Wilhelm sat down a minute or two later, immediately digging in. Clearly the boy was hungry.

Connor took a bite of food, letting out a soft breath as he enjoyed his meal.
Wilhelm didn’t savor the food nearly as much as Connor did. He polished off the meal in less than ten minutes.
Connor kept eating. He ate a bit slower than Wilhelm did.
He took a sip of his water, sitting straight in his seat and fixing his posture. Wilhelm drummed his fingers on the table, looking around the dining hall.
Connor finished up his food, pushing his plate away and letting out a slow, soft breath.
Wilhelm lightly tapped his fork on the edge of his plate, eyes still wandering. He didn’t really have anything to talk about, to be honest.
Connor closed his eyes for a moment, before opening them again, looking over at Wlhelm for a moment.
(okay we really need to figure out how to get these two together because this is driving me insane)

(the issue is that theyve literally known each other for like 5 days and also i have no idea how- i just know wilhelm would be very hesitant to admit it first)
Wilhelm slid back in his chair, picking up his plate and glass. “I’ll be right back.” He left to put away his dishes, sitting back down after a few minutes.

Connor sighed quietly, and nodded. He looked up when Wilhelm came back, shooting him a quick, soft smile. "Hey."

That smile almost killed him. But he’d rather die than admit it. “Hey.” He smiled back, crossing his legs and clasping his hands together on the table.

Connor ran a hand through his hair, letting out a breath. "So…" He trailed off. "Is this how the weeks usually are here? Or are there any things in the evenings ah should know about?"
“No, this is the usual week. Some people might host study groups in their dorms, but otherwise evenings are quiet.” Wilhelm tried to explain himself a little better. “Leaving campus is difficult at best, but if you can get a teacher to go with you- or at least secure a way between here and town- it’s not impossible.”
Connor nodded a little. "Ah, alright." he replied. "Makes sense. What if ah need to buy something?" He needed a new sketchbook soon.
“I believe that the monthly class trip downtown is scheduled soon.” Wilhelm thought for a moment. “Yes. Two weeks from now, if I remember correctly?”
Connor nodded. "Alright. Ah need a new sketchbook soon. Mine's runnin' out o' pages." he replied, looking over at Wilhelm for a moment.
“Is it? Hm. If you need paper, it’ll take me ages to fill up my own notebook.” Wilhelm, of course, was referring to the leather-bound sketchbook that he kept his plant drawings and notes in. A field guide, of sorts, but it had taken him nearly a year to get even a quarter of the way through.
"Oh. Ah would nae want ta use up yer sketchbook. Ah'll be fine." Connor replied with a slight shrug.
“If you’re sure. The offer is on the table if you change your mind.” Wilhelm turned his head to the window for a moment, watching the sun lazily sink down into the horizon.
He nodded a little bit. "Alright. Thank you fer th' offer, though." he said, looking over at Wilhelm with a little smile.
Wilhelm smiled back. It was weird- he’d probably smiled more in the past few days than he did in the average week, and he was thankful that Connor didn’t have a point of reference on that. “Of course, of course, any time.”
Connor nodded. He got up to take care of his dishes, coming back after a minute and plopping back down into his seat.
“So.” Wilhelm began, taking another glance outside. “Not tonight, of course, but I think I may walk back out to that pond on campus sometime after classes.”
Connor nodded a little bit. "Alright." he replied slowly, a little unsure why Wilhelm was telling him this.
Fuck. Wilhelm could read in Connor’s tone and tell he was weirded out, wasn’t he? He leaned his head back slightly. “Sorry- I just needed conversation, I guess. You’re free to join me if you’d like, though.” As soon as he offered, Wilhelm regretted it. Because Connor wouldn’t want to do that, he was sure, and trying to invite him felt futile.

"Ah was jus' a little confused aboot why yeh were tellin' me." Connor explained, looking at Wilhelm and shooting him a quick smile. "Ah'd love ta come though, if yer sure tha' yer alright wi' tha'."

“I figured, sorry.” Wilhelm laughed a little, possibly to try and break any odd tension that he had inadvertently created. “Of course I am. Being out there by yourself, while fun for the first few minutes, tends to get rather lonely. And it’s lovely around sunset, luckily. Lord knows that’s the only time I’ll be able to be outside.”

Connor nodded a little bit. "Alrigh'. Ah'll bring m' sketchbook, then. Ah want ta draw the pond." he replied.
“That’s smart, yeah.” Wilhelm nodded, tapping his index finger on the scarred-up table. “The weather is getting warmer, which means the plant life may have begun to bloom and put out pollen..” He was mainly thinking out loud for that last bit, but it came out anyways.
Connor just nodded a little bit, listening to Will. A lot of it just went right over his head. He knew the basics of how plants grew, but he didn't really know much else.
