone else. She could have literally said it was her father’s new boyfriend, even though Zackary looked a tad bit younger for that. Her brain, however, malfunctioned. What came out of her mouth was—

“He’s my boyfriend!”

Thankfully Lola had backed out of the room, so she couldn’t see Zack’s stunned expression as Delilah fibbed up the lie. His hooded eyes became rounder than one might be able to think possible. He was most certainly not any type of boyfriend to Delilah, but rather they were mere acquaintances who had just met.

“Your boyfriend?” Melissa squealed, unable to barge in and look because of the bigger girls standing in the way. She was always excited when a friend got into a relationship, despite being in one herself. “Lola, is he cute?”

Lola gave a small shrug. She wasn’t really into looking men up and down to decide what type they were. But if Delilah liked him, surely he was a nice guy.
“Are you gonna invite him downstairs with us?” Lola asked instead, glancing at Delilah.

Delilah had really done it this time. While Melissa was undeniably excited in response to Delilah’s declaration, the girl herself wasn’t. And she didn’t think the demon happy about it, either.

“Um, I’d have to ask him about that. Check if he’s comfortable with it. He’s an introvert, you see,” Delilah fumbled with her fingers, flicking her tongue over her lip piercing. “Can you give us some… privacy? You can go check up on Mr. Snuffles and Lunch in the pet area. They’ve been really quiet and I think Mr. Snuffles has gotten Lunch stuck again.”

She was trying hard not to look at Zackary, a bit nervous for his reaction. But he should understand, right? Why she said what she said? It wasn’t like she was going to kiss him or something. Her cheeks burned at the mere thought of it.

“And, um, please keep it a secret from dad?” The last thing Delilah needed was her father finding out about such a lie. “You know how he gets when a boy comes into the picture. I really, really need this one to stay. Please?”

The two girls nodded, Lola basically dragging Melissa off with her. They went downstairs and brought the perfume scent with them.

Zack felt it was safe to re-emerge from his sanctum of the window, plopping down onto the ground, rubbing his nose furiously still. He had been too busy trying to not explode from the inside out, and now because of the convenience of the two girls disappearing, he felt much better to talk to Delilah about what just happened.

“Who was they?” The Demon asked, able to relax a little now that he wasn’t berated with sneezes. “And I’m not your boyfriend, am I? We didn’t exactly… well, I suppose we did.” If he thought about it, companionship did entail romantic relationships, too. He just never got a lot of romance from his job. In fact, there was a soul-sucking lack thereof in it.

When her friends left, Delilah sighed and shut the door behind herself. She sighed once again, then turned her attention towards Zackary, who had finally stepped back down on the floor. He was rubbing his nose, though, which worried her. He kept sneezing. Was there something he was allergic to? Pets? Animals? He hadn’t mentioned any allergies. Perhaps there was something outside.

At his first question, she opened her mouth to answer, but his following questions made her choke on air. She coughed, trying to calm herself down, and schooled her burning cheeks. She cleared her throat, wiping at her eyes and sniffling.

“Those are two of my best friends, and no!” Delilah answered the last part rather fiercely, crossing her arms over her chest. Why was he so accepting towards the situation? Shouldn’t he be angry she made him her boyfriend without any word of approval? “I can’t let them know who you are. They’re protective of me; if they found out, I’d be in very big trouble. So, in their eyes, we might be dating, but I will not touch you unnecessarily. You don’t have to worry about me making demands regarding that matter.”

Delilah wordlessly walked over to her nightstand, plucked out a tissue, and held it for him.

“Do you want to join us downstairs? I guess it’ll be fun. We’ll probably watching movies and having snacks,” she said to him. “And good thing I ordered a lot of Chinese, huh? That should be here by now, too.”

Zack watched her blankly, his grey eyes describing no sort of anger with being called something as loose as “boyfriend”. He’d heard the term often, but because of what his work entailed and the types of… encounters he had with other Humans, he couldn’t even begin to be bothered with shyness at this rate. Humans had demanded he give his body to them, so even if the weak romantic-gestures were required to sell the story, Zack wouldn’t really care all that much. He didn’t care much to begin with, really. All that mattered to him was getting away from that sickly perfume scent.

The Demon accepted the tissue and sneezed into it, blowing his nose as quietly as he could just by a force of habit. He sniffled and neatly folded the tissue, tucking it away into his pocket for further use.

“I think I might be allergic to something your friends are wearing. They call it… perfume? Right? Really strong smells like that really irritate my nose,” He explained, “I can come down with you guys if you’d want me to, but my eagerness of sneezing is less than what you might think it is.”

Delilah wrapped her arms around herself and sniffled, and then began to tap her foot against the floor. So that explained his sudden, loud sneezes. She admitted her friends liked to put on perfume, sometimes strong, sometimes light. Delilah preferred something soft, like fruits. She wasn't allergic like the demon in front of her was, but there were just some things that gave her a headache. Her choices in perfume always surprised the others, though, given her appearance. She shook her head and breathed through her nose.

