“Okay, that sounds good.” Nils had to calm himself for a moment. He was feeling a bit stressed, maybe - but he knew that wouldn’t be good for this situation. “The vehicles are in the garage, I believe. It’s a big garage, but it’s outside. If you need any more supplies, now is the time to ask. Or any questions.” Nils has this odd feeling, like a headache. He ignores it for now and finds a bag of his own, a black empty one which he puts the portable radios in.
"I think I have everything that I think I need." Weapons? Check. Food? Check. Medical supplies? Check. That should be everything needed for this situation. "Are you ready to go?" She asks quietly, feeling rather antsy. There are just so many things that can go wrong. She's afraid that if they don't go now she'll have too much time to overthink it and chicken out. She just needs to keep reminding herself that everything will be fine and that leaving the bunker is necessary.
“Yes.” His answer was short and simple. Mostly because of that headache he had - but it wasn’t a normal one. He didn’t know how to describe it, but it wasn’t that bad. Nils just assumed for now it was an effect of not going outside in some time.
“The stairs are just down the hallway from here,” Nils spoke. “We go up, then we make our way to the entrance.”
She nods her head slightly. They may as well get this over with. She checks her bag one more time before securing it on her shoulder. Sighing quietly, she briefly closes her eyes and takes a deep breath. Her eyes open again and she feels a little better than before.
With a nervous smile, Vivian exits the room and heads towards the stairs. Hopefully being out of the bunker will make things feel more normal.
((Sorry for slow responses, school’s started and I’ve been tired.))
Nils spares one last glance at the screen, still thinking about his status. There was a girl once before whose heart had stopped and the screen told them she was dead, but they got it back working and the screen didn’t update. They ended up having to go and update it manually. But so many things didn’t add up here.
He followed her out into the hall before trying to start up some conversation. “So you were from Earth, then? What was it like..?” It was definitely a random question he’d attempted to grasp from his mind.
(It's all good!)
Vivian glances over her shoulder to look at him. "It's different depending on where you live. I live in New York City. It's really crowded and busy and loud but I love it. I own a little bakery called Tiers of Joy. The large number of people keeps my business afloat so I can't complain. There are a few places where there are a lot less people but I haven't left New York in awhile."
"Where are you from, Neils?" She asks, curious. Since he asked about life on Earth she has to assume that he's not from there. That just makes her all the more curious to learn about him.
“Me..” Nils thought, for a moment. “I’m from Norway. I was in one of the more secluded places, not a very big city, growing up. It was more of a large town, but low population. I went to Belarus for a job. I stayed there for a few months then I believe as part of that job I left Earth to work on a space station for a very long time. Every now and then I went back down to Earth of course, but eventually one thing led to another and I ended up here for my new job.” He paused. “I’ve heard New York is a nice place. I’ve been to a few big cities, but never there. I don’t think I’ve visited the States either, though.”
“Sorry if my wording was weird. I haven’t been on or heard from Earth in some time.” He added, looking ahead.
"Norway?" Vivian blinks. She never would have guessed that. "I've heard that it's very beautiful there." The closest she's been to Norway was when she saw a postcard and some pictures online. "New York is nice if you don't mind a crowd but there are some less than nice people there as well. That's true for every place though, I suppose." She went to Chicago for a weekend one year and had a wonderful time despite many people complaining about the unfriendly environment. "How long have you lived here?"
"Oh, it's perfectly fine." She shakes her head lightly. It's not as though she's going to complain about the way she talks when she can understand him.
Vivian nods her head slightly. It's a long time to be on another planet. She doesn't know how anyhow can handle such a thing. She's been here for less than a day and she already wants to go home.
"What did you decide to come here?" She asks, wondering why anyone would volunteer to leave Earth. "And what was your mission?"
Nils sighed. “It wasn’t really a choice I made,” he drawed out on saying I, “it was just a part of my job I didn’t realize at the time, but I didn’t mind it. The job pays well, too.”
“To be honest..I don’t really know.” Nils started. I also have a hard time remembering that part of my life for some reason, he thought in his mind but continued to speak. “On this planet, I was a pilot of the mechs here, and we were testing them on this planet, I believe. Once everything looked good with them, we were gonna ship them back to Earth to be used there. So I guess my mission was just to test and deliver stuff.” He finished. He quietly gave a slight hiss of pain, the headache having progressed a bit. Maybe getting outside would do him some good.
Vivian just nods her head again. It seems like an unfair tradeoff but she doesn't say anything on the matter. What happened isn't really something that anyone can change.
