The Lost Island // O/O // Closed

You're an explorer– at least, you were. Unfortunately, the ship you were taking across the ocean was caught in a storm and sank. You wake up on the beach of a tropical island– alone. While exploring and searching for other people, you find a large, old stone wall surrounding the middle of the island. There's no door and absolutely no way to climb the wall. While looking for a way to get past the wall, you run across a cave half-hidden by bushes, filled with crumbling, life-sized statues. At the very back, you find a very well-preserved statue of a person with a crown. Written on the pedestal of the statue is a name. You whisper the name which, much to your surprise, releases the person trapped inside the statue. As it turns out, they know what lies behind the wall.

The island was beautiful. It looked like paradise, at least from the outside. Soft, white sand beaches ran around almost the entire circumstance of the island and the water was a clear turquoise color. The air was warm and the breeze smelled like the sea and sunshine. Birds sang in the palm trees– all but one. This bird looked no different from the others appearance-wise, but its demeanor set it apart. There was something human in the way that it looked around. A spark of intelligence too great for a mere bird glittered in its eye. If one has the gift of spirit sight, one could find the reason for it. A shining string, invisible to most people, ran from the bird deeper into the island. Beyond the sun-soaked sand and gently swaying palm trees, the facade of paradise melted away to reveal something darker. Vines tangled with the string, bushes and thorns blocked the way. The string led into a damp cave, the entrance half blocked by greenery. Shining brighter in the dim light, the string wove its way around stone and leaves, finally ending at the foot of a statue. The statue was watching, waiting patiently for a visitor to arrive. Maybe, if the statue was lucky, the newcomer would brave the jungle and find the cave. And then birds and lizards would be needed no longer. He would walk on his own two feet and see with his own eyes. But for now, he made do with feathers and dreams.

The air was warm and the breeze smelled like the sea and sunshine. Birds sang in the palm trees. I had crashed here not so long ago but was still stunned by the beauty of the island. I tried looking around but some of the creatures scared me. I don't know what to do or where to go, but I need to get off this island.

The silent bird watched the newcomer, head tilted at a slight angle. Would this person be the one to free him? It didn't look like that would happen at the moment. The person wasn't making any movements towards the cave where his true body was being kept. After all, he was just borrowing the bird. It was the only way to stay sane after all those years trapped in stone. The bird took off and swooped to a spot closer to the newcomer. Would they notice? Would their curiosity take over and lead them towards him? Or would they stay on the beach and never learn the truth of the island?

The inner part of the island gives me the creeps. How can an island covered in so much sand have stone walls taller than the heavens. Most of the animals are just minding their own business, but this one was keeping it's eye on me. It gives me the chills. I need to get off this island and I need to do it fast.

The bird made sure to follow the stranger wherever they went. Would they find the cave? The question made the bird's tiny heart hammer against its ribcage. He'd had this kind of hope before, but it never seemed to be so much. If they didn't set him free… It would take a long time to recover from such disappointment. Please, He thought, find the cave. Set me free!
