Sterling’s POV:
I raised an eyebrow at her, giving her a small smirk. “Sorry, Eden. Not gonna happen. I care about you, and I don’t like anyone else.”
Sterling’s POV:
I raised an eyebrow at her, giving her a small smirk. “Sorry, Eden. Not gonna happen. I care about you, and I don’t like anyone else.”
Eden’s POV:
I’d be lying if I said his words didn’t affect me even a little bit. I felt a small smile creep up on my lips while my eyes stung. I couldn’t possibly be teary-eyed over something like this, could I? This wasn’t like me.
“I guess I’m stuck with you,” I forced the words out of my mouth, walking over to the passenger seat of his car, trying to prevent him from seeing my face in case it was red.
Sterling’s POV:
I chuckled a bit and unlocked my car. The black Mustang was one of my favorite things that I owned.
“That you are. But I hope you’ll end up liking it,” I murmured under my breath.
Eden’s POV:
The second I opened the door, I looked up towards Sterling, tilting my head.
“Hm?” I blinked at him. “What did you say?”
Sterling’s POV:
“Oh, nothing. Just talking to myself a bit,” I assured her with what I hoped was a convincing smile as I sat down in my seat.
Eden’s POV:
I hummed lightly, sitting down and closing the door before fastening the seatbelt. The car felt incredibly comfortable. I suddenly wished my car was as comfortable as this, but I shook the thought away because I had been the one to select that car.
My exhaustion creeped up at me the second I laid my head against the seat. I didn’t want to fall asleep again in Sterling’s presence, so I took out my phone and opened a game, trying to keep myself busy.
“How is Tobias?” I finally asked in a quiet voice.
Sterling’s POV:
I was glad she hadn’t asked again. Not that what I said shouldn’t have been heard by her, but it might have made her uncomfortable. Which, admittedly, was probably not good… I really needed to work on filtering my words sometimes.
“He’s doing pretty well. He’s been home more around the same time as I have lately, so that’s nice. It’s good to see him more,” I said, glancing over at her as I buckled myself in and started the car before beginning to back out.
Eden’s POV:
“That’s nice,” I murmured, looking over at Sterling. “The age difference must make it awkward, I suppose. Luke and I are just a few minutes apart.”
Sterling’s POV:
I shrugged, my eyes trained in the road ahead of me. “It’s not bad. We play video games together a lot. Or, like, watch movies and stuff. Eat. Ya know, that sorta thing.”
Eden’s POV:
I shrugged, closing my eyes, a deep breath escaping my lips. I opened them again to ask Lucas how long it would take to reach our destination. He replied rather quickly, so it must have been Ashley.
“We have thirty minutes of a drive,” I murmured tiredly, locking my phone and closing my eyes. At times like this, I wanted to listen to music, but I couldn’t. Not with Sterling right next to me.
Sterling’s POV:
Hm… Rather long time… I’m glad I’m not alone.
“Would you like to put some music on while we drive? My car has Bluetooth if you want to connect your phone,” I suggested, my gaze flicking toward her quickly before turning back to the road.
Eden’s POV:
I blinked at Sterling, mostly to try to shake sleep away.
“It’s fine,” I replied. “Unless it’s Kanye or Drake and the likes, you can play whatever you want.”
I extremely disliked Kanye or Drake’s songs. I was usually open to music, but I didn’t appreciate theirs. The music was good in its own way, but it didn’t appeal to me. It wasn’t my cup of tea.
Sterling’s POV:
“Oh, no. I don’t care for them, honestly,” I said, shaking my head. “If you want to, you can shuffle through my music. Pick whatever you want.”
Eden’s POV:
I felt too tired and sleepy to respond. Instead, I kept my eyes closed, not even bothering to keep myself awake.
Before I knew it, I had already lost myself to the darkness.
Sterling’s POV:
I glanced over at her again when she didn’t respond, and the sight I was met with brought a smile to my lips. Gosh, she was beautiful… If only I wasn’t driving; then I could appreciate her more.
With a sigh, I turned my eyes back on the road. Maybe I should try to filter my thoughts more, too…
Lucas’s POV:
“I’d say she didn’t go because she’s annoying with us,” I said to Ashely the second we got into my car. “See, it’s so obvious she’s doing this to get closer to him!”
I knew I was exaggerating it a little (okay, a lot), but there was finally something that made Eden act like that, and I just couldn’t stop it. It was nice to see her like that, despite running into that scumbag of an ex.
Ashley’s POV:
“I know, Lucas. And I agree,” I chuckled, setting a gentle hand on his knee as I looked over at him softly. “I’m glad you came around and can see that Sterling’s not a bad guy. If she’ll let him, I think he could be a good thing for Eden.”
Sterling’s POV:
I felt something gently rest on my shoulder, and I looked over to see Eden’s head there. My smile grew as I reached my opposite hand up to brush a piece of hair out of her face before returning my attention to the road.
When would we get there? I just wanted to hold her… I wanted her to be mine, for goodness sake.
(Just wait, Sterling!!! She’ll be yours!)
Lucas’s POV:
I smiled, reaching towards her and kissing her lightly.
“I hope that’s true…” I murmured.
