The Perfect Version of Us | alternate Cinderella rp, o/o CLOSED

We all know Cinderella. The story has been told thousands and thousands of times. Why not tell it again?
Cinderella has always wanted a break. Her stepfamily is now the only family she has, but to them, she is a mere slave in her own home. She wanted a break from the work, the abuse, from being a man. When it’s announced that the kingdom’s prince will host a ball, Cinderella sees a chance. One night. One night away from the drudgery and pain to have a good time, eat good food, wear a beautiful dress like she always wanted. Despite her stepmother keeping her home with an endless list of tasks, she decides to make herself a dress, put on her stepsister’s makeup, and hitch a carriage ride to the palace.
The prince does not host this ball without an ulterior motive. His kingly father grows older and older everyday, and yet his son is still without a wife or children. His parents beg him to find a suitable bride, and so the prince reluctantly agreed. A ball seemed an excellent way to find one, but the prince was determined to stall a marriage for as long as possible. So he planned to make his marriage a fabrication, a lie, and then to break it down when the time was right.
So he picked the first woman who caught his eye, and danced with her. Cinderella had never danced with someone before, much less with a prince. It was nice, but when he asked her to be his bride, she was reluctant until he elaborated that it wasn’t a real marriage. And she became interested. Why go back to her old life?
But then, the clock struck twelve.

(The wind was cold, the type of cold where when you inhaled and attempted to hold your breath, it physically hurt. It left Sammy with a dull ache in his bones, his hip more than anything. So he succumbed to hobbling along with the pain in his left hip and leg. It was days like this when Sammy wished he had gotten his driver's license like every other kid in school old enough to. When the wind fought against his pale skin and turned it red with the cold.
It had been a stressful month, after the crash everything had been obliterated out of his life. But most importantly he missed Lucy so strongly that he found himself sitting in his bedroom just staring at the wall thinking about her for hours. He missed everything about her, the way she smiled with one side of her mouth, her laugh; which sounded like a melodic note to him, and even the way she used to crack her knuckles when she was nervous.
But most of all, he regretted not holding her more, not telling her how much he loved her constantly, like he found himself wishing he could. And now she was gone. Like a note in the wind her body was no longer there beside him in everything he did and this made him fear the world since he no longer had her by his side.)

Name: Ella Maret (called Cinderella and Charles by her stepfamily)
Age: 20
Gender/pronouns: trans woman, she/her
Sexuality: bisexual
Appearance: Ella is about 5’6 with a sturdy, slightly muscled figure. Her olive complexion has warm undertones, and the skin is a little rough around her fingers and knees. She also has scars, some from her work and some from abuse. She has hazel eyes and dark hair in loose curls. It goes to about her shoulder blades, and is usually tied back with a ribbon.
Personality: Ella is a kind and compassionate individual, who loves helping others. Due to her more isolated life however, it is difficult for her to make connections and keep them with others. She’s smart, too, and loves reading when she can. When she can’t, and needs a break from her work, she’ll often turn to daydreaming about what what it would be like if her father were still alive, or if her stepfamily didn’t treat her so harshly and like a woman. She doesn’t really have a good self image or self esteem, both due to how her stepfamily treats her and gender dysphoria.
Backstory: Ella is the illegitimate child of her late father, a rich merchant, and her mother, a maid. When mother died in childbirth, her father took on the role of caring for her child, despite her illegitimate status. He was a loving father in the few years he cared for her on his own, but he soon married into another noble family to avoid suspicion. Ella was around 6 years old at the time. From the beginning, Ella’s new stepmother rather disliked her. Though she and her stepsisters got along for a while, her stepmother made sure to keep them separated, which soured their relationship. When her father died on a business trip, everything just got worse from there. She was around 9. Even while she was grieving, her family told her she was “the man of the house” now and that she had to step up to take care of everything. Really, they just used this phrase to make her into a slave for them.

Appearance: Gus is tall and slender, with big hands and feet, making him seem almost clumsy when he moves, though he's now able to turn that clumsy look into a natural, slightly confident one. He has strawberry blonde hair, springing up in unruly loose curls that float around his head like a halo. He has a roman nose with a slight bump in the middle. He is pale and freckled, with freckles from cheek to cheek, on his arms and shoulders from being outside so much as a small child. He has eyes that are set downwards at the corners, giving him a constant sad look, their color is hazel, with bursts of moss green in them. On his left shoulder blade is a long slender pink colored scar from sword training when he was younger. He also has a patch of slightly darker skin on his forehead in the slight shape of a distorted heart, though he hides it successfully with his hair.
Personality: Gus loves to socialize, though this is more part of the training of royalty than a choice. He is constantly forced to engage with other well known royals during social events, though he prefers to make one real friend and only spend his time with people he could get along with. He is kind compared to his family, always making sure their back is turned before he lets the servants children into the stables or gives clothes he doesn't wear to seamstresses in town, so they can use the material for their own or families garments. He loves to watch the stars and is touch starved due to lack of affection from both his father and mother and because of this loves being affectionate towards other people he is close with.
Backstory: Gus grew up like a normal boy but from the age of seven onward he has been training to take over the kingdom when his father dies. He hates being a part of the royal family, seeing as his family members are conceited and stuck up. His father is quick to use his fists when Gus does something he doesn't like, so Gus barely speaks to his father.

