Firiko eventually nodded off, unaware of the pair of approaching footsteps.

The footsteps got closer, two men hidden a couple feet back in the trees, one with a net, the other with a tranquilizer gun.

Ash heard a twig snap then the foot steps and started discreetly pushing on Firiko to wake up.

Firiko stirred slightly with a sleepy hum, gently pushing Ash away with a mumbled plea to sleep.
The hunters got a bit closer, the second one ready with a net as the first aimed the gun.

Ash stood up quickly and jumped in front of him and bit his paw then turned to the people and growled.

Firiko yelped this time, "What was that for Ash?!" he asked, turning to face the growling fox. But then he spotted the hunters, and he quickly scrambled to his feet in fear, wings flared as he backed away.

Firiko saw Ash still trying to protect him, and barked to call the other back, wanting to get out of there.
The hunters moved closer, the first one having gotten his aim. Firiko was so focused on Ash that he didn't see the gun. The hunter aimed, and a dart planted itself in Firiko's shoulder before he could react, a yelp escaping as Firiko stared at it, already getting dizzy.

Ash turned to him then back at the hunters and lunged at one of them. He had to stop them and not let them take Firiko.

Firiko shifted back , leaning heavily on a tree as he tried to fight the sedative, pulling the dart out as quickly as he could. He could feel everything slowing down as the hunters approached. He tried to summon a firewall to ward them off but it was no use. "A-Ash…" he mumbled, fear obvious.

Ash changed back and went over to him and wrapped his arms around him to help him. "It'll be alright." He whispered unsurely.

Firiko nodded, trying to stay awake as the hunters got closer. Carefully he fumbled with his amulet and slipped it in Ash's pocket.
The hunters got closer, approaching cautiously. "Hand 'im over and we'll leave you alone.." they told Ash.

"How about no." Ash said and turned around to them glaring. "Go away and get out of here. You are not taking him."

Firiko clung to his side, trying not to give in to the sedative and fall asleep. "A-Ash…." he mumbled.
The hunters laughed, "We be takin' 'im whether you say so or not" the sneered, stepping close.

The hunters didn't stop and only stepped closer. Firiko saw them, and whimpered, knowing he was completely helpless to fight them off.

"If you don't stop I will threaten you with these keys." Ash said holding out his keys like he was going to stab them with his keys.

The hunter laughed, "Really? Keys?!" he laughed.
Firiko whimpered, "M-My pocket… o-n my thigh…" he said quietly, trying to tell Ash he had a dagger in his pocket, mostly out of habit than anything. But there nonetheless.

Ash nodded and dropped the keys then pulled out Firiko's Dagger. "Back off and leave us alone." He said and growled. Though he was probably as intimidating as a newborn kitten.

The second hunter paled a little at the dagger, but the first approached them both. Firiko tried to stay awake, summon his flames to protect them, anything.

The first hunter glared. The second one grabbed the first's arm. "Maybe we better leave 'em… we can come back for 'im later.." he suggested.