"That sounds like it's pretty interesting. I don't know anything about mechanics but your job seems to be really important." Her knowledge of anything other than what she does is pretty limited. "Are you okay? Are you hurt?" She stops walking and turns to study him, hoping that he doesn't have another cut or anything.
Nils’ hand was slightly at his head. He took a moment to recover and respond. “I’m fine. Just a headache, probably because i’ve been down here for a while now. I should get better once we get outside.” Speaking of which, the stairs were close and while they didn’t lead to outside, they were to the ground level and that was one floor closer to the garage.
Vivian nods her head lightly, still concerned. "Are you sure? I might have an aspirin or something in my bag. Do you want me to look?" She offers, already digging through her bag and looking for something that might help. There's a bunch of stuff in there so it takes her a minute. "Here!" Pulling out a bottle of aspirin and a water bottle, she hands them over to him.
Nils looked surprised - at least in terms of his body language, seeing as his facial features were harder to see. “I don’t know if it’ll work, but I suppose it’s worth a try.” He pulled back the cloth on his shoulder again, revealing the uncanny shoulder mouth that he had shown before.
It’s a bit awkward, but the mouth seems to accept the pills and the water. Which is good, then. At least he knew he was able to drink and take medicine now, if it had any effect on him. But why wouldn’t it? He could still get wounded, so why couldn’t he have headaches or get sick? There wasn’t anything he could think of, for now.
He glances off to the side again.
Vivian does her best not to stare at the mouth on his shoulder. It was weird, there's no doubt about it. She turns her attention to her bag and putting it back in order. That'll keep her mind off of it. She zips it back up and puts it back on her shoulder with a quiet sigh.
She turns back to face him once she assumes that he's done. She's sure that she'll get used to it in time but it's still pretty new to her right now. Any form of staring would be rude so she just tries to ignore it completely. "Are you ready to get going?" The sooner they get there, the better.
He covers up his shoulder again. “Yeah.”
He begins to walk, then pauses. He seems to consider something, then speaks his mind. “Do you know how sometimes cameras might glitch like in movies? Like as in the screen, that you’re looking at.” Nils asked. It was a random, sudden question, but he needed to confirm something.
"Yeah, I think I know what you mean." She nods her head. It used to happen all of the time when she used an old camera to film school projects and such. The glitches were pretty annoying but her parents had refused to buy her a new camera. They said that giving her a camera would only encourage stupid dreams. "Why?" The question is certainly random so she assumes that he's asking this for a reason.
Though Nils can’t exactly touch his face due to his helmet, he moves a hand towards his eyes. Without turning around, he speaks. “My vision is kind of like that right now. Like my eyes are artificial, like a machine. They do that every now and then,” he referred to the glitching out thing, “like how a camera glitches.”
He sighed, lowering his arms and head. “Apologies if you don’t understand what I mean. I’m not the best at explaining things and all of what I just said was a theory.”
Vivian pauses to consider this for a minute. "Are……..are you eyes artificial?" She asks, looking up at him to try and get a look at his eyes. While she doesn't now if robotic eyes are actually a thing, she's just going to go with that they are. It, and almost anything else, wouldn't surprise her considering she woke up on the wrong planet today.
"I understand what you mean, Nils, it's okay." She offers a reassuring smile. "Maybe you hit your head during the earthquake and it's causing some vision problems."
“I don’t think hitting my head would cause my vision to turn red,” Nils said, a bit more bluntly than he intended to. Though in all honesty, his vision was a lot different, and he wasn’t able to see as many..scratch that, a lot of colours anymore. Unless there was some sort of condition he didn’t know about, he really didn’t believe that hitting his head would cause such a large change in his vision.
Or maybe he did hit his head, but something happened while he was out. He left that unsaid, for now, until he gave it some more thought.
Vivian sighs at his less than polite response. "I'm just trying to help." It's not like she's a doctor or anything. She knows basic first aid, CPR, and a few other normal things. That's about the extent of any medical training she has. Her older sister, on the other hand, is a successful doctor so she would know what to do. Sighing, she starts to wonder what her family is going to think of her disappearance. They probably won't notice.
Running her hand nervously up and down her arm, she frown slightly when she feels something under her skin. That can't be normal.
"It's fine. This is frustrating." She shakes her head, brushing off the apology. Being in a weird situation often causes for tempers to flair, she knows that. "There's something in my arm."
“I can feel it.” Vivian lifts up her arm to show him. There’s a small square shaped bump on her left forearm. Something is clearly under the skin.
Vivian shakes her head. "I have no idea. It wasn't there before today." She lightly touches the bump, frowning. "It definitely feels like there's something in there."
"Does it look like there's a light in there or is it just me?" Vivian hasn't noticed it until now so she can't really tell him anything else.
