Eden’s POV:

I called my parents to tell them what the nurse said. Both of them wanted to skip work to come but I told them not to. They needed to work. Lee and I were with Luke. They need to concentrate on their work.

I hadn’t checked my phone again after texting Sterling and honestly, I couldn’t bring myself to do so. I didn’t want Sterling to see me like this, completely and utterly broken. I didn’t know what I would do once I saw him. I knew I would break down. I also knew the desperation I’d feel would force me to go beyond what I felt. So I didn’t check my phone.

“Come on, Luke… wake up…”

Eden’s POV:

I looked at myself in the mirror. My hair was a mess, and so was my face. My eyes were red and swollen from crying and there were tear stains on my cheeks. I sighed, taking off my glasses and washing my face with cold water, hoping it would make me feel better.

It didn’t, of course.

I wiped my face with a towel, grabbed my glasses and walked out of the bathroom, feeling sick to my stomach. I felt incredibly weak but I couldn’t bring myself to eat anything.

When I walked out, Ashley was holding her phone with a confused expression on her features.

Eden’s POV:

“What?”

No. He couldn’t. Why? Why couldn’t he leave me alone?

“Why didn’t you say no to him?” I then shook my head, knowing it wasn’t Ashley’s fault. I know I was being selfish and a brat, and this was my boyfriend I was ignoring, but with Luke like this, I didn’t think I had the right to smile. With Ashley broken, I didn’t have the right to have my boyfriend beside me. Although I felt relieved that Sterling actually wanted to find me, but I still couldn’t shake off the unwelcoming feeling.

Eden’s POV:

I slumped back on my seat, heaving a tired and exhausted sigh. I looked at Lucas again, who almost looked peaceful lying there. Why wasn’t he more careful?

“How can he just sleep like that, so peacefully?” I murmured, reaching out to softly brush a hair away from his face. “He should wake up quickly and spare us the worry…”

I didn’t want to leave when there was a chance he’d wake up. I wanted to be there when he woke up. I wanted him to know how much he worried his little sister so he wouldn’t be an idiot again.

Eden’s POV:

I jumped at Sterling’s voice, whipping my head in his direction. For someone who didn’t want to see him, I felt really relieved. Now that he was in front of me, all I wanted to do was get myself wrapped up in his arms.

“Sterling…” I whispered, trembling as I stood up shakily. Lack of food had gotten me wobbly and weak, but the nauseous feeling still remained.

I wish he’d just close the distance and hug me tight. I wish I could cry in his arms because God, I just saw him and what I feared was going to come true. I knew the second I’d see him, I’d break even more.

Eden's POV:

I dug my face in his neck, gripping his shirt tightly in my hands as tears broke loose. I wasn't a crybaby, and that was something I prided myself in. But almost losing Luke… That broke something in me and I didn't know how to stop it.

"I'm so–I'm so sorry," I sobbed, clinging to him desperately. "I wanted to see you so badly but I wanted to stay beside Luke in case he woke up… I didn't talk to you because I knew I'd break and I didn't want to–and Sterling, I'm so scared. The doctor said he'd wake up in the morning but it's already almost eight and he's still asleep and I'm so scared, Sterling… that's my twin brother, my other half…"

Eden’s POV:

I nodded slowly, my grip on his shirt getting tighter. I don’t know how long we stood there—minutes?—but soon, I started to feel my exhaustion creep up at me. I took a peek at Ashley, who continued to look at Lucas with an unreadable expression on her face. I pulled away from Sterling, and even though I wanted nothing more than to crawl back into his embrace again, I walked over to Ashley and wrapped my arms around her, holding her close. I didn’t want her to feel left out.

“He’s going to be all right,” I repeated the words the doctors, the nurses, and Sterling said to us. “And when we wakes up and gets better, we’ll kill him for making us worry. All right?”

Eden’s POV:

After a while (two hours, maybe? I didn’t remember. I was too caught up in being wrapped around Sterling to notice the time) Sterling went out to get us some water and food (despite us protesting) and I took my respective place on the other side of Lucas. I had his hand in my hand, slowly playing with his fingers, thinking of countless ways I could kill him for making us worry.

Then, a groan—barely heard, but still audible—reached my ears. It was filled with pain and I immediately whipped my head towards Lucas, eyes wide.

“Lee, I think he’s waking up…” I whispered, my voice laced with disbelief. His face was scrunched up in pain and slowly, his eyes opened, squinted, closed, opened, blinked and then opened fully. His expression looked hazy for a little while before he looked at Ashley and then at me, his mouth forming a ‘o’.

“What more can a man want than to see two beautiful girls when he wakes up?”

I wanted to throw my arms around him and cry like there was no tomorrow, but at the same time, I wanted to strangle him.

“Ah, damn it, my head feels like it’s exploding…”

Eden’s POV:

I tentatively touched Luke’s cheeks, tears gathering at the corner of my eyes.

“You’re awake…” I whispered. “How are you feeling? Do we need to call a doctor?”

Lucas only cracked a smile.

“Someone call the doctor,” he said cheekily, making me laugh. Then his eyes twisted in worry as he looked at both me and Ashley. “How long have I been out? How long have you guys been here?”

“One day and a half,” I answered quietly. “You’ve been unconscious for one day and a half. Anyway, what matters is that you’re awake. I’ll go call a doctor. You both catch up, okay?”

Despite him being my brother, I wanted Ashley to be the one to spend some time with him. She was his girlfriend. She deserved some alone time with her boyfriend.

I wiped my eyes quickly before walking out of the room, whipping out my phone to quickly, but shakily, call my parents and tell them Luke was awake.

Lucas’s POV:

I winced as Ashley pressed her lips against mine, the bruise on the corner of my mouth aching.

“Easy there, princess,” I hissed in pain before taking a deep breath and reaching out to rub my girlfriend’s head as best as I could. “I’ll be careful next time. I won’t make you worry again. All right? You don’t have to worry about me anymore.”

Eden’s POV:

I didn’t answer at first, only walking closer to Sterling, linking our fingers together before I stopped abruptly.

Everything came crashing down—my exhaustion, the nausea, the relief at Lucas waking up and being his stupid, carefree self and being okay. I slapped a hand over my mouth, squeezing my eyes shut.

“Bathroom,” I managed to whisper, feeling my insides squeeze and lurch. I needed to go to the bathroom. Now.
