A human leaves the Iron Court, the realm of mortals, on a dare, and enters the realm of the Fae. They are soon captured by the mysterious Copper Court, who rule the Fae, and are told that, to earn their freedom, they must serve as a spy for the heir to the throne.
I’m open to playing either the heir or the human, and you can participate as any gender or sexuality! This is a story concept I want to flesh out and I’d love to hear any ideas you bring to the table.

Name: Cedar Autumnus
Age: about 200 years old, give or take
Gender: Cedar doesn’t like to limit themself with things like gender
Sexuality: Anyone and everyone
Appearance: Waist length ginger hair with an abundance of freckles, pale brown eyes and an upturned nose. Has two elegant moth wings that drape down their back, and usually wears light, flowing garments that are casual and comfortable, like Fae sweatpants.
Likes and Dislikes: Likes cool fall nights, sleeping, playing mind games and messing with people, hot drinks, and gossip. Dislikes frogs, being left out, revealing their true self, and being manipulated.
Backstory (significant life events): Cedar projects the illusion of a relaxed, oblivious fairy who doesn’t pay much attention to the world around them. In actuality, they have a cunning mind for politics, and are working to create a spy network for their future kingdom. They use their persona to deflect suspicion and few people know the real Cedar.

Age: 22
Gender: Male
Sexuality: Ambiguously queer (Doesn't like labels but also has a history with men, women, and the people in between)
Appearance: Warm skin a few shades lighter than black, brown eyes so light they're almost gold, and a constant easygoing smile. He's built like a dancer, tall and lean with a strange aura of grace hovering around him. His black hair falls in elaborate braids down his back, usually pulled back into a loose ponytail.
Likes and Dislikes: He's a big fan of philosophy and a real people person. He oozes charisma and adores talking. Music is a constant comfort, as are plays and classic movies. He's slightly pretentious but so approachable you can almost forgive it. He hates dogs (especially big ones), dislikes coffee and being talked down to, and will probably kill you if you take advantage of him.
Backstory (significant life events): He comes from a prosperous royal family brought down by a snitch and a few backstabbing uncles. He's always harbored a grudge, but with nowhere else to go he was forced to watch his whole world crumble as bad rulership drove the kingdom to its knees. He left quickly thereafter, hopping from place to place and using his wits and his persuasiveness to stay in relatively good circumstances. That wasn't going to last. He fell in with a bad crowd and got forced out into fae territory, and that's where our story picks up.

Cedar lounged on their throne, watching the late afternoon light stream in through the stained glass windows. They absentmindedly started to plait a lock of their hair as a fairy knelt before their mother’s throne. The queen sat next to them on a throne much bigger and more ornate than their own, and she waved her hand to allow the fairy to speak. “Your majesty, a human has been captured in the forest just outside the palace gates. Shall we bring it to you, your grace?” The queen nodded, and Cedar perked up instantly. A human outside of the Iron Court? This was might be the opportunity that they had been looking for, but first, they had to meet this human. They settled back in their chair, intrigued.
Sebastian had been picking carefully through the woods when he saw them. The faries. He'd only been scavenging for food- his latest mark far less tolerant of him then he'd hoped- when they saw him. He tried to back away slowly only to be surrounded and taken… somewhere. It was all a blur of limbs and wings and pointy fairy laughter. All he was aware of now was the rough rope around his wrists and the blindfold around his eyes. They were walking, he didn't know which direction, and only the ache of his feet let him know how long it had been. His throat burned for a sip of water.
Cedar watched as the human was shoved roughly into the throne room by a few of the guard fairies. It’s eyes were covered by a thick blindfold, and Cedar was struck by just how small the human looked without the familiar sight of wings. They tried their hardest to look uninterested as the human was forced to it’s knees. “May we please have your name?” the fairy queen crooned in a sickly sweet voice.
(With these fairies, giving them your real name lets them control you to a certain extent, but not so much that I’d be taking over your character, lol. Sebastian would have free will, but fairies could order him to do tasks or tell the truth. He could find loopholes in the words they use, though, to disobey. Do you want him to give up his true name or not? I’m fine with either, I just wanted you to know what it would mean if he told them his name)
(Would just giving his first name have the same effect? Because I get that they could control him if they had all his names [first middle and last] but would it work as well if he only said 'you can call me Sebastian' or something.)
(I think it would work like partially? Like they can’t make him do really big tasks or anything against his moral code, and he can definitely find ways to avoid doing the tasks. Maybe his ability to lie would be leased in front of a fairy, like, he finds it more difficult to say false words, but they can’t force him to tell the truth? What do you think?)

