Jae squealed and quickly threw on her rainbow(of course) one piece swimsuit. "I love the swim test! It's my favourite thing about the first day!!!" She exclaimed.
"I HATE swimming," Maryn groaned. "Being wet is the absolute worst"

(Also, I was planning for no bikinis at this camp, but if you want them to be allowed,that's fine. I would hate for me to just go ahead and say no when Jae has been here for a decade :)
Annika was debating over whether or not she should bring her glasses with her or leave them at the cabin. She then remembered that you had to wash off before getting into the pool, so she just showered while everyone else got ready for maximum pool time. As soon as she got out, she forgot all about her glasses, because her old camp friend Malayna had on the best swimsuit ever and Annika just had to ask where she got it.
Otis got his green-and-blue towel out of his suitcase and lung it over his shoulder. He grabbed some goggles, too. Not that he was gonna need them, but in case some jerk threw his towel into the pool or something. It happened to at least one person every year. That's why he always brought at least 2 towels. This year, he brought three, with one for the shower. With the remaining time before the pool, he inner-raged over the fact that it's been a solid forever of complaints, yet they STILL have girls swim with boys.
Jae grabbed her towel (Bet you can't guess what it looks like, lol) and ran outside to wait for Annika and the rest of the girls in her cabin. YAY! FINALLY, TIME TO SWIM!!!! She thought excitedly, whilst jumping up and down.
Maryn reluctantly put on his swimsuit, grabbed his towel, and went outside, This is going to suck He thought and inwardly groaned.
Otis sat on the porch outside to wait for the rest of his cabinmates. He quietly drummed his fingers on his towel, and made a mental list of what he had with him. He got up and walked inside, and came out 30 seconds later wearing nondescript Adidas-type sandals. He appeared as though he was staring into space, but really, he was simply observing. After the final camper FINALLY came out of the cabin, the boys headed to the pool. Otis kicked off his sandals and walked into the locker room. He stepped into a shower and came out ten seconds later. Otis ran his fingers through his hair and went outside. He sat on the wooden benches facing a large wall covered with pool rules and waited.
Annika ran outside, she was the last camper. Finally, cabin 7 could head off to the pool. Annika kicked off her aqua-blue flipflops and ran into the dressing room. Because she had already showered, she walked over to the benches and put her towel there. She sat directly in front of Otis, who was in the bak row, turned around, and smiled. He offered a close-lipped smile back.
Maryn waited next to Otis for the last person to finally come out and they headed to the pool. Being the type to shower beforehand so he didn't have to shower PUBLICLY. He kicked off his black sandals and sat down on the bench next to Otis.
Jae got to the pool area and instantly kicked off her pink sandals and sat on a bench right next to Annika. She saw Annika turn her head and smile at a boy so Jae smiled mischievously and asked, "Oooh Annika is that your booooyyyyfrrrrrrriiiiiiieeeeeeend?"
Annika rolled her eyes. "Jeez, Jae, everyone asks that. No, he's just my friend. My parents won't let me date until I'm like 20."
The life gurad walked over to the sign thing. "Hello, all! I'm Luke the lifeguard, and I wanted to tell you some of the rules! No running or horseplay, no dunking, that sort of thing. You can read them yourself. So, everyone is required to take a swimming test to determine if they'll be allowed to swim in the deep end. You have to jump-not slide- into the pool, swim above-not under- water across the short end of the deep end, and then tread water for 10 seconds. Pretty simple. Alright, line up." Luke lead the campers to the end of the pool and swam to the middle to help any campers who may be struggling. "Alright, one at a time, and go when I tell you. Annika, go." Annika happened to be in front, so she hopped in and passed with flying colors. "At the end, one of the attendants will give you a wristband to show that you can swim. If you didn't pass, you have to stay in the shallow end. Jae, your turn." he said.
Jae eagerly jumped into the water and completed the swim test in under a minute.
Maryn watched the girl cabins quickly complete their swim tests and get out. The last girl was especially fast. I'm just doing this to prove that I can swim and so because my mom wants me too Maryn thought, rolling eyes. He waited in line patiently.
