SO! Hi. I'm back. I have an idea. Let's get cracking.

Character A is… well, a bit odd. They're not quite a loner, not quite a social person either. They love to just watch and stay out of drama, and any indication that someone's about to do some dumb shit around them sends then into a fit of… not rage, but annoyance.

So it's no surprise that when they meet Character B, the most well known, active, and all around most annoying person that Character A has ever met, they think B is aggravating to the point of insanity.

The PROBLEM is the Character B, from the first time they saw Character A, has had a major crush. And so the drama starts!

This takes place in a fantasy college type setting - 21 and older characters.

Rules
  1. andrew (Our Supreme Lord and Overseer)'S RULES AS A BASIS PRETTY PLEASE
  2. No smut for the love of god… I've written and read enough to last me several lifetimes. No need to further it. I also just don't feel like taking this to DMs every other response. Flirting is fine, but don't be too suggestive.
  3. Uh. Idk if this is even a problem at all (it wasn't really when I was around way back when but still), but don't be an asshole - i.e no racism, homophobia, etc.
  4. I know we have lives, and I'm TERRIBLE with this, but try to be semi active-
  5. No one word/line responses- a couple sentences minimum.
  6. Have fun with this please- don't be afraid to be weird lol.
@Mulu

(hey there! mind if I pop in?)

(Sure! I know I didn't list this in the initial thing, but I would like a writing sample so I can see your style, if that's alright!)

@Mulu

(of course! lemme just whip something up rq)

@Mulu

Wicket clapped once and leaned back with their hands on their hips, a self-satisfied grin on their face. Another job well done, and before sunset at that! They blew the unruly bangs from their sweaty forehead, looking up when their name was called.

"Wicket! The mayor wants to see you," Arabella said between gasps, slowing her run to a walk as she fought to catch her breath. "Truly, we would have been lost without your aid."

The tiny ranger flushed a deep blueish gray, waving their hands in frantic denial. "No, no, don't mention it! Babysitting the Feywild is my job. I would have severed its hold here even if you hadn't asked me to."

Arabella grinned, clasping a gentle hand on their bony shoulder. "All the more reason to thank you, then. Who knew such a runt had such a huge job?"

"Hey!"

"Sorry, sorry. You're just so tiny!"

The ranger pouted at that, crossing their thin arms. They tapped their foot, and the moment their sole hit the ground the form of a large half-orc towered above the town girl. Arabella shrieked out a laugh as Wicket picked her up and threw her over their shoulder, saying, "Who's a runt now?"

"Wicket, come on! You're going to make us late," she half-laughed, half-chastised. "Yeah, yeah. Let's get this over with then," they pretended to grumble, lifting Arabella onto their back and making towards the village.

-.-.-.-
(feat. a changeling fey wanderer ranger i'd like to play in a d&d campaign someday. hopefully this works!)

(I love your style! You can post your character sheet whenever, I'll be working on mine throughout the next couple of days)

@Mulu

(i'm happy to hear it, and that sounds good!! just to clarify, is this a wlw? the descriptions were gender neutral but the title uses 'she', so i wanted to be sure before i made my character! and two follow up questions: can the characters be a fantasy race? and should i play a or b?)

language

(Uh character gender is up to preference, idrc lmao. Fantasy races… as long as you don't make them a god, demigod, asura, etc., you'll be fine. I've had severe problems in places outside NB of people trying to powerplay and stuff like that, so I'm a bit touchy when it comes to certain fantasy races. Just let me know in advance what race you plan to use! As for A or B, pick whoever. I don't really mind playing either, I need to work on my writing either way lol. It's been a minute since I've done a proper rp [almost a year, actually] so yeah!)

