The Laughing Peaks // Fantasy OxO // Open!

The Laughing Peaks are a series of mountains in the Venear mountain range, running from north to south Duggan. The name stems from the way that wind whistles through the mountains and the valley below, sounding suspiciously like the jeering laugh of a wind spirit.

Gravemner, a trading town located in this valley (and creeping up the mountains) is well-known throughout Odeos and beyond for its fur-trapping and animal agriculture. The local population is fairly substantial, but a lot of the economy is powered by trading and travelers passings through.

Hey! I’ve been forming this idea for a while now, and I think it’s fairly ready to be put to use! If you can’t tell, I get really, really into worldbuilding, and I’m hoping that I can use some of that in this rp!

Just to set up some expectations:

• Look- a romance would be nice, I’d prefer gay, but I can possibly work with straight.
• There are times when I like to get * very* in depth! Please don’t feel pressured to match that, although it wouldn’t hurt if you do.
• I’m a-okay with excessive swearing, gore, and most everything else! Unsure if you can do something? Ask!
• You don’t have to be on 24/7, but please be active! I‘d hate to see this die! If you lose interest, just tell me. I’d rather that then be continuously ghosted.
• I won’t crucify you over a spelling or punctuation error, but please try to have solid writing! I may ask for some samples if I’m not familiar with your style.
• My standard template is incredibly in depth. I’ll post it if anyone’s interested, but she’s a beast!

Sucker for anything shiny. Would be very into goblincore if tumblr existed in this universe. Here for the simpler pleasures in life.

That evening’s weather was nothing short of gloomy. Drizzling rain, stifling humidity, and an odd chill all mingled together in the near-spring air.

And Florence was exhausted. His hands were sore, his back hurt, and the only thing he could think about was stopping into the Rusty Nail for a drink. As he entered the tavern, he was hit with a comforting wave of homeyness that settled into the cramped space like a blanket of warmth. He ordered a drink, taking a seat at one of the open tables in the tavern.

Orion was holding court two tables down from him, looking like a punch in the face come to life. He was strumming his lute, singing a rowdy drinking song with the other patrons of the tavern, head tossed back and laughter in his smile. There was half a glass of mead by his side, the same warm gold as his eyes. He'd gotten back to town just this afternoon.

He lit up when he saw Florence enter, offering him a gaudy wink while he finished up the song. "Alright folks, this next one's dedicated to that fine looking farmhand sitting over there! Here's to you babe!" He lifted his mead at Florence in a cheerful toast.

Florence took a fast sip of his own mead, ducking his head away at Orion’s call. He could feel a slight tinge of red burn on his cheeks, because Gods, why did he have to single me out today? He ran his fingers through the large, messy bun tied back on his head. He looked back up after a few moments, studying the bard. His voice is beautiful.. and his playing. Florence studied the bard’s appearance. He chuckled a bit as he listened to Orion, head tilted and resting on his hand.

“You play well!” Florence called out near the end of Orion’s song. He took another sip off of his mead, head still cocked.

Orion had chosen a particularly sappy love ballad, something that mentioned a black eyed beauty as many times as possible because honestly, that human had the loveliest eyes he'd ever seen. To be honest, he had the loveliest everything he'd ever seen, with his cheekbones and his bun and his gorgeous little blush. Orion could write ballads all their own about him and still come away with material to spare.

"It is how I make my living, beautiful!" He meandered over with his most charming smile, hoping this one wasn't the sort who startled at fangs and horns and tails as he plopped down beside him. "We can all be paid to stand around looking pretty."

“Of course not.” Florence studied the tiefling sitting beside him. “Are you like this with everyone?” He gestured to Orion, then to himself. “This charming, I mean.” A tiny laugh followed his question.

Outside, rain trickled down, hitting the cobbled streets with a soft pitter-patter. Florence’s eyes trailed out the tavern’s frosted windows for a moment, but his attention returned to Orion as he awaited his response.

Orion's grin widened— the human thought he was charming!!!—and he laughed. His eyes were fixed firmly on Florence's face, taking in every detail with eager excitement. "Only to the beautiful ones," he said, after waiting a few seconds to draw out the tension. "And you, darling, are nothing if not beautiful, so I'll have to be quite charming indeed."

Florence’s smile grew as he watched Orion’s face change. “The beautiful ones, eh?” He laughed. “You’re nothing short of gorgeous either, you know.” Florence purred, brushing a stray lock of dark hair behind his ear. “If I’m ‘darling’, you’re stunning.” His smile was still more coy than Orion’s by a long shot, and his face was still tinged with blush, but he seemed more open already. “What’s your name, then?”

Orion was nothing short of delighted. Now he was gorgeous, and stunning too, and the human had a smile like a sunset, bright and warm and beautiful. His skin hid the blush dusting his cheeks but they were sitting close enough that Florence could spot the red behind the lavender if he really tried. Orion hoped he cared enough to try. "I'm Orion of Kallifax. Friends call me Ori." He held out his hand for the human to shake. "What's yours, pretty boy?"

“Pretty boy? You sure are laying it on thick, Orion, but I’ll take it.” Florence chuckled, taking Orion’s offer and shaking his hand. “I’m Florence Brosnear, of the cowhand Brosnears.” He studied Orion’s face just a little closer, noticing the tinge of blush on his lilac skin. “Did I say something to make you blush?”