"Next!" Luke the Lifeguard said. Otis jumped in and completed the test in about 30 seconds.
Otis got his wristband and waited for the other campers to finish until they were allowed to jump into the pool.
Annika sat down with Otis and waved for Jae to come and sit on the other side of her.
“Next!” Luke said to Maryn.
Maryn leptin and swam in under a minute as most of the older kids did. He stretched when he got out and smirked, *Tch, easy." He thought. Otis gave him a small nod and Maryn grabbed his towel and sat down next to him. Otis mostly ignored him and talked to the girl next to him but Maryn didn't care much. A happy looking girl, better known as the over-excited girl he saw at the beginning of camp, sat next to the girl Otis was talking to.
Jae hummed quietly and noticed that a boy had sat next to Annika's friend, Otis. I should say hi to both of the boys She thought and smiled. She stood up and introduced herself to Otis, "Hi!" She said cheerfully, I'm Jae! You're Otis, right? I'm Annika's new friend! It's nice to meet you!"
Annika looked over and smiled at the boy who sat next to Otis, then resumed listening to Otis' quiet conversation. "Hi,Paisley!" she said, turning towards a young day camper outside the pool gate, then turning back around to listen to Otis.
Otis smiled, also feeling kinda awkward, not knowing what to say. "H-h-h-uh-h-um…" he said, pausing. "Um, y-you too…" Stupid stutters! he thought to himself.
"Awesome! So how many years have you been here, Otis?" Jae asked.
Otis' friend smiled at Maryn and he turned away nervously. Idiot He thought to himself, Why are you an idiot, Maryn. Why?
"Six." Otis said.
"Hi! What's your name?" Annika calmly asked the boy next to Otis.
"Oh, cool! This is my tenth year here! Do you have a lot of friends here?" Jae asked.
SHE TALKED TO ME Maryn thought, Now I have to introduce myself!
"U-uhm, I'm M-maryn." Maryn responded.
"Not many." Otis replied.
"I'm Annika." Annika said, noticing that the boy wasn't interested. "Oh, we can go get in now!" Annika said, jumping into the pool with a big splash, then waiting for her friends.
"Oh. Well, count me as a new friend, okay?" Jae smiled and watched Annika jump into the pool and followed excitedly.
"Nice to meet you," Maryn replied quietly then realized Annika was gone, That went well He thought facepalming and slid into the pool after Otis.
"So, what should we do, y'all? Should we just talk, or swim, or jump off the diving board…?" Annika asked.
"Why don't we play Marco Polo? That's a fun game." Jae commented, "Not it!"
"Not it!" Annika said, looking around at the boys. Otis shrugged, he didn't really care if he was it. Then he realized and said "Not it!" quietly. Well, it looked like Maryn was it. The teeneagers dispersed themselves around the pool. "We all passed the swim test, right?" Annika asked, to make sure that it was OK if she went on the deep end.
"Yes, I did," Jae said happily.
Maryn realized he was it for Marco Polo. "Yeah, I passed it." He replied to Annika. He closed his eyes and counted to ten then he said, "Marco?"
"Polo!" Annika yelled. Otis was fairly close to her, so he said "Polo." quietly.
"Polo!" Jae called.
The game continued for a few minutes until Maryn tagged Jae. "Agh!" Jae shrieked excitedly, "I'm it!" She counted to ten, "Marco!"
"Polo!" Annika and Otis shouted in usion.
"Polo," Maryn said.
Jae headed in Annika and Otis' direction "Marco!"
"Polo!" Annika and Otis replied.
Jae shot forward and tagged Annika
"Aw, crud." Annika said, secretly happy to be Marco. Just then, the lifeguard blew his whistle. It was time to get out. The campers went back to the cabin. Annika put on some jean shorts and last year's camp t-shirt, and Otis put on a light grey shirt with jeans.
The lifeguard blew his whistle and everyone went back to their cabins. Jae changed into a green tank top and blue capris. Maryn put on a blue t-shirt and blue jeans.
