Sherlock Holmes and the Whore (o/o) (mature themes lads, steer clear if lots of gore isn’t your speed.)

There’s a new Jack the Ripper in town, lads. Someone with even more gruesome and practiced methods, only ever seen in works like Madame Shelley’s or Mister Stoker’s. Hookers being killed in the night and sometimes even in broad daylight, sometimes found still screaming in alleyways with their organs strewn around their necks like hanged men. The people have taken to calling this one “The Unsolvable Crime” as even London’s greatest detective has had trouble solving it, Sherlock Holmes (my character) himself. But when a prostitute (your character) comes to his door begging for vengeance after her younger sister of the same profession is found murdered and hung by her intestines on a clothesline. He agrees and enlists her help to bring this killer to justice once and for all. After all, help from the inside is always the best kind of help.

Anyways this isn’t really a romance so don’t go in expecting our characters will end up together. More a body horror and possible cosmic horror murder mystery. No smut exactly but trigger warnings for mature and explicit and violent generally content all around. Have fun! I’ll post a template when someone joins.

Name: Sherlock Holmes
Age: 43 (your character should probably be a couple decades younger or maybe more, but do what you want!)
Gender/Pronouns: Trans man, he/him (nobody but his trusted friend and confidant and possibly lover John Watson knows he’s trans, and master of disguise that he is, your character probably won’t be able to pick up on that.)
Orientation: Asexual biromantic
Personality: Intelligent, obviously, but it actually plays out as very subtle intelligence when he’s trying to puzzle something out. Basically he doesn’t flaunt his smarts and is always looking through the subtleties and into the bigger fabric of the mystery. He’s always observing things, trying to figure out the story behind something and anything he looks at, really. After all, you never know someone truly until you know their story. Also, he’s eccentric enough to be seen as such, but affable enough that he can get away with a loooot of weird shit.
Flaws: His bank of knowledge only expands if it has to do with whatever case he’s currently working on. And he’ll forget things constantly if they’re not relevant to his cases, such as the time of day or what he ate for lunch. He also comes off as a bit arrogant due to a lack of social skills, and is the classic feral angry “hurt my buddies and I hurt you” trans guy.
Appearance: Tall, like, 6’0” solidly tall. Dark hair in a short but stylish cut that fits his angular and sharp face perfectly. Dark eyes as well, and pale skin that almost looks like a haunted moon. He’s stylishly consumptive, and lanky but with enough lean muscle that he can hold his own in a fight. He’s actually quite handsome, and looks about a decade younger than he actually is.
Outfit: A simple shirt, waistcoat, pants, and pocketwatch.
Backstory?: To be revealed, lol.

Other?: He keeps a greenhouse, and will drink tea but prefers coffee but prefers a good dose of morphine or really any other opiate above all else. Very self destructive and will put himself in danger if it means saving the people he cares about.

(Not to rush or anything but what ideas do you have in mind for your character? I wanna figure out our dudes’ dynamic before I start setting up the plot.)

Watson was the one to suggest it. That Holmes would work with a prostitute until the case was solved. He could get valuable information about the murders, and at the same time have someone watching his back besides the doctor himself.

Sherlock obviously shot that idea down. The things it would do to his reputation were not of great concern, but he had his suspicions that it wouldn’t help his asylum-bent case. Ultimately, it would be hard to find someone in that situation that would be willing to put herself in danger for the sake of solving the case. And, he wouldn’t want to put an innocent woman in danger no matter what her profession.

But one night, as the two lay sound in bed, there was a tapping on the door. Of course, it had to be a wailing citizen. Sherlock didn’t know if he actually wanted to answer to the call, what with how useless of a detective he was being so far. His reputation-again, not a main concern, but still, things hurt-would be in further jeopardy if he was found unable to solve another aspect of the case. Either way, he had to. He got up from the bed he and his good “friend”, Watson, shared. The other man murmured something to him, groping for a hand and catching onto a finger. “Hmm, another case?” the man asked, and Sherlock nodded to him in the dark as he let their fingers slip away from each other.

Sherlock left John in bed and went to the door. If anyone could help, it was him. Right? Maybe not. Anyways, if he was expecting anyone… he hadn’t expected her at his doorstep.

“How may I help you at this hour, ma’am?” he asked, his soft spoken tenor voice drifting from his mouth to her ears.

Sherlock took a minute to process. So this person was assumed male. Killed, killed this poor girl’s sister. Strung up by her insides, that sounded dreadfully familiar. “Ma’am, I apologize but I’ll need you to come inside. You’ll need to give me your name and tell your full story, I can’t work on so few details.” she had scars peeking out of her dress by the shoulders, so she probably had a rough start in life. And by the way she dressed, was likely working as a hooker. A crude way to put it, but she was pretty and reasonably young and looked desperate for money. “I’m so sorry your sister was… murdered, I can’t put it any more lightly though.”

He stepped to the side and realized he looked rather informal, in nightclothes that barely fit. At least he hadn’t taken off his chest bindings, he usually did at night but the way it made him feel to know his chest was protruding from his nightclothes even though John swore it didn’t bother him… it was discomforting. Anyways, the poor girl was likely freezing without a coat, so Sherlock ushered her inside without so much as a warning, and closed the door gently behind them. He quickly made to light some lamps and add more wood to the stove, so the house could keep a bit warmed than it was and be a bit more comfortable for his impromptu guest.

Sherlock noticed the location she was sitting in, filed it away for later. “I’m sorry that I can’t get us back to the actual crime scene, but the police will likely have made it there already and by then we won’t be able to do anything as they’ll already be cleaning it up.” he sighed.

“We’ll need to wait until morning to do anything. Now, as for what I need to know… tell me what happened as to your discovery of the murder. What were you doing beforehand, all the way to the aftermath of you being here?” he mostly needed this information to disqualify Diana as a suspect, but also so that he could get a good understanding of the actual crime committed and be able to line it up with the facts he already knew.

Sherlock nodded as the woman spoke. His suspicions were correct, she was a prostitute. The story seemed to line up well, but he needed a bit more to make an alibi. “And what time did all of this go down? An hour ago? Mere minutes? A day? And how did you make your way over here?” he could tell she had walked, but getting all the facts was useful in these cases.

“A strong vocabulary and temper, then.” he said, a smile lighting up his usually gallows-bent expression. “I’d recommend against such foul language in the presence of police officers.” he said, tone turning gravely serious once more. “Look, I want to help you. But in order to help, I’ll need communication. Cooperation. And most importantly, I’ll need you to be watching for any other crimes that seem a bit too off for London’s general scene.” he said, crouching down beside Diana. “I’ll also need your name. Your real name, preferably.” dammit, maybe old Watson was right. He would need the help from someone on the inside.

Sherlock could almost laugh. Almost. “I don’t ask questions like that for fun and games, you know.” he said. “I need to hear you give your alibi, in your own words. That way when the police come knocking I’ll be able to give them your words and not my petty assumptions. And I don’t claim to be the smartest man alive. All I claim is an alliance with those who need help, regardless of situation.”

“Now, Diana, if you want me on your side you’re genuinely going to need to listen more than you talk. Alright?” he asked, a bit less than calm but not irritated in the slightest. He seemed legitimately interested in her and her case, for whatever reason that was.
