Kiera looked over at Fox and gave him a small smile. Then she turned back to look out the window.

Fox drove them to the prison and parked the car. He sat for a moment, looking over at Kiera. “You ready?”
(They're visiting her dad, not her mom)

Kiera sucked in a breath. "Y–Yeah. I think so." She answered.

Fox gave her an encouraging smile before stepping out of the car and opening her door for her.
“C’mon, then. Let’s go,” he said softly.
Kiera nodded, getting out of the car and clinging to Fox's hand for support.

Fox gave her hand another gentle, reassuring squeeze. He led her inside, where they checked in.
As soon as they were checked in and situated to see Kiera's dad, he was brought out and sat down in the chair, slowly picking up the phone-thing-whatever-it-is. His face seemed not as sharp this time. There was something almost…soft, about his features. His eyes weren't as judging, his mouth twitched with a small smile, unlike the usual snarl. He and Kiera just looked at each other for a moment. Finally, her dad broke the silence. "I'm sorry Kiera. I haven't been the father you deserve."
Tears came to Kiera's eyes. "What happened Daddy? You were such a good man."
"I know Squeakers. I know. I failed you and your mother. But…I'm trying to change. I'm trying to make you proud." He choked out.
Kiera was shocked by her father's sudden change from the man who always made it so hard for her to come see him. "I–I…" kiera couldn't find anything to say.

Fox sat beside Kiera, being her strong, silent encourager. He knew she could do this, no matter what happened. If her father really was trying to change, that was good, but if he was just messing with her head…
Fox subtly shook the thoughts away. He had to trust that this would end well. For Kiera.
Kiera's dad sighed. "I love you Kiera. Please know that. And I know I'll never get back the love I lost from you and your mother–"
"MOM'S GONE DAD!" Kiera nearly shouted, tears streaming down her face. "She's here but she's….gone." Her voice broke at the last word. "I–I can't do this anymore." She said, putting the phone down and looking over at Fox. "Can we go?"

“Of course,” Fox said, wrapping an arm around her waist. He shot her father one last, unreadable look before he lead her away.
Kiera let Fox lead her out of the prison and back to the car, staying silent once they were driving.

After a few minutes of silence and taking an occasional glance over at his girlfriend, Fox sighed.
“All right. Where do you want to go for dinner? Your choice tonight.”
"(insert some fast food place). Tonight feels like a goodnight for it."

Fox smiled over at her for a moment and nodded. “Sounds good. You ready to eat right now, then?”
"Yeah."

“All right. To (insert whatever restaurant) we go,” Fox chuckled, trying to lighten the mood a bit.
Kiera cracked a smile. "Yeah…" She whispered in a silly little baby voice.

Fox snorted and glanced at her with a grin.

also, idk how much I'll be on today, it's been busy
I had a sleepover with my best friends yesterday, which was great! One of them is a guy so he had to leave before the actual sleeping part because my parents are illogical that way)