@Mulu

(that's such a shame!! i actually have a tendency to downplay supernatural powers, if anything. i recently discovered the concept of a tammer, which is basically a winged rabbit with a long tail. one person's spin on it says they can teleport. was considering making my character a humanoid version of one with very specific teleportation requirements (though an interest in learning magic if it is a fantasy college setting), but i'd be content without those powers, or even just playing a normal a human! also the general vibe i have in mind probably better fits a, but can be adapted if you change your mind on having a preference. i roleplay pretty consistently on other sites, but i'm happy to be a part of your return to it!!)

language

(I'm fine with fantasy powers as long as there's an explainable and valid reason why your character has them lol, especially if there's very specific limits and weaknesses to them! I really enjoy making a power, then seeing how far I can go with the limits I set in place; for instance, if a character has the ability to transfer momentum from one object to another [i.e., transfer the potential, static energy of a wall into a moving object they can both see and place a hand on as it's moving], there could potentially be a major backlash of if the object has too much velocity or energy as it's moving, the character is instead subject to the force in its entirety! But giving that power to someone who's from a normal family with no supernatural blood in them makes no sense, unless there's a specific way to give that person said power. [Sorry for the ramble XD] I'm completely fine with a fantasy college type of setting, the prompt is left open so I can see what ideas people have for the RP. It's just as much yours as it is mine, and I want that to be understood. As for you being A, that's completely okay! I can definitely be B.)

@Mulu

(i completely agree! and by all means ramble about fantasy powers to me all day; i love reading people's takes on them! i actually have a character who can manipulate kinetic energy, but he can only absorb or transfer it from objects that are already in motion. he has to expend an equal amount of energy to what he absorbs or else it accumulates in his body and manifests high fevers as it works to burn it off naturally. absorb too much and he could straight up die on the spot (or like, explode). he swings around a pendulum (like the spiritual kind) to kickstart any small uses of power, which btw is the result of a mutated gene (think x-gene logic). that's probably enough parenthesis from me for now though lol, i'll make sure to ground whichever character i make for this in solid reasoning and a healthy dose of limitations! and ofc, if there's a problem with anything i'm totally open to modifying it. even if it's a roleplay for the both of us, i wouldn't want you to feel secretly disappointed with any character choices i made when you're the one who supplied the prompt!! all said and done, though, i'll start working on that tonight ^^)

language

(Lol, I have so many opinions on fantasy powers that it'd take a week to get through my introductory opinions. I love that concept for a momentum/velocity controller though! The only thing I have an issue with is the "x-gene" thing because that's not how mutation works at all [I'm a science nerd to the max and I've spent hours of my life studying a lot of random things-] but honestly, it's fantasy so I can't complain too much. As much of an advocate as I am for reasonable powers, there's not always a reasonable explanation for them especially once you start delving into actual magic territory, since there's so many mythologies and pantheons and beliefs about how things work in the world. I wouldn't be "secretly disappointed" lol. If I had a problem I'd let you know, but honestly, this isn't the same environment I've gotten used to elsewhere. Over the past year I've ran and moderated several long-term Discord roleplay servers where every action of everyone has an impact on the environment in some way, so I'm much more used to having to be the voice of reason and more of a hardass. As long as you're having fun, I think it'll be okay. I'll start work on my sheet today, so I'll have it up relatively soon!)

Name: Kayden Sullivan
Nicknames: Kade
Age: 25
Ethnicity: American-Irish (Immigrant grandparents)

Appearance: Kayden is 5'6" with an average facial structure, bordering on looking like a block of stone, with slightly tanned (for an Irishman) skin - though the wrinkles baked into his face by the sun make him look a bit older; his dark blue eyes provide a nice contrast with his buzzed fiery orange hair, giving him at least a distinct look compared to most others, though on first glance most still write him off as a simple country boy. He usually wears blue jeans and red flannels, cowboy boots, a black leather belt with a large buckle in the shape of a mountain, and a wallet chain. His body type is pretty muscular and stocky with broad shoulders, long arms and oversized hands with squared off nails that on first glance look almost like he's wearing gloves until you realize his hands are just super calloused and have clearly seen their fair share of work.

Personality: Most assume, based on first glance, that he's an instructor at the college, and a pretty hard one at that. However, get to know him a bit and you'll soon realize that not only is he pretty easy-going, he's somewhat of a prankster, which gives most people pause since he seems like the work hard and play later type. Any time he's asked about this, he gives a shit eating grin and responds: "Work hard, play harder. Life's no fun by itself! Make it fun!" The professors and student body love him since he actually gets things done around campus, including the work nobody else wants to do. Beyond that, he's pretty active in the more physical sports offered by the college like wrestling and boxing.

