The Night Is Rising // O/O // Closed

"Cool." Laurel nodded, glad Ana had said no. Even though there would be no people around to see her, she still would have felt rediculous wearing a mask. "Um… given that I don't even know what that means, I'm going to go with no?" She gave Ana an apologetic look. If only she had actually gotten ready for anything instead of just reading books about this sort of thing happening.

Ana laughed slightly. "It's fine. I don't really know either. I may have prepared for an apocalypse, but nothing this extreme. I hate to say it, but I'm a rule follower sometimes." She grinned in self-mock. "I know how to pick locks, though." She glanced at the GPS. "We're about 30 minutes away."

"Well, it was more than me. I only read books." Laurel said. "And they were fiction, too, so…" She shrugged. "Well, being a rule-follower can be good sometimes. Just, not during the end of days." She laughed and gently patted Ana's shoulder. "Well, that will probably be a good skill to have." Laurel nodded in response to Ana's last remark.

"Probably." Ana shrugged. "I am a master of loopholes, though."
"So," she said, turning to Laurel, although she kept her eyes on the road. "Do you have a family that might need notifying?"

"Ha, that's good." Laurel nodded. Ana's next question caught her off-guard. She hadn't given her mother one thought during this entire thing… what kind of daughter was she? "I… well, my mom, I guess. She's at home, most likely. I hope she's at home." Laurel frowned, biting her lip. If her mom was at home, then she would probably be fine. She didn't really want to get her caught up in all this supernatural stuff with the weapons and Alina, though.

"Do you want to talk to her?" Ana asked. Laurel seemed worried and hesitant. "Because you could do that, if you wanted. That way you can at least see if she's okay."

"I, uh, I don't know. She might freak out a bit if she knew I was out in all this," Laurel said slowly. But she really should call her mom or something. "I'll just text to her tell her that I'm alive." Laurel pulled her phone out of her pocket and unlocked it. She sent a quick text, then shut her phone off and shoved it back into her pocket.

"Okay." Ana shook her head and sighed. "Why were we the ones to be chosen? Why not anyone else? Why are we chosen?" She was annoyed. Annoyed that she had been pulled from her life and into this mess. Why did she have to be one of the ones to help save the world?

"I have no freaking clue." Laurel shook her head. "Maybe it was a really weird lottery and we won?" She shrugged slightly. Laurel wasn't exactly opposed to the idea of being the savior, or whatever, but she really wished she was more like the saviors in the books. And she wished there wasn't such a real danger of dying. "I'm just glad I got chosen with someone who kinda knows what to do." Laurel grinned playfully at Ana, trying to lighten the mood. "And you're not terrible, so that's a plus."

"I feel offended at that," Ana sad, but she returned the grin. "I am horrible. It hurts me that you'd call me anything else." She fingered the knives. "Although, the weapons are pretty cool," she admitted. "What I want is for this to just be a vr game. We can login and out whenever we want." She sighed wistfully. "That would be nice."

"Hmm," Laurel smirked at Ana. "I haven't really seen anything to back up your 'I am horrible' claim." She glanced at the knives and nodded. "They are pretty, and they do the job. It really would be nice to not have the fear that we might actually die. If this were a game, I would totally play it." Laurel sighed softly. "Especially a VR one. That seems like it would really be fun."

"Shh. Don't ruin my moment." Ana returned Laurel's grin.

"It would be nice. To not be afraid that one misstep and everyone dies. I still half don't believe this, nor do I really understand what's happening very much. This is all so confusing."

(Ha, okay!)
Laurel made a teasing face at Ana, somehow feeling okay despite everything that was happening. "It would," she agreed, nodding enthusiastically. "And it really is. I'd love to have that book that Endor might have been reading out of when she told us that story. Maybe we could figure out some more stuff about all of this." Laurel waved at the scenery around them.

(Seriously, I leave for 2 hours and come back and there are 23 roleplays to respond to when I get back! XD this is one of my favorites, though.)

"And maybe everything would make more sense, and we could find something that would be a better weapon." Ana shook her head. "I swear, one of them said something about a sword, right?" She couldn't give it up. She knew that there had probably been an answer, but she had forgotten.

(Oh my gods, that's a lot! Ah, this one is pretty fun, I agree.)
"Yeah… should we check the map when we get back to civilization?" Laurel asked. "I really don't know. Maybe there will be an icon of a sword on the map, and we can find it." She really hoped that the map would actually work and that Endor hadn't given them a map that would lead them to nothing.

(Yeah, it is XD. I need to stop joining them, but… I don't want to.)

"I hope so." Ana rubbed her forehead with her free hand. "I think I might be going insane." She shook herself. "When we get to the town, we should probably plug the stuff on the map into the GPS, so we can remember everything, in case the map gets lost or destroyed." She considered. "What if the map gets lost, and someone else finds it?"

(Yeah, I'm kinda the same way. But I think, for now, I've managed to convince myself not to join or start anymore. For now… :)
"Yeah… me too." Laurel shook her head slightly. "Huh, that makes a lot of sense. Good thinking!" She gave Ana a smile. It would be really bad if they lost the map before they'd found the stuff they needed to. "Oh, gods…" Laurel trailed off, her eyebrows creasing as she thought about it. "Maybe they'd just think it was nonsense? Or they'd find the stuff and make everything better… or worse, maybe?" If someone else found it and did their job for them… would that count? But what if that mysterious Shadow King found it? That wouldn't be good.