Sebastian straightened as best he could when he heard the woman's voice. She was used to having power, which meant he wasn't out in the woods anymore. He'd been brought to her, so… maybe she was a lady? A countess? He didn't know much about fae royalty. The hands pressing into his shoulders tightened and he said, voice hoarse, "No, but you may call me Sebastian if you please."
The fae were elusive, sure, but they didn't mean rumors about them weren't spread around the iron courts like any other gossip. Sebastian knew the basic rules. Never exactly lie or tell the truth, never give your full name, never eat or drink if you can't guarantee the food is safe.
The queen let out a little sigh. “Not quite the answer we were looking for, but an acceptable one all the same.” She gestured to Cedar, permitting them to speak, and they shifted in their chair. “Why are you here?” they asked in a bored tone, fiddling with their fingernails. “Your kind has your lands, and we have ours, you know.” Cedar was genuinely curious about why the human was in the Copper Court, but they didn’t show it.
Sebastian took in the new voice: younger, though not by much- a younger sibling maybe? Or a parent?- and less sweet. More down to earth, or else less cruel. It was hard for him to tell, his head was starting to spin. He should probably get some water at some point, or he was going to collapse. "We have our lands, that is true, but they are… improsperous. The forests here are rich with game, I was forced to hunt by my… sponsor." He wasn't sure what Mr. Okoye was to him, but it was somewhere between wealthy patron and abusive father.
“That sounds like a you problem, hun,” Cedar drawled, amused. “You aren’t supposed to be here, and for that, there will be… consequences.” They gracefully slipped off their throne and glided down in front of the human. Gently, they slipped the blindfold off of the human’s face.
Sebastian steeled himself as fingers brushed over his skin, but to his surprise, they merely removed the blindfold. The person standing before him was beautiful, young, and… practiced. Not what Sebastian had been expecting of a fairy at all. The woman behind them fit the bill more accurately, cold and beautiful on an ornate throne. Maybe the person's mother? Their older sibling? Fairy age was strange. "I am aware. May I ask what will be done, or is leaving me in suspense of more amusement to you?"
Cedar leaned in close. “You know, you make a good point. Not telling you is funnier,” they murmured softly in Sebastian’s ear. “But you should know better than to talk that way to people who hold your life in their hands. Do you have a death wish, Sebastian? I’m curious.” They backed away and turned to the queen. “Mother, do you want me to punish the human? Or will you? I really want to do it though,” Their voice had changed from when they were whispering to Sebastian, now sounding more like a petulant teen then fairy royalty.
Sebastian had been through enough to repress the shiver that threatened as the fairy whispered in his ear, but he was still shaken. He had underestimated them, thought their youth would be a weakness. Hand;t people done the same to him enough times for him to recognize how foolish it was? His eyes tracked the fairy as they moved, noting the voice change. Their relationship with the other woman. The act they were throwing up. He refused to bow his head, even as one of the guards pushed warningly on his neck.
“Do whatever you like, child,” the queen said dismissively. “I have more important things to do then deal with petty humans. Perhaps you’ll understand when you’re older.” With that, she stood up from her throne and unfurled enormous wings like those of a monarch butterfly. She shot straight up in the air and soared away, leaving only Cedar, Sebastian, and the guards in the throne room. Cedar’s face split into a wicked grin. “Wonderful..” they purred, turning back to Sebastian. “This is sure to be plenty of fun.”
Sebastian met his gaze unflinchingly, even as the last thread of hope died in his stomach. He'd been hearing about the cruelty of the fae for most of his life, how lucky for him that he'd finally get to experience it first hand. He forced a smile to his lips, cold and empty and sharp enough to rival the fairy in front of him. "I'm sure it will be."
“Alrighty then!” Cedar exclaimed with a clap of their hands. “First order of business. This whole thing -“ they waved their hand at Sebastian. “- is simply not going to work. Humans have gotten so cheap these days - though I bet I can do something with those cheekbones. But…” They grabbed Sebastian around the waist and with a flap of their powerful wings, flew upwards to a small balcony overlooking the throne room. “I’d like it to be a bit more private,” Cedar finished.
