Ashley closed her eyes, her hand tightening slightly around her notes. “Okay… I just— Okay…” she sighed.

“I’ll be outside if you need me,” he said softly, turning around to walk to the living room before he paused. “Did you eat anything?”
“I didn’t feel like it,” Ashley admitted in a mumble, opening her eyes to look down at the papers being squished in her hands.
Lucas furrowed his eyebrows. He did not like the sound of that.
“Didn’t feel like it— never mind,” he shook his head. “I’m going to order a cheese burger with fries, and baked fish. We already have juice at our place, so I don’t think we’ll need to order any drinks.”
“Okay,” Ashley sighed, daring to glance up at him. “Luca… You know I love you, right?”
Lucas’s expression softened.
“I know,” he replied gently, walking over to her and wrapping his arms around her. “I love you, too, my angel. Nothing in the world will ever get rid of what I feel for you.”
Ashley nodded and buried her face in his neck. “Good… I’m sorry for earlier. I don't— My emotions are all crazy right now,” she whispered.
Lucas ran his fingers through her hair.
“No, you don’t have to apologize,” he said softly. “I’ve… been too protective of you. Not because I don’t trust you to take care of yourself, but because I’m worried about you. I don’t want anything to happen to you.”
“I know… And I’m glad you care about me so much,” Ashley murmured, nuzzling him gently. “But maybe try to remember that you don’t have to take care of me all by yourself? I can help in this whole thing.”
“I know you can,” Lucas murmured. “But God, there’s a bean growing in your uterus that will literally tear through you to enter the world. Compared to that, what I’m doing for you is absolutely nothing. I want you to be safe, and happy and satisfied and let me take care of you.”
Ashley chuckled softly at his analogy and tightened her arms around him. “You’re ridiculous sometimes… Thank you, Lucas, for always being here for me.”
Lucas held her tighter, kissing her jaw softly.
“And I’ll always be here,” he said. “Forever. You aren’t getting rid of me that easily.”
“Like I’d ever want to,” Ashley chuckled, pulling back just enough to lightly press their lips together.
Lucas pushed against her, cupping her cheek softly.
“I’m sorry,” he breathed out. “For almost making you cry.”
Ashley let her hand find the back of his neck as he pressed back against her, playing with his hair.
“It’s okay… I know you were upset. And I’m just really emotional lately; otherwise, I would have been fine,” she replied softly.

Lucas snorted.
“And this has to continue for a few more months,” he grumbled. “Guess I’ll have to be careful not to trigger the pregnant female.”
Ashley scoffed and shoved him playfully. “Gee, thanks, babe,” she chuckled, kissing his cheek before she pulled away and stood. “Now, weren’t you going to order food or something?”
Lucas sighed when she stood up, but didn’t try to hold her back.
“Right, I’ll do that,” he frowned at her. “Next time, I better not hear that you haven’t eaten anything.”
Ashley sighed and glanced away sheepishly. “I was hoping you forgot about that,” she mumbled.
Lucas clicked his tongue.
“There’s no way I would forget about something like that,” he shook his head. “Anyway, I’ll go order something.”
“Will you get me a cheeseburger, too, please?” Ashely asked softly, smiling back up at him again.
"Of course," Lucas smiled back. "I was going to get one for you, too."
Ashley grinned and kissed his cheek before hugging him again. “Thanks, Luca. You’re the best.”
“I know I am, love, you don’t need to remind me,” Lucas grinned before hugging her back. When they pulled apart, Lucas dialed a number on his phone and placed their order.