(I wish I had that willpower! But instead, whenever there's an open one, I join it.)

"Or what if the weird Endor lady is working for the Shadow King? And these places are his lairs? That wouldn't surprise me, to be honest." Ana glanced at Laurel. "There's something strange about the map. How does she know where these things all are? Usually, in books or movies or whatever, the fortress is hidden."

(Ah, yeah, I normally think about joining too long, and by the time I decide yes, someone else has already joined, so… I guess it works!)
"Oh… that wouldn't be good for us." Laurel frowned. If what Ana was proposing was true… would that mean that the weapon didn't exist either? "I don't know. She had magic…?" Laurel shook her head slightly. "If this is where stuff is, it does make our lives easier. And didn't she say those weapons were from another world? Maybe that makes them easier to track or something." She shrugged. "If those places turn out to be the Shadow King's hideouts, then we'll just have to run out of there. And if they aren't, then we could find stuff that could help us."

(I see an open one, and no one has asked to join yet, so what do I do? I join it, like the idiot I am XD. Even if it's not remotely interesting.)

"That's true." Ana sighed, rubbing her head. All this thinking and overthinking and more thinking was getting on her nerves. "I hope she's not a traitor, even if she is annoying."
She frowned. "Why do you think the Shadow King came to earth? Why not somewhere else? This place is really crappy, even in the best of times. If he's going to try and take over, why come here?" She shrugged.

(Oh, dear. I guess that's where my over thinking actually comes in handy for once!)
"Agreed." Laurel nodded. Endor had been a bit annoying, but having her on their side would be really be nice, what with the magic and all. "Uh… Maybe because it's so crappy? Maybe he thought it would be easy to take over? And he's kinda right, so far. No one but us has been doing anything about the monsters situation, at least as far as I've seen." Laurel really hoped the military wouldn't go crazy on the monsters… "I wonder if there are monsters all over the world already, or if they just picked one spot to start?"

(Yeah! It does. I'm a little bit jealous of you, actually…)

"…That's true," Ana realized. "I don't know. Maybe? I only had the dreams about here. And I don't think we can look at the news to see, unless the rest of the world is going on as usual."
She frowned. "Maybe they came here because of the technology? I don't know." She shrugged. "I hope we can find this out soon, and get it over with."

(Hah, thanks? I believe this is the only place over-thinking will come in handy, but hey! At least it's useful for something. Also, sorry for disappearing a bit, I was feeling under the weather. :)
"Yeah…" Laurel frowned. If this was the starting point for the monsters, then that meant that they both had that much more pressure to win on their shoulders. Because they weren't just saving their town and themselves anymore. No, they were saving the world. If the monsters were everywhere, then… a small part of Laurel wondered what the point was. With monsters everywhere, what difference could one small weapon make against them? "That might be. It didn't look like Endor had any sort of tech, and she came from where the monsters came from, right?" She glanced over at Ana and nodded. "I agree."

(It's all good XD. I haven't had the motivation to respond to any roleplays, even my favorites, so I get that…)

"Yeah. Unless they don't care about the technology as much? It seems like magic is very helpful, so why would they need technology?" Ana frowned, then shrugged. "Well, we can ask the Shadow King if we ever see him."
She paused for a long moment. "I wish I had powers," she finally said. "Then I could kill the monsters and go back to eating my popcorn and watching Netflix." She sighed. "Man, I even miss studying."

(Alright, cool!)
"I don't know." Laurel glanced over at Ana, a slight frown on her face. "Well, before we do that, let's make sure we have the weapons Endor and Alina mentioned. Just in case he doesn't like getting asked questions by two humans." She smiled slightly, then nodded. "Oh, yeah. That would really help. Everything you said, except for the studying part, I agree with. Who knows? Maybe we find something that gives us powers while looking for the weapons?" She shrugged, hoping what she'd just said would come true. It would be way quicker to just wipe all the monsters out with magic instead of having to try and learn how to throw knives.

"I sure hope so," Ana sighed, holding the steering wheel loosely in her hands. She turned a corner and hit the gas, sending the car shooting forward. "I would hate if we had to stay this powerless. I mean, the knives are cool and all, but still, I want a little more than two small pieces of metal."
She glanced over at Laurel and grinned. "I think we're totally fit to talk to him, what are you talking about?" She shook her head. "I hate being powerless."

"Agreed." Laurel nodded. In most of the books she'd read, the protagonist always had some sort of secret power. It would be nice to have some powers of their own. "Little bits of metal. They could help… as long as there aren't a billion monsters around." She grimaced slightly. "I mean… yeah. But he might not think the same way, unfortunately. It's his loss, anyway. We're awesome." Laurel grinned at Ana, trying to lighten the mood.

"Which, with our luck, there will probably be trillions." Ana snorted.
"It is his loss. We're awesomely amazing." She grinned. "Is that even a word? Awesomely? I don't know if it is, but it sounds awesome. If it isn't, I'm making it a word, from now on."

"Ha, yeah. Unfortunately." Laurel shook her head. With their luck, they would get surrounded by monsters and have no way out of it… unless they had some sort of magic. "I don't know, but I agree with you. It is a word, and it describes us perfectly." Laurel laughed. "Awesomely awesome."