Likes: Food, ancient art and mythology, drinking (He doesn't often though - the last time he did, someone ended up stuck to the gym roof and while barbecue was being hosted in the men's bathroom; it's unclear if the events are related), music

Dislikes: Not much, actually. He's a pretty tolerant person. Just don't touch his food, and leave his family out of whatever shit you're starting.

Hobbies: He works odd hours at construction sites and farms over breaks, he volunteers at animal shelters; despite his comically large hands, he's actually a pretty good woodcarver and spends whatever free time he has carving small bits of wood into detailed figurines.

Backstory: He was raised as a pretty average farm boy by Joel, his dad. His father always told him that because of his family history, he was unique and had double the responsibility to be a good person than others have. Kade took that to heart and puts his soul into everything he does as a result. His mom died when he was young, so he doesn't remember her too much, but his dad always tells him that his mom would be proud so Kade figures his mom must have been a good person too. He doesn't know much about his family history though. He understands that his grandmother wasn't human, but that's as much as he knows about her. His grandfather moved to America from Ireland with Joel when he was 13, so Kade was born in the US.

Abilities: Kade has a unique constitution due to his heritage, making him more able to withstand both heat and cold, and makes him more resistant to toxins, though it only comes in handy when food poisoning or alcohol are involved. His bones are denser than any normal humans, and thicker, so he has an extra set of muscles that run along the back of his ribs, connecting to his collarbones, to pull his ribs apart so he can breathe. His lungs and heart are more durable, but due to the increased mass of his bones each muscle has to be strengthened, so his blood pressure is higher and heart rate slower but heavier, making him less stamina efficient in the long run but granting him an above average strength that allows him to lift far heavier objects than most. He has no magical abilities, and has no interest in learning even basic cantrips since he believes in the strength of the body and mind rather than of magic. His grandmother was actually a dwarf, who'd decided to move away from her home country up to Ireland, where she settled down with Kade's grandfather and had Joel before suffering an accident and losing her life.

(God, this was a trip to write. Hope you like it!)

@Mulu

(i'm sorry this took me so long—it's been a busy week. i absolutely love kade!! he seems like a sweetheart, and it's such a neat detail that his ribs are designed to expand for easier breathing. that kind of thing is just so so fascinating to me, and i really look forward to getting to know his character more.)

@Mulu

(i hope it's okay that i didn't use the same template. if you'd like i'd be happy to restructure it to better match!)

Character A
Name: Pax Solares
Species: Tammer
Origin: Tammers are said to have been created by witches in the distant past. They were the ideal familiar, possessing an innate magic of their own that made them the perfect messengers. Over time the exposure to magic stronger than their own brought about an increase in intelligence. One such tammer, according to one version of the story, asked his witch for a form to better assist her in. Granting this request, the very first humanoid tammer was brought about.

Another tale of their origin is that a minor god or goddess created them in the likeness of the moon rabbit, granting them wings to someday return and a tail to balance in a different realm of gravity.
Powers: Can locate and teleport to someone using a token, which is a special item associated with the target. Can forgo the use of a token if Pax is bonded with the target (in this sense, bonded meaning having a mutually trusting relationship whether that be familial, platonic, or romantic.) The teleportation takes about three seconds in which an aurora envelops her and her body is lifted before vanishing.

While she can locate and teleport to individuals, she has no way to determine the state of that person or their surroundings prior to her travel.

Her wings are little more than decoration. They’re not large enough to bear her weight in flight, though because her body is so light they allow her to slow her fall to a degree. This mainly comes in handy when she teleports.

Age: 24
Gender: Androgyne
Pronouns: She/her, but is indifferent to the pronouns others refer to her with.
Sexuality: Pansexual
Ethnicity: Colombian-American (3rd generation immigrant)

Appearance:
Five foot three. Cream-colored spiky hair spotted with ash brown. Petit face, pointed jaw. Large, wide brown eyes. Pronounced front teeth with a small gap between. Small nose. Asymmetric dimple. Small hands and feet. Long ears, long tufted tail, and small wings that are all cream-colored and spotted with ash brown.