Eden’s POV:
Although it wasn’t for very long, I felt much better after that short sleep. I swallowed slowly, shifting slightly but not moving out of the position I was in. It was far too comfortable. I wanted to sleep a little longer.
(I know that, but poor Sterling…)
Ashley’s POV:
I giggled a bit and pushed him away. “Pay attention to driving, babe. I’d rather not get into an accident because you decided you needed to kiss me while you were driving.”
Sterling’s POV:
This was dangerous. I just wanted to look at her, watch her peaceful, beautiful face as she slept. But I was driving. I couldn’t do that. Not without consequences.
I chewed on my lip and tried to focus on the road. Feeling her shift, though, I couldn’t help but glance at her again. Dang it… I liked her so much…
Lucas’s POV:
I grinned, turning my attention back on the road.
“Hey, what can I do when my girlfriend is super hot?” I said casually. “Oh, I can’t see Sterling’s car. Can you call Eden and ask where they are currently?”
Eden’s POV:
I woke up to Car Radio blasting in the car, waking me up. I felt far too comfortable in the position I was in, and although the headrest was a bit hard, it was pleasant. I shifted once again, hoping my phone would stop ringing when I realized there was no headrest. My eyes immediately snapped open and I sat up straight, my cheeks heating up immediately.
There was no headrest. It was Sterling’s arm I was sleeping on.
Ashley’s POV:
I felt my cheeks burn and knew I was blushing hard. “Oh, shuddup… I’m not the hot one, Luca. That’s you,” I argued, trying to get my blush to die down as I dialed Eden’s number.
Sterling’s POV:
The weight on my shoulder lifted suddenly, and I glanced over to see Eden sitting straight up with pink cheeks. She was embarrassed… It was cute seeing her blushing, nearly as cute as she was asleep.
“Morning, sleepyhead. You gonna get that call?” I asked, hoping she would hear the teasing in my voice and notice the playful smirk on my lips.
Lucas’s POV:
I scoffed.
“Yeah, but we’re talking about you,” I grinned, reaching out to ruffle her hair. “We’re almost there. Is she picking up?”
Eden’s POV:
I reached to punch Sterling lightly on the shoulder, embarrassed.
“Shut up…” I mumbled as I grabbed my phone and answered the call. “What? Oh, I think we’re nearly there, about five minutes.”
I paused before scowling.
“No. See you there, Lee.”
Ashley’s POV:
“She said they’ll be there in five,” I explained as I hung up and put my phone away. Turning to face Lucas better, I smiled at him gently. “What about us? Five minutes? Or more or less?”
Sterling’s POV:
I chuckled as she swatted at me, shaking my head in amusement at her attitude. Hearing the end of her conversation, I glanced over at her quickly. “What was that?”
Lucas’s POV:
“We’re almost there, too,” I answered, taking a turn. “Was she sleeping?”
Eden’s POV:
I sighed.
“They wanted to know where we were,” I answered, still a bit embarrassed. Especially because it was really comfortable. “Why didn’t you wake me?”
Ashley’s POV:
“I think so,” I chuckled, amused. “She sounded tired and embarrassed. I’m sure Sterling enjoyed it, though.”
Sterling’s POV:
I shrugged, glancing over at her again. “You looked peaceful. I didn’t want to disturb your sleep. Plus, it was cute.”
Lucas’s POV:
I laughed.
“He really would,” I agreed. “Well, here we are!”
Eden’s POV:
“It wasn’t cute,” I argued, shaking my head. “You’re making it cute.”
Ashley’s POV:
“Great! Now, as soon as you park, you can kiss me all you want,” I teased him with a grin, referring to our earlier conversation.
Sterling’s POV:
I chuckled, shaking my head. “No, it really was cute. How am I making it cute? How does that work?”
Lucas’s POV:
I turned red before I cleared my throat.
“Yes, right, of course,” I stammered right before I parked the car.
Eden’s POV:
I glowered at Sterling before I huffed loudly.
“I’m not cute,” I said, shifting in my seat as Sterling took a right turn. We were nearly there, just a turn away. “You’re ruining my image, Sterling. I look anything but cute.”
Ashley’s POV:
I’m sure my eyes sparkled with the laughter bubbling up in me. Gosh, he was so fun to tease. It was really cute.
“Should we wait here for Eden and Sterling, then?” I asked, smiling at him innocently.
Sterling’s POV:
“Well, then, I promise not to tell anyone about how you’re really adorable when you’re sleeping,” I teased with a light laugh. “We wouldn’t want to ruin your image, now would we?”
(I THOUGHT I RESPONDED.)
Lucas’s POV:
“Of course,” I replied, killing the car’s engine and looking at her with a grin. “So, where were we?”
Eden’s POV:
Sterling parked the car, giving me a teasing smile as he finished his comment. I frowned, taking off my seatbelt and adjusting my position so I was facing him.
“I’m not adorable, Sterling,” I disagreed, furrowing my eyebrows. I’d been called tough-looking and scary, but never was I called cute by another boy. I wasn’t cute, but for some strange reason, I felt happy. “You’re mistaken.” I poked his chest for emphasis, glaring deeply.
