Prompt:
"People must not look outside from 3:00 am to 6:00 am. Children are often kept in windowless rooms and adults often wear blindfolds during sleep to avoid an incident."
Setting:
Our two characters are stranded in a lightning storm after an early night rave/party/concert a few towns over. The pair travel along country roads in a remote area to avoid traffic. The roads have been cut off due to flooding, and they are unable to backtrack because of a large tree falling over the road. Signals are dead and sooner than ever… it's 3:00 am.

Wide-eyed, one sharp inhale after another, William gripped the wheel as if in a trance, his fingers dripping with sweat. His stare was fastened onto the rearview mirror, looking upon the large tree fallen across the shaky mountain road. It was as if he was entranced by his fear.
He inhaled, exhaled, his breath hitching in fear as he saw the clock ticking down to three AM. He never understood the rules, but with such high expectations for his own safety drilled into his mind since birth, he learned to not question it. He thought, no, he knew… that this was dangerous.
His eyesight blurred as he felt the alcohol run through his veins. He dipped his head, taking in sharp breaths. Despite only having two small drinks, he no longer felt stable enough to drive. He chuckled to himself, it didn't matter.
Rain pelted upon the roof of the small car in a large burst, drenching the earth which reared up to welcome the water. Looking up to the sky, and back at the digital clock which glowed an eerie blue, he dropped his hands to his lap. They clenched as he blinked away small tears.

Alice blankly stared at her feet, her mind already planning her funeral. This is is, she was going to die, she was sure of it. She didn't think she was going to die this way but it was too late, it was already three AM and everyone had been forbidden from looking outside. Yet here she was, out in the open with William.

He sighed and pulled his head up. "Alright." He started, his voice shaking under his fake confidence. He looked at Alice. "We can make it through this, we have blankets in the back right? We could quickly tie a few up over the windows." He suggested, his hands still shaking.

Alice glanced up at him when he started talking. "I think we can." She turned around and picked up a few blankets before shoving them to William. "I've gotten as many as I can reach for now, I'll get more if we need anymore."
