"Cool." Rockwell, seeing that Vash wasn't exactly going to return the handshake, stuck his hand in his pocket. "And- uh, yeah, I guess you could say that. But please just call me Rocky." He repeated, moving so that he was crouching on the cubby. "It's my.. geez, eighth..? Year here?"
Summer Camp Supernaturality // OxO // CLOSED! // MATURE
"Good golly," Vash muttered more to herself then to Rocky. Eight years. she couldn't even begin to fathom the thought of ever coming back. Unless of course she was forced, much like how her current visit was. "Must be a good camp then." Really she was just looking for a way to keep their conversation going. Letting awkward silence fall wasn't really her thing. "Unless your parents are shipping you off here every year?"
Rocky nodded. "I think it's good." He pulled a loose thread on his shorts. "Nah, nah, they wouldn't send me here if I didn't wanna go. This place is cool, yeah, they have a bunch of urban legends and stuff connected to this, but I guess you've already heard all that, right?"
"Urban legends?" Vash raised an eyebrow. Her interests piqued. If there was some kind of legend, perhaps the summer wouldn't be as bad as she thought it was going to be. "I haven't heard any of that yet."
"Wow. That's like– the only reason out-of-towners come here, I'm surprised you didn't know." Rocky laughed slightly. "But- uh- yeah, apparently there's this cryptid- The Barklett Beast- that takes campers and idiots in the woods. Pretty sure he eats them most of the time, but some people come back into town three days after goin' missin' ramblin' on and on about a werewolf in the woods here." His Tennessee accent came out thick as he talked, thicker than normal. Maybe it was because he was talking faster than usual.
"My step dad used to come, he never mentioned any of that." Vash seemed to be talking more to herself then to Rocky. A grin slowly came to her face, and just then a positively stupid idea popped into Vash carter Admas' head. "Have you ever looked for it?" Surely someone who had been so many times had at least tried once. Legend of not, she wanted to put it to the test.
"Are you kiddin'?" Rocky laughed. "I'm not trying to die!" He shook his head. "No, I mean- I've thought about it, but I'm not going alone. No way." He snorted. "I'd get torn apart by that thing, are you crazy? Have you seen me?" He beckoned to himself. He was a stick. Definitely wouldn't be able to hold up in a fight against any monsters.
"So you'd be willing to go if someone went with you." Vash couldn't help the mischief that slipped into her voice. If worse came to worse, and the legend was true, she'd at least have a good laugh about it in the afterlife. In all seriousness though, Vash was curious. "Say I was willing to embark on this dangerous quest. Would ya' go?"
"…I mean.. I guess I would..?" Rocky admitted, growing suspicious of Vash's response. Especially her tone. He blinked in surprised, clearly taken aback by the question. After all, he just met Vash. And now she was asking him to hunt a reportedly deadly beast with her. His answer was near immediate. "Yeah. I'd go."
(Heads up I'm gonna be super spotty for the next few months)
"You're crazy," Vash laughed. No matter how curious she might be, trusting a complete stranger wasn't necessarily smart, and she wasn't that stupid. "I've got siblings I have to get home to at the end of this summer. Other wise I'd totally be willing." Of course she still wanted to check it out- she would probably find a time to slip away the next day. It was just a legend, why would she need to be afraid to see it on her own?
(that's no problem, but thanks for the heads up!)
"Fair enough, I guess." Rocky shrugged. "I mean- I got siblin's too, and I'd still do it." Now that Vash had brought up the idea, Rocky was latched onto it and wouldn't let go. "Something might happen this year. I'd go then." He thought forward to the campfire that night. Subconsciously he knew nothing would happen, but there was always that hope that sometning would.
Vash narrowed her eyes. Her crappy mood from before having completely disappeared. "Oh?" Using her sibling as an excuse had been the goal but- "that sounds a bit like a challenge." Maybe she was stupid. "Say what, I'll check it out with you if something dose happen." She'd have to trust him eventually. They where in the same cabin after all.
(i'm so sorry i never responded to this! i could've sworn i did, my bad!)
Rocky nodded, his hands resting on their respective shoulders. "That sounds like a plan, don't it?" He moved to sit with his knees drawn up to his chest, chin resting lightly on top. "I dunno if anythin'll actually go down, though. It's not every year some poor kid gets snatched up."
(You're all good!)
Vash couldn't help the small grin, and look of excitement that jumped to her face. The idea of being a camp that had lore wrapped around it- even if it wasn't widely known- excited her. "Well I guess we'll just have to wait nd' see."
