"It's part of life," he murmured. "Especially the life of a warrior. Battles, war, sacrifice, that's what most of it is. It hurts, I know, but that's just life."
"Shhh... it will be okay..." //OxO, CLOSED//
"Well it's wrong. No one should have to be in this much pain." He rubbed his hands together once he felt how hot the wound was, warming up his magic. He gently placed his hands above the cut, letting the cold wash over Kade.
Kade sucked in a breath, but made no other noise. "You're right. They shouldn't. But that's what happens. So all we can do is protect others, to bear the brunt of it so they don't have to."
The small male nodded a little in agreement, though his attention was now fully focused on the wound so he didn’t reply. Once he was happy the wound had cooled, he grabbed a needle and thread, beginning to stitch up the wound.
Kade looked down at his wound, the simple motion of his head sending shooting pains through him. Jack had made the wound cool, to numb the pain, but it didn't help the inside. It was feeling better than if he had done it himself.
There wasn’t much else Jack could do for the pain. Apart from trying to find some painkillers or something to help ward off infection. He made sure the wound was probably stitched up before he grabbed the bandage, slowly starting to wrap it round Kade’s middle to secure it.
"You should have been a healer," Kade chuckled. "Where did you learn to do things like this?"
Jack opened is mouth to reply before he shut it, “I.. If I wanted to live then I had to learn. Practice and lots of reading.”
"Reading? You read? How ever did you manage to find the time for that?" Kade shook his head. "I haven't read in years."
“When you have books shoved in your face it’s kind of hard not to.” Jack sat back on his heels.
"Books shoved in my face? Yeah, I've never had that happen to me." Kade shook his head. The wound felt better, although every move he made still sent a burst of pain through him. "You should sleep."
Jack shook his head slightly, “No. I’m fine. If anyone needs sleep it’s you.” He said, packing up his things.
"I'll be fine," Kade said, shaking his head. "You've probably been awake longer than I have."
“Kade you’ve been badly injured, you need just as much rest as I do,” He looked up at him, almost pleading, “Please.”
"Fine. Only if you sleep, too," he said, relenting. Only Jack could make him do something like that. Plus, a few hours of rest didn't sound so bad, now that he thought about it.
Jack released a breath, smiling softly, "Thank you." He said quietly, standing up and placing the medical kit on the nearby table.
"Why are you so concerned, anyway?" Kade asked, looking up at Jack, his golden eyes faintly glowing in the dark. "I captured you and forced you to fight a war for my people. I'm going to kill you. You should hate me, not try to save my life."
Jack swallowed, wrapping his arms around his middle with a small shrug, "You saved mine. Why can't I return the favor?"
"When? When did I ever save you?" He rubbed his eyes, grimacing. "I have never saved your life before."
Jack rolled his eyes, "So you're just gonna ignore the fact you could have let me die in that burning room," He shook his head and turned away, "I don't know why I even bother…"
"Well, it is my duty to keep all of the inhabitants of this building alive," Kade said with a shrug. "I don't know why you even bother either." The movement sent a burst of pain through his wound, and he pursed his lips, biting back a hiss of pain.
"Why have you got to be such an ass all the time? Just for once could you try and be nice or just kill me for fuck's sake! That's what you want anyway but you've been saying you want to savor it or whatever but you've been saying it for weeks now. Just.. just get it over and done with.. please.." Jack looked over his shoulder, trying to keep some composer but failing.
Kade raised an eyebrow. It was weird to see Jack not composed, so vulnerable. It was almost disconcerting. He pursed his lips. "Are you really that desperate to die?" He asked in a calmer voice.
“I can’t live like this Kade. I’d rather die then live in isolation with no one and with a man who can’t keep his promise to kill me.” He said quietly.
"I can keep my promise," Kade said, crossing his arms. "Isn't there anyone you want to go home to? Anyone you actually hold dear to you? There's more to life than emptiness."
Jack shook his head, resting against the back of a couch, “I don’t have anyone Kade. I don’t have a family, or a lover, or a best friend. I don’t even have a purpose anymore now that I’m stuck here. How’s that any different front death?”
"Well, if you're that desperate for death, why haven't you killed yourself already?" He asked, sounding mildly curious, and also a bit judgemental, and maybe a bit… sympathetic? But no. Kade was never sympathetic, ever…
Jack snorted, "You think I haven't tried? But if you say you're going to kill me why bother trying again." He glanced towards Kade before he shrugged, a look in his eyes making him look almost hollow.
"Then why haven't you succeeded?" He asked, voice a bit more snappish than he meant to. "If you hate life so much, why haven't you tried harder to die?"
“I have!” Jack shouted, “I’ve tried over and over and over and someone or something gets in the fucking way. A co-worker, a random person on a hunt in the woods, the fucking prince of my own kingdom,” He wiped at his eyes, “I just can’t win.”