"I'm sorry, I had no idea you were allergic. Is there anything I can get you?" she finally asked, her voice slow, as she contemplated what kind of a demon she summoned. Did the supernatural beings even get sick? She felt incredibly stupid for thinking otherwise. There was a lot she didn't know, it seems. Humans were really clueless. "And it's okay, you don't have to. Though I would have appreciated a bit of support in dealing with them." Delilah chuckled, trying to lighten up the atmosphere. It struck to her then that in the hours he'd been here, Zackary never smiled even once. "You can, um, stay in my room if you want. I can bring food when it arrives. There's a table and chairs set on the balcony, and you can just… do whatever you want?"

Except browse through the books on her shelves. She did not want him going through her supernatural books and crinkling his nose in a judging way.

"I'll leave you alone now. If there's anything you want, just, uh, call for me."

Zack watched her talk to him, and his facials suggested that he was questioning why the hell she was even talking to him in the first place. He wasn’t used to Humans trying to make conversation with him, either, as sad as that sounds. His facial construct did not change when she tried to make him smile, just blinking a few times (was there a glimmer of confusion in those grey eyes?) instead of smiling back. He nodded a few times, stretching himself out slowly, giving a big yawn. He might find somewhere to nap after he ate some food. Obviously she wasn’t going to need anything from him any time soon.

“Well, if you do need anything, don’t hesitate to tell me,” The Demon rumbled quietly. “I’m not your guest; I’m your Companion, so to speak so brashly. I’ll still be up here and… doing my thing.”

person_off
Deleted user

Delilah had to admit this was the first time she was blatantly rejected. People liked talking to her. She was fun! Everyone at school liked her (at least, the nice ones). She was fun to hang out with. But Zackary’s facial expression told her he was not appreciating her company, or her in general. This was a bit of a blow to her self-esteem. She usually didn’t care about what people thought of her, but it was always bothering when people didn’t like her. It was confusing.

Delilah’s smile dropped from her lips and she raised an eyebrow, her arms now loose around her chest.

“If you want to sleep, choose any of the guest rooms left to my room,” the girl said to her Companion, her voice flat, though not impolite. “I’ll get your food. It should be here by now. Again, if you need something, just call for me.”

Without waiting for a reply, the blue-haired girl walked out of the room and down the steps. The bell rang, signaling the arrival of the food, so she went to the front door to get it. Her friends would probably be back from the pet room, so she knew she didn’t need to call for them.

Zack watched her leave, feeling slightly confused as to what he could’ve done to get her so miffed. Was it something he said or did? The air about her when she left made the Demon slightly concerned as he moved back to his window, tucking himself along the sill.

The anxiety, if you will, persisted the longer the stayed alone without an answer. Humans were usually very open about their emotions, more so than he was. After a while, Zack considered reading Humans a sport; one he was particularly good at, in fact. He rose from his sill to go receive his food once he heard the doorbell, thinking he’d try to make an effort to give support to his Companion. They were going to be together for a while, and he might as well try to get to know her friends.

He thumped down the steps quietly, nosing the air and immediately fighting the urge to sneeze as he heard two girls approaching.

“Oh, goodness, he certainly is cute, isn’t he?” squealed Melissa, who had been approaching from the pet room. Unfortunately for Zack, he had just dropped from the large flight of steps onto the main floor, so her approach was not forewarned, therefore scaring the living daylights out of the jumpy Demon. He jumped about three feet, whipping around, his eyes big and startled.

Delilah chewed on her bottom lip as she received the food, feeling slightly guilty for the way she spoke to the demon she summoned. It was rather obvious he wasn’t used to chitchat. His quiet personality gave that away, and to expect him to talk to her was being selfish. After all, it was hard for her to stay quiet, just as it was hard for him to talk. If someone told her when to open her mouth and when to stay quiet, she’d feel sad. So she decided when giving Zackary his food, she’d apologize. She didn’t like brooding on one topic for too long, so she’d get it done as soon as possible.

With a sigh, Delilah turned for the dining room again, and then plastered a smile on her face. Surely she couldn’t see her friends with a frown on her face; they’d catch her lie immediately. Though she was quite shy when talking about the person she liked, so maybe that would prove to be advantageous.

When she stepped into the open space on her way to set her food on the table, she saw Zackary and her friends already there. Though… the demon should have been in her room. She hadn’t asked him to come. And he looked rather… startled? The space between Delilah’s eyebrows crinkled and her lips pursed. What had happened to make him so tense?

“Uh… you okay?” she finally asked, shifting the heavy bag of food from her right hand to her left. Maybe she should have taken weights as a class, too. “What’d I miss? What’re you doing?”

Just as Delilah approached with the question, her friends appeared from around the corner, taking in the startled Demon and Delilah covered in bags. Zack, in an attempt to act as if he was a completely normal human being, turned to help Delilah with the bags, his cheeks turning pale as he realized his stupid mistake. His answer did not leave his lips, his jaw remained glued shut as he relieved Delilah of her weight. Zack scurried away to find the kitchen as rapidly as he could before he was brought into a conversation.