• Gus got caught putting on his mother's old dresses from when she was a child when he was younger, and since then he has tried to avoid angering his father. He constantly tries his best to do exactly as told in the perfect way, so he can be considered the perfect child to his parents.

(AAAAA I love him :D oh yeah the bullet point is fine! Actually if I’m not mistaken people from that time often dressed their young children (infant to toddler-age to be specific) in dresses, whether they were boys or girls, so maybe he still likes doing that even tho he’s supposed to “grow out of it”)

The night was young, and Ella felt more alive than she had in a long, long time. She held on to the back of the carriage, while also trying to keep the train of her sweeping dress from touching the ground. When the carriage stopped moving, she waited. The sounds of tittering nobles could be heard as the carriage doors opened, then slowly grew quieter as they moved away. Ella then stepped off, nervously tugging at her gloves. Her silvery blue dress trailed behind her, tufts of lace blooming from the ends and from her sleeves. She looked around, sighing with relief when no one she knew was around and no one looked suspicious of her.
Then, she looked up. The palace stood before her, an ivory mountain rising into the night sky. She could help but stare; she had never seen it up close, it was so beautiful. When she finally took her eyes away, she was behind all the other guests. The last dregs of them were just about to go through the doors. Ella fidgeted with her gloves again, making her way up the palace steps. She was well dressed. She could just walk right in. Right?
Then, she felt something was tugging on her. She looked down, seeing a small white mouse clinging onto the folds of her dress. Ella chuckled, and picked it up in her hand.
“You decided to accompany me?” She stroked its fur. “Well, it is always good to have a friend, especially for something like this. Just don’t let anyone see you.”
Feeling more assured, she made her way inside.

Gus' job, much to his dismay, was to stand just inside the front doors and introduce himself and make small talk. He would have rather been in his chambers, sleeping or doing anything else but talking with the nobles who thought they were so special.

Gus came to himself as a woman walked through the large open doors.
"Well hello," he said in a soft tone. "Welcome to our castle, I sincerely hope you enjoy your short visit."

He was not expecting a response, most people walked right by him, as if they did not know he was the prince, which he preferred. No one ever stopped long enough to recognize him, or to make conversation.

Ella was looking around and everything, everyone, trying to take in detail after beautiful detail. What luxuries these wealthy folk dwelled in! It both intimidated and awed her. Her steps were slow and wandering. While yes, she herself was born noble, her family made it so that she lived like a peasant. Bastard, wayward children like her didn’t deserve what they had.
Her head snapped toward the sound of a soft voice. She smiled, but upon recognizing the crown on the man’s head, she froze and bowed deeply. “Hello, Your Highness!” She tried to keep her voice light and soft, so it would sound more womanly. “I hope so too. It is wonderful to have you as a host.” She hoped she was acting right. Getting nervous again, she straightened and walked off, entering a large, ornate space that led into a hallway. Ella slowed her pace again, staring at the intricacies of the interior. She could here the sounds of a crowd up ahead, chatter and laughter, music too.

Gus stared after the woman, with the soft melodic voice. His mouth was gaping open slightly in awe.
After all, he had ceased to be recognized all night. She had been very respectful and polite as well, even bowing, which was the first sign of kindness that had been shown to Gus all night.

He hoped her would meet her again, all the other women at the ball had very high ego's, which caused most of them to think Gus would see them once and fall to his knees to ask for their hand in marriage.
He left his post, not caring that his father would be mad and kept a slow pace as he walked through the ballrooms doors.

"Would you like me to show you around?" He asked the woman from before gently, so as not to scare the woman, though he hoped she would not decline.

Something made Ella flinch slightly when she heard the prince’s voice behind her. She turned, holding some of her dress with her hand.
“Oh…” she wasn’t sure how to feel about this. She had also known little kindness, so being on the receiving end of it was rather unfamiliar. While it was nice, she couldn’t help but feel a little nervous.
“You’re very kind, Your Highness, but I couldn’t possibly accept. I’m sure you have more important matters to attend to. I don’t want to keep you from them.”
It was better to stay alone and unnoticed for tonight, anyway. All she wanted was to enjoy herself. If one of her stepfamily recognized her, it would certainly ruin things. Best to avoid them entirely and stick to her own company.