Wears loose clothing for ease of movement with simple, earthy colors. Wears additional bracelet(s) and bangles on the tail when fancy strikes. Shoes have an abstract rabbit motif in place of typical branding.

Personality: ISFJ, Defender.

Pax is impulsive. She’s drawn to the things she’s most interested in and she sees little reason not to indulge. Even still she has a tried and true routine that she enjoys sticking to, but will stray from for a good enough whim. Her biggest source of irritation is when she's interrupted or prevented from following those whims, viewing those sorts of disruptions as a huge waste of her time.

Pax is financially motivated. She’ll do just about anything for a quick buck so long as it’s not harmful to her or anyone else’s physical or mental health.

Pax takes her studies seriously, but not to the point of burnout. If skipping an assignment means she can have a peaceful night in once and a while, she’s willing to take the hit to her grade. This means she’s a solid B and C student, and she’s perfectly content with this.

She has no problem calling out abuse of authority or clear acts of injustice against others. If the offender doesn’t check themselves, she’s not above taking it into her own hands and dealing with it quietly.

Terrible at recognizing flirting when it’s directed at her, and gets easily flustered when it’s pointed out. Even general compliments have a tendency to fluster her.

Tends to give off the vibe of someone who knows exactly what they want out of life—though that’s far from the truth.

Character Flaws:
She finds people difficult to interact with, partly because she has a difficult time reading their intentions. She’s inadvertently trained herself to assume the worst because assuming the best has screwed her over in the past. This can make her seem unsociable or standoffish, though in reality she’s just a little awkward.

Tries to handle everything on her own, which often leads to self-isolation. Though she has a good support system, she likes the independence of handling things “like an adult”. Except when things get overwhelming and she’s stuck teetering between burnout and depression.

Habits:
-Doodles and scribbles character or story ideas in the margin of her crappy notes.
-Chews on the ends of pens or pencils.
-Does little hand movements when she’s zoned out thinking about dance.
-Bounces her leg up and down or fidgets with her charm bracelet.

Backstory (Brief):
Pax is from a large family of tammers, although a few of the members on her dad’s side of the family are actually wolpentingers (sadly, she didn’t inherit the fangs). Her childhood was rather unremarkable, but chaotic in the way large families tend to be. A million schedules to remember, an ever fluctuating chore chart, and always a few raised voices as white noise. They were a low-income family, but managed to scrape by and never held back when it came to supporting her and her siblings' dreams.

Pax herself has always felt the pressure to do her family right, to go to college and earn a higher degree of education so she can give back once she’s made it big. Though dance is her true passion, majoring in charms is a compromise between a field of study she enjoys and something that is more likely to land her a lucrative job offer one day.

Initially, the perceived pressure to do well manifested into severe burnout and depression, which she hid from her family and attempted to handle on her own. Pax wasn’t prepared for the drastically different life of college after finding security in a high school routine, and creating a new method to keep up with it all was overwhelming. During this time she sought support from a friend she made in her first year, who would later sabotage her chances at maintaining her scholarship due to a miscommunication taken personally.

At the absolute rock bottom of her mental health and with nowhere else to go, Pax picked herself off the ground and applied for a job. With the support of her family, she began therapy and was soon after diagnosed with ADHD-C and depression. And with proper medication and coping mechanisms in her back pocket, her mental health gradually began to improve again. She sets aside as much of the money she makes as possible to pay back her family for their help covering therapy and tuition, but she’s also saving up to carve out her own place in the world.

Aspirations:
Secretly dreams of becoming a traveling backup dancer and working with groups similar to the ones that have inspired her for years.

Pax desperately wants a space that’s her own, even if it means living in a small apartment with a roommate she hasn’t met yet. It’s her main source of hesitation and the last hurdle she needs to clear before actually committing to applying.