Melissa watched the retreating back of her friend’s boyfriend, her eyes glinting. “You were right, Lola. He’s really cute but he’s not exactly talkative, is he?” She asked Delilah, tilting her head as she moved forward.

Lola hummed her quiet response, her eyes slightly suspicious. “Yeah. You know, Delilah, I always thought you’d go for someone a bit more… loquacious.” She glanced at her friend curiously. They all had known each other for quite some time, so seeing Delilah paired up with someone who had barely even looked at them, was quite the shock.

Delilah's frown deepened when Zackary took the bags from her and retreated, almost as if he was running away. What had happened? Had she done something wrong? She couldn't even open her mouth to thank him before he was gone. The girl flexed her fingers and released a breath. Living with that demon was going to be rather difficult, huh?

"You know, Delilah, I always thought you'd go for someone a bit more… loquacious."

The girl in question snapped out of her bubble and looked at her friends, first in confusion, then in a slight panic. Lola had a suspicious look in her eyes, and that was not good. She was already walking on thin ice; she couldn't stumble and fall under. That wouldn't lead to anything good.

"First of all, I don't know what that word means," Delilah started, trying to think of something else to say, though what she'd just admitted wasn't a lie. She was good at history, geography, and chemistry, but English and mathematics were things she really struggled in. She blamed that on her rebellious streak when she lived with her biological mother. Shaking her head, she turned her attention back at what her friends were suggesting. "And he… he's really nice once he's comfortable. He's just not a people person. But he's really nice, otherwise, I wouldn't be—" her cheeks darkened—"dating him, right?"

“Right, of course he’s nice. I mean someone more talkative and open. He hasn’t even said hi to us yet,” Lola hummed softly, glancing to the direction of the kitchen, where the rustling of bags could be heard as the Demon prepared the Chinese.

The Demon himself found himself in a predicament. The Chinese hadn’t come with any sort of silverware, so he struggled internally with whether or not he should frantically search the huge kitchen for some, or rely on luck that the pair of outside girls wouldn’t be suspicious. Quietly, he began his search, his eyes wide as he looked through drawer after drawer. Most were empty (what was the point of all of the damn drawers????), but he finally found the silverware, in which he grabbed several forks and spoons.

Maybe he was stressing himself out too much. Though, admittedly, this situation was sort of tense. He just got here, already facing things he’s not used to, and surrounded by a pack of girls.

Delilah looked at her friends, rubbed the back of her neck, and cleared her throat. Already, the situation was too weird. Too awkward. She wouldn't be able to fool her friends for long, especially if they asked where and how did they meet. Before they could do so, though, she decided to bail.

"He's just not very good with people. That's why I hadn't introduced you guys yet. I wanted him to be a bit more comfortable before pushing his comfort zone a bit," she supplied, hoping Zackary wouldn't kill her for the false information she was spreading. Though really, he wasn't even the least bit ticked with her claim of them dating. Perhaps he wouldn't mind this bit, either? Whatever, she'd spill the truth when she was ready and sure her friends wouldn't tap into their protective nature. Delilah turned her attention to the kitchen, tilting her head to the side. "Listen, you both stay here. I'll go and check up on him to make sure everything's okay. And could you guys not get too close? He's allergic to strong perfume, and you're kind of loaded with it."

The girls were the ones who became helpless when Delilah shut down any other protests. Lola gave a small nod of reluctance, grabbing Melissa and dragging her to the living room. The powerful girl still looked suspicious of Delilah and this whole situation, and by no means was she ready to let it go, but they weren’t going to get anything out of Delilah for now.

After Zack had laid his hands on some silverware, he prepared the plates of food, letting the simple task calm him down. He picked up his own, quietly biting into an egg-roll that he had asked for. He’d be able to go back upstairs with the quiet sky and whistling wind soon enough.

Delilah walked into the kitchen with a calm she never really possessed. From what she’d seen, Zackary was a bit jumpy. His wide eyes, startled, kept reappearing, and she told herself to avoid making things worse. That meant speaking softly, and in a leveled tone, as hard as it would be.

“Zackary?” she called for the demon as she stepped into the big kitchen. Almost immediately, she found him near a counter, eating an egg-roll, his posture still stiff. It was a huge contrast to see him this way, when he’d been almost snarky with her just before her friends came over.

Delilah stopped when she was a considerable distance away from him, drumming her restless fingers against the counter. She exhaled slowly.

Finally, she broke the silence. “I’m really sorry about earlier. The way I talked to you, I mean. I shouldn’t have spoken to you like that.” Delilah scrunched her nose and continued, tiptoeing near another rambling session, “Actually, I probably have been getting on your nerves ever since you got here. I’m just a bit awkward around guys, and I can’t deal with the silence at all. It was wrong of me to push you like that. So I’m sorry for bothering you. And Melissa and Lola are gone for now, and you don’t have to see them or anything if you don’t want to.”
