With an excited squeal, Avi walked into the crowded hotel, dragging her suitcase behind her. Her skirt fluttered behind her in the warm wind.
She walked into the courtyard, scanning the area for the receptionist.
Gemma glanced up from her phone, scratching her arm - a habit that showed she was nervous without having to express it in other ways. How peppy, she thought.

As soon as she spotted, Avi approached the desk, gaze swivelling around the decorated front hall. Distracted by the lighting fixtures, Avi didn't see the tall girl she was heading straight for.

Gemma stumbled back as the girl bumped into her. “Ow…” she murmured, glancing up. “Excuse you?”

Avi rammed into a woman. "Excuse you?" she said.
Avi stepped back, a cautious smile on her face. "My apologies, miss. I was distracted."
Gemma stood, studying the peppy girl. “It’s..it’s fine. I’m Gemma.” She shrugged.
Avi, still grinning, stuck out her hand. "Call me Avi."
Gemma took it and shook it, smiling a little. “You’re staying tonight?”
"I am!" Avi said brightly. "For a month, actually. Doing some research," she explained, studying Gemma from head to toe. "How about you?"
“Well, I’m-“ Gemma studied Avi, thinking she was kind of cute. “I’m staying here for a couple weeks, might stay longer. My dads on a fishing trip, and he said I could stick around.”
"Neat." She nodded towards the desk, holding Gemma's gaze. "Shall we check in?"
“It’s what I was thinking.” Gemma smiled and walked with Avi up to the desk.
Glancing at Gemma at the station next to hers. "Good afternoon," she told the man at the desk, looking over at him. "I have a reservation for Aviana Kuragin, please."
Aviana. Nice name. Gemma waited until Avi was done, then stepped forward and booked a room for herself. “Room, please. You can book it under Gemma.”
Tucking the key into her pocket, Avi turned to wait for Gemma. "What floor?" she asked curiously.
“Three. You?” She turned to Avi with a small smile.