Theme Song: Outro: Wings by BTS
Notes:
-Majoring in Charms, minoring in Dance. She does both contemporary and hip hop.
-Has a charm bracelet to hold the very real (magical) charms she’s managed to perfect. Most are for variations of good luck.
-Her notes are all written in shorthand and almost completely indecipherable—even to her.
-Favorite genres of music are EDM and Kpop, but listens to a lot of hip hop for inspiration.
-Works at a shipping facility where she unloads shipments from trucks. It’s very physically taxing, but she enjoys it because she can listen to music while she works.
-The spirit of her childhood cat, Teak, follows her around sometimes. It rarely shows itself to others.
-Sits backwards in chairs because it’s more comfortable with a tail and wings.
-She rarely uses her powers these days, except for when she's running late.

(Lol, yeah I take pride in trying to design characters who could theoretically function in the real world nowadays. I don't remember the exact biology of a real human, but there's a specific set of muscles in our chests that keep our ribs spaced so we can breathe; a creature with thickened ribs so that those gaps don't exist would need an extra set of muscles to pull them apart that connect from the bottom of the ribs to the collarbones so that they wouldn't, y'know, suffocate lmao. I love your character too, she seems like such a sweetheart and I adore her.)

@Mulu

(it reminds me of this guy i've seen pop up on my feed from time to time who does analytical drawings of various creatures making them feasible in the real world! i admire the heck out of things like that, though honestly science was never my strong suit and the bit of anatomy i understand is what i've learned from drawing people. which probably isn't the most accurate most of the time anyways. i'm happy to hear you like her!! i think her and kade are gonna be a wholesome pair once she gets over the initial aggravation outlined in the prompt lol. does this mean we're ready to start?)

I think they'll get into a few disputes but otherwise they seem perfect, let's get started! I'll get a starter up here soon-ish.)

At All-Heights Magic Tech., there wasn't anything that was ever too "unusual." There was always so many weird and almost terrifying things happening that accidents weren't uncommon, medical leave was accepted without question, and the security team could almost always be seen running around and/or crying.

So it stands to reason you'd get all sorts of weird sorts at such a school, right?

Enter… Kayden. By all standards, he wasn't too strange on the outside. Average looks, kind of short. Not too much of a distinct figure in terms of looks. But in terms of personality, he was unmatched: popular, funny, and a decent dude - albeit, a bit of a prankster. And in terms of raw physical ability? Nearly unmatched, except by the half-giants and maybe some of the larger half-orcs.

There's also the fact that he didn't know even a single spell. Not in a funny way, either. He just… didn't have the patience to learn any. To him, magic was kind of the easy way out. If he depended too much on magic instead of his natural gifts, he said, he might get complacent and get his shit handed to him one day. So he doesn't take any magic based courses.

Now that we have that out of the way, let's get into the story, shall we?

It was a sunny summer day out, and Kade was having a blast pulling pranks on the new kids, as per usual.

This time? He'd asked the botany department to set up a bunch of powder plant traps in the 1st year dorm bathrooms, that way each time they were used the unfortunate soul to have used them got a face full of glittery pink powder.

Each time he saw a first year walking around like that, he burst into an uncontrollable fit of giggles.

He'd already been called into the disciplinary office 6 times that day but let off with naught more than a light scolding and more than a few suppressed smiles.

And so here Kade is, running through the halls down to the rec (gym) so he can go do his daily duties during his hour free period - not really paying attention to where he was going.

His friends, the few who were also out and about during free period - shouted at him words of encouragement or greeting, Kade waving and laughing back at them before focusing back on rushing to the rec…

…and running right into someone, knocking them flat on their ass with a chorus of jingles, and cursing on Kade's part.

"Holy shit, you alright? I didn't kill ya, right-?" he exclaims, extending a hand and pausing as he takes in who he'd just knocked over like a bowling pin, and his ears turn a little red, because of course it had to be her-

His crush of a couple months now, and probably the one person on campus who hated his guts.

FUCK- he shouts at himself mentally, scolding and berating himself, hoping she didn't hit him or anything. Tammers could be scary.

language

(I'm so sorry about the wait lmao, life sucks-)

@Mulu

(no worries at all, i totally get it!)

