One of the best monsters is assigned a child’s bed to creep under, since all the other monsters say that child is “unscarable.” The monster arrived his first night, prepped and ready to take on this so-called challenge. The monster proceeds to do everything in their power to scare the kid, however the child doesn’t ever seemed bothered.

Upon giving up and asking why, the child replies that there is something much scarier to be worried about. That a supernatural being under their bed is tame in comparison.

Rules:

• Please have at least ok grammar. I get that sometimes people don’t— heck, I don’t most of the time— but please try.
• Please respond with actual content, I don’t want to have to keep the story going myself. Have your character act more than react.
• Have fun, buddy. It’s your rp as much as it is mine. Take it by the horns, derail it, smack it back on track, whatever you want.

Physical Appearance: Sloght has a very feline or catlike appearance. He is something considered a panthera leo devil, aka, a lion-like demon. His body structure is vaguely lion-adjacent, although his ears are larger and pointier, his “fur” is a dark burgundy, and his front limbs are noticeably bigger than his hind limbs. His eyes are a milky white, and four horns, cracked and broken, adorn his head. His underbelly is a light peach cream color, as are the tips of his horns. He has many fangs and many claws, and although the almost vaguely cute appearance, he can be totally menacing when he wants to. Standing on four legs, he reaches about 3 feet, whereas standing on his hind legs, his height roughly doubles. (He’s hard to picture, but I’m planning on drawing him if you’re interested :)

Other Features: His ears have many golden piercings and his tail is peppered with golden rings.

Personality: Calm, collected, noble, and protective. Sloght acts like a responsible being, although he can turn immediately like a light switch. He can have spurts of anger, where the cracks in his horns begin glowing, and his eyes are littered with fire. He is normally all talk, though, and will not actually hurt anything, just talk a big game. He lives for the threats and the fear he induces in humans, although if he grows attached, he gets very attached. He likes to keep things safe by his standards, but will use the excuse: “Nothing else can scare you because that’s my job.”
Mannerisms: Tries to speak elegantly / Flicks his left ear when he’s nervous, confused, or caught off-guard / Preens himself when he’s bored / Lashes his tail if he’s feeling angered or threatened
Mental Age: Very mature but can be childish and irrational when he wants to be.
Hobbies: Scaring young children… It’s not admirable, but it’s a hobby.

(Sorry I had a busy morning. Let me get the starter up :)

Sloghtfoot gave a long sigh, clicking his claws on the tile ground. The small demon goblin in front of him gave a worried glance, twiddling his thumbs.
“S-sir,” the goblin squeaked, voice sharp. “We- er— we have a new job for you.”
“Let’s hear it,” Sloght murmured, his voice deep, echoing in almost a growl.
“There’s a small girl child? Who— whom the other members can’t seem to scare?” the goblin began, averting his eyes. His green ears drooped by the sides of his head, his big eyes complimenting them to add to the timid stature. “I was, um, I was wondering if you wanted to take the job? All the others quit.”
Sloght thought it over briefly, his left ear twitching back and forth. His eyes wandered along the room, then finally rested on the small figure before him.
“Sure,” he replied, nonchalantly. “I’ll take it. Only to prove that’s it’s possible. Then, I must get back to my other duties. Do we have a deal?”
“Y-Yes sir!” the goblin replied excitedly. “Understood. You begin tonight? In a few minutes? Yes?”
“Rodger that.” Sloght nodded, pushing himself to a stand. He brushed past the small goblin, leaving the demon teetering in his wake.

Sloght sauntered in the shadows down the side of the road, avoiding all streetlights. It was only until he saw the address of the little girl did he stop, take a moment to let out a purr, and slip away into the darkness.
He reappeared in the dim lighting of the house. It was late, so the child would probably be asleep by now, Sloght guessed. Carefully he crept his way to what appeared to be the kid’s room— letting the door creak behind him but slipping beneath the bed before he could be seen. It was time— and with his tail flicking back and forth— Sloght couldn’t say he wasn’t excited.

Sloght stifled a large purr, clearly pleased with the frantic reaction he had received. With a grotesque smile, he unsheathed his claws, beginning to drag them across the floor. At first it was a light sound, like rain on a window, but it became harsher as he continued. He dug small rivets in the ground, slowly emitting a shrill noise from the tips of his claws.

Sloght’s clawing buffered as the strong pangs of alcohol drifted to his nose. He let out a low growl, one that would be inaudible to everyone but him, and possibly the small child who had run to hide. What was going on?
He could tell the child wasn’t hiding from him, rather, hiding from whatever intoxicated being stumbled down the nearby hallway. Sloghtfoot retreated further beneath the bed, his ear flicking curiously and his milky eyes dancing upon the door.

Sloght kept eerily silent through the whole ordeal, his ear flicking the only movement he provided. Though when the motherly figure left, he eased again. What had that been? He didn’t know. But he could feel the fear resonating from the child. Although he knew for a fact that it wasn’t his own doing— it was the father’s, rather, that had piqued the anxiety in the kid.
Sloghtfoot slowly rested against the floorboards, listening intently as they creaked beneath his weight. He kept his clouded gaze locked on the door, his ears forward and his tail lashing about.

Sloght stayed under the child’s bed, head in his paw and ear twitching. Sure, day wasn’t his realm to deal with, but he wanted to stick around. The demon had told him this child was unable of being scared, and he wanted to figure out just why.
