Ace logged into the online site where he was DM for a bunch of lovable idiots, he switched on his headphones and mic and began speaking. "All the nerds here?"
Online Friends (It's Closed Boo)
Ale had been waiting for her friends to get on, and jolted up in her seat when Ace’s voice sung through her set.
“Nerd one here!” She chirruped back.
"Hello, nerd one! How have you been?" Ace asked, swinging his legs over to the side of his spinny chair and dangling them in the air.
Ale yawned and stretched out spectacularly. “I’ve been well. Tired. How about you?”
"Pretty much the same thing, been working more." Ace said, returning the loud yawn.
Gene quickly launched themself into their seat, swiftly logging on to the server and fumbling with their headset. "Ah shit fuck. Sorry. There we go." Gene was mumbling as they finally put the headset on correctly.
Ace laughed. "And nerd two is here! Now all we need is nerd three!" He said, making the words rhyme just cause he was bored and stalling.
Talia stretched as she logged on, "Nerd three prepared for duty." she murmured her generally icy voice sounding smoother over the mic.
"How are ya nerd threeeeeeeee?" Ace drawled, stretching out the word. He was completely prepared to start DMing… but still, he was nervous about the plot twist he was about to spring.
"Oh you know, plotting world domination from your local Starbucks." Talia saluted the computer with her iced coffee as she spoke, knowing they couldn't see her, but humorous nonetheless.
"Sounds about right." Ace managed to say right before he toppeled off his chair. "Damn it!" He yelled, pissed.
Gene muffled their laughter as they heard Ace fall off his chair. "You okay there, cheif?" Gene got out between chuckles.
"I'm good, about to burn this chair to ashes, but good." Ace said, you could practically hear the evil scientist in him.
Talia grinned as she sucked down more iced coffee. "What do ya got for us today, Ace?"
"A bit of a bunch! Ya remember last session when Y'all had to go through the dungeon and ended up in a tower in the sky? That's where we left off right?"
"Sounds about right. Seems like you've got something good for us then, yeah?" Gene confirmed as they spun around aimlessly in their swivel chair, careful not to get the cords wrapped around anything. They fiddled with the mic lever on their headset, trying to get it just right as they spun themself back around to face the screen again.
"This better not end with me getting eaten by a damn troll again." Talia muttered. She was still cranky about that particular route the game session had taken a few months ago.
Ace chuckled. "It probably won't, but if it does I'm going to laugh." He said, the nonchalant shrug obvious in his voice. "Anyhow, where's nerd one?"
Ale had gotten off momentarily to grab some food. The others were distracted enough, anywho. She brought her amazing spicy ramen back and sat down.
“Nerd one back!” She mumbled through a mouthful of hot noodle.
"Okay, we have all nerds. Time to begin!" Ace said as his author tries to look up how dungeon masters start sessions.
"Hey wait a sec… Ale! Is that food I hear?" Gene joked, secretly wishing that they had gotten up to go get food of their own. Who knows, it could be a long session after all. "Shit that reminds me. I'll be right back!" Gene quickly spluttered into the mic before ripping of their headset and taking off down the hallway to raid the pantry for snacks in preparation.
"Oh damn, yeah I need to grab my tea and chocolate." Ace muttered as the muffled sound of his headset being set down was heard. He walked over to his apartment's kitchen and pulled out his chocolate and mug for tea.
Ale slurped up her noodles, the noise sounding clear through the others sets.
“Sure is! Get your food!”
Talia sat back in her comfy armchair. She was a regular at this Starbucks so the barista's behind the bar knew her order like the backs of their hands. She was prepped and ready to go. "Noobs." She giggled into her mic. "We've done this for how long and you still don't know to get your munchies first?"
"Oh shush, I'm in a forgetful mood today and I need my fucking chocolate." Ace muttered, he had just come back and was now slouched in his old chair. A chair that he didn't want to throw into the firey depths of hell.
Talia chuckled, as she flicked from page to page on the internet. Her fingers flying over the keyboard as she responded to forums and blogs that she ran. "Ever the grump, Ace."
"Eh, Y'all only catch me on the suckiest time of the month." He said with a chuckle as the sound of him typing was heard. "Everyone has their food?"
Gene quickly ran back into the room, throwing various bags of chips and cookies at their desk and leaping back into their chair, gripping two 2-liter bottles of soda. "I'm back and with food!" Gene called, quickly jamming their headset back on.
