"Bad day?" he asked grabbing several different colored bottles from behind him and setting them on his work counter.

"Oh god, you don't know the half of it. . ." Jess huffs.

"'Go a bit higher!' they said. 'A little bit lower!' they amended. 'A little less breathy!' they added." they groan, their voice slipping up and down as required of the impressions.

business

"So you're a singer?" Oliver asked as he poured the contents of a bright blue bottle into a steaming bowl.

"And a voice actor. Jessie Bardeigh, pleasure to meet you!" Jess says, imitating Alastor from Hazbin Hotel for a moment before eyeing the bowl.

"Any chance that's my drink?"

business

Oliver nodded. "Nice to meat you too, and yes." he said taking out a chunk of dry ice from the bowl and pouring the steaming drink into a glass. He handed it to her smiling.

Jess tips the glass back, shuddering at the taste but draining the glass.

"Oh, shit! That was pretty good." they laugh, eyes sparkling.

"You been mixing drinks for long?" they ask, resting their elbows on the counter.

business

Oliver smiled when she laughed. "Glad you like it."
"I guess. I finished my apprenticeship about a year ago, and have been doing it ever since." he said putting bottles back

Jess raises a perfect eyebrow.

"Apprenticeship, huh? Sound like a fun story. At least, compared to mine."

business

"Not really." he said looking at her. "Just a lot of paperwork."
"What's your story?"

Jess snorts.

"My story?I went to college, got a degree in performing arts, and now here I am, in your bar, after a long day of reading off voice lines in Japanese and being told that I need to control my voice more."

business

"How is that not fun?" he asked sarcastically.
Oliver grabbed a green bottle of whisky and two shot glasses.
"you speak Japanese?" He handed her one of the cups after he filled them up.

"Because I spent four fucking years of my life learning voice shit, only to be told I'm not doing it right." Jess sighs.

"Yep. I grew up learning it, as well as German and Spanish."

business

Oliver nodded and shot his cup.
"Fun. I wish i could speak two languages." He said smiling. At this point he was determined to cheer this beautiful lady up.

Jess drains the rest of their drink, then sighs.

"I know little bits and pieces of Gaelic, Russian, Mandarin, Ukrainian, Dutch, French and Latin. Enough to be able to order food in each, or hold a conversation about the weather for two minutes. That's about the extent of my languages, though. I learned all of them because I needed to for my job. I speak Japanese, English, German and Spanish fluently, and that's about the most I can handle learning how to properly speak."

business

"Nice." Oliver said refilling his drink. "I tried to learn german in high school, but failed dramatically." He smiled. "So why are you out so late?" he asked curiously.

"High school German courses? Fuck those. I grew up learning those four languages, and it was a bitch." Jess laughs.

"Oh, this and that. Mainly this." they reply, indicating the empty glass in front of them.

business

"I see." Oliver said nodding. He smiled and refilled the glass. "Do you have a preference on drink types?" he asked moshening to the wall of bottles behind him.

Jess sighs.

"As long as I don't wake up until yesterday, I'm fine with whatever."

business

Oliver smiles
"I can do that, but i don't think that's what you need." He said reaching under the counter and coming up with a black shaker. he pored three different bottles into it and a scoop of some sweet looking cream. "Are you curious yet?" HE asked as he began to shake it up.

Jess sighs softly.

"Well, it's kinda what I want, and sometimes that's the most important thing."

"About what? What you're making?" they ask.

business

Oliver nodded and pored the shake into an old 1950's dinner style glass and put a cherry on top. "That may be so, but not always." He set the class in front of her and smiled. "Maybe you'll find that that helps a little better then anything that would get you drunk."

Jess sighs, looking at the glass with some ammount of trepidation and confusion.

"What is it?"

business

"It's just a strawberry malt." He stuck a tiny but long spoon in it.
"Try it."

Jess pauses, then sighs, then looks confused as they try to remember the English word for "okay, fine."

Eventually they settle on Japanese and start eating.

business

Oliver watched as she ate. Refilling his own glass with the whisky as he did so.
"well? do you like it?"

Jess shrugs slightly.

"It's okay, I suppose. But I still want to wake up yesterday."

business

He shot the glass and set it down.
"That won't solve any of you problems."

"It'll keep them at bay, my friend." Jess replies, taking another bite of the malt.

business

"Sometimes keeping something at bay just gives it time to ferment." He poured another glass of whisky. "And that just makes thing worse."

Jess raises an eyebrow.

"Since when are you a psycologist or a philosopher?"