@Mulu

In hindsight, the collision was at least partially her fault. Really, she shouldn't have stopped so suddenly in the middle of the open hallway, but she had just noticed her charms notebook (her personal one, the one no one was allowed to see except for her) was missing from her bag. In that moment of panic, there were a few friendly shouts behind her and she turned on instinct—only to find a body colliding with hers.

The air was knocked out of her before she could scramble out of the way, her dancer's reflexes kicking in enough to avoid landing awkwardly on her tail.

Small mercies.

"Ow," she grumbled, craning her head upwards to see who the other orchestrator of her fall was. The expression fell from her face, going blank at the realization that it was Kayden Sullivan. 'Of course,' she thought, half inclined to think the man had done it on purpose as some sort of practical joke. Even she could admit that the guy’s pranks were usually more tasteful than knocking someone on their ass, though. Besides, his apology seemed genuine enough.

"Don't worry about it," she offered, if a bit begrudgingly. “I’m not that fragile.” Kayden was looking at her like she'd kicked his puppy or something, and she had to fight the urge to roll her eyes. Pax straightened, noticing her bag and some of the items sprawled beside it on the floor. Among those items was her notebook, the very one she thought she had lost.

'Well, at least I don’t have to run back to class.

The tammer eyed Kade’s offered hand. Instead of taking it, she hooked the strap of her bag over his palm and began to stuff her misplaced items back into it. The process took only a few seconds, and then she was standing and brushing the dust off of her pants. “Thanks,” she said flatly, taking her bag back and pausing at the expression on his face.

“…Are you alright?” Pax asked when he didn’t immediately respond, doubtfully checking she hadn’t somehow injured him in her fall. It seemed unlikely. Despite her claim she wasn’t exactly the tallest or sturdiest of individuals, and her bone density was less than the average person’s. What if one of her charms had some kind of ill effect when he touched her?

Her brow creased, gaze flicking down to her bracelet as she brushed her fingers over each one. No indication that anything was awry.

Strange.

But then, strange was exactly the kind of word she would use to describe Kayden. Well, strange and annoying.

language

"I know, that wasn't-" Kade stops himself with a sigh. "Look, ya just got bowling pinned bye a full grown dude, of course I'm gonna be worried ya broke somethin'…"

His words fall short as she ignores his offer of help up and instead chooses to… use him as a sort of coat rack? As she fills up her bag, Kade just stands there, slightly dumbfounded, a little aggravated, and still slightly scared that she'd turn him into a frog, or something. Could tammers do that? He wasn't exactly sure, but the few times he'd heard of one being angry it never worked out well for anyone involved, so… better safe than sorry.

He blinks when she takes her bag; he'd gotten lost in thought, his gaze focusing back on the world and her, and his face softening into a more natural state.

He grins, "Hell yeah! I'm fine, I wasn't the one who was just thrown on their ass."

His tone was light, not condescending or joking. He was serious, but even then it could be hard to tell if you didn't study the signs.

He goes to pat her back before he thinks better of it and withdraws his hand.

"Why were ya standing in the middle of the hall like that anyways? Ya know that's not a great spot; ya make a better wall than a door," he jokes.

@Mulu

Pax watched the extended hand with clear distaste, giving an almost imperceptible nod when he changed his mind. 'Good choice,' she thought, though she still shifted so her wings were out of reach. She didn't like to be touched by others, especially by those she didn't count a friend. Every now and again one of her coworkers would get it into their heads that it was perfectly acceptable to reach out and touch her tammer-specific appendages, and each time she made certain they learned how to respect boundaries.

At least she wouldn't have to add Kade to that list.

"Why were ya standing in the middle of the hall like that anyways? Ya know that's not a great spot; ya make a better wall than a door."

Her ears flattened and her eyes averted with embarrassment at the question. "Clearly not. Walls aren't usually made to crumble," Pax said, a hint of a wry smile on her face. The smile dropped as she ran a hand through her wild hair, charms clinking together at the movement of her arm. "I forgot something, or I thought I did. Though, I guess I found it because of you, so let's call it even."

"And you? Was something chasing you, or do you run around like that for fun?"
