The door to the town's cafe opened, and in walked Eve Springett, bringing the scent of fresh grass and flower blossoms with her. She had learned that most people like to sleep until at least 6 am, which meant to her that before then was the perfect time to go in public without attracting an ungodly amount of attention. Still, she knew she'd have to face the barista, a man who had been noticing her new routines and had been happening to schedule more 5 am shifts.
"Hello, Eve," he greeted, much too enthusiastically. "What can I get for someone as beautiful as you this morning?"
Eve bit back a sigh. "I'll have a dirty chai tea latte. Thanks." She didn't even know his name.
"Sure thing!" the man said. Eve reached for her wallet to get out a form of payment, but the barista already was moving to hand her the receipt. "On me," he explained with a casual grin.
Eve forced a fleeting smile and took the paper from him. "Thank you." She was exhausted, and she let it show as her back turned. The smile dropped from her tired features, and she headed over to a lonely looking booth, sat down, and waited.
group
There was a man in the back corner of the cafe sitting all to himself reading a book and minding his own business
group
Eve sighed and rose from her seat when the barista called out her name.
"Eve!"
She rose and walked to get her drink. A small forced smile appeared on her lips, and she went to go sit back down, jumping when she noticed another man she hadn't seen before.
group
The man took his glasses off and put the book down then took a sip of his coffee
group
Eve hesitated for a moment. The man looked harmless enough, and she was rather lonely. "Um… hello?" she greeted hesitantly.
group
"can I help you with anything?" He said with a deep silky smooth voice
group
"Do, um… do you mind if I sit with you?" she asked tentatively.
(By the way, the announcement about her cat and everything has already been made, so everyone already knows.)
group
"wait your the cat lady right eve springett is it. well I'm Issac Newman" he said
group
Eve flushed with embarrassment. "Yes, that's me… Hello, Issac." She slowly slipped into the seat across from him. "I'm sorry if I'm bothering you… I can leave if you like. I know that early mornings like this can be lonely."
group
"no no you can stay I need to be more social anyways" he said
group
Eve smiled, eager to talk to someone who wasn't blatantly obsessing over her, like the barista who had yet to take his eyes off of her. "Well it's lovely to meet you," she greeted him happily.
group
"nice to meet you.. will you give me a second" he said standing up walking up to the barista "hey give the woman some privacy will ya"
group
The boy looked wildly embarrassed at being called out. "Uh, yeah… sorry, sir," he stammered, disappearing into the back.
Eve watched with an incredulous expression on her face. "Th-Thank you!" she said gratefully when Issac sat down again. "You didn't need to do that I'm… used to it, I suppose. At this point." She shook her head.
group
"don't mention it" he said then grabbed his coffee and went out to his 2010 matte black mustang
group
Eve watched him go. Knowing it wouldn't be long before the regular morning rush of people came in, she left a few minutes after him. Once she'd disappeared into her house, it only took a few minutes for her sleek black cat to make its way back out her door and roam the streets.
group
Issac swerved off the road to not run over the cat then scraped his car off a tree ending up in a street race "screw it" he said racing the other cars
group
It didn't take long for other men around the town to notice the cat was out and began to chase it around, straining to get the key around its neck. However, no matter how long they chased it, the cat never seemed to run out of energy, and it always managed to evade them.
group
Issac arrived home with three men at his porch surrounding a cat "what's going on here" he demanded coming up on his porch defending the cat
group
(The cat will let him take the key eventually, but not yet)
Before the men or Issac would touch her, the cat meowed and darted off, evading capture yet again.
"Damn cat," one of the men groaned. "How are we supposed to catch the bloody thing?"
group
(I fixed my reply)
"Quit moaning and groaning beat it" Issac said to the men
group
"Haven't you tried to catch the cat, Issac?" another one of the men asked. "You're fast, maybe you could catch it and hold it down while one of us gets the key off of its neck."
group
"I'm fast because I street race not because I want some cat stop obsessing it's pitiful" he said
group
The men rolled their eyes and reluctantly left. Once they were gone – searching for the cat again – the feline slowly crept back up onto Issac's porch, maintaining a healthy distance away from him and watching him with wide amber eyes.
group
Isaac was under his car doing maintenance for the race tonight
(A man can have his hobbies)
group
The cat blinked her wide eyes and padded closer to observe. "Mrrrow?"
group
Issac finished the installation of his new blower then saw the cat and decided to feed it
group
The cat padded at the edges of his reach, still skeptical about whether he would make a grab for her or not.
group
"suit yourself" Issac said putting the food on the ground "enjoy little buddy"
