"Cameron. You need to go to school, young lady." Her mother said quickly, her gaze serious, but still somewhat soft.
"Mom, no one even talks to me." Cameron frowned, looking down at her cereal, her white blond hair falling around her face. "I'm just the kid with the prosthetic."
"You need to go to school or you'll never learn anything, Cam." Her mother sighed, brushing a hand through her hair. "Just. . . ignore them, okay? Go outside later this afternoon and make some friends today."
Cameron looked up and let out an exasperated sigh, blowing locks of short hair out of her face. She got up and moved towards her room, limping on her prosthetic leg. After a few minutes, she had changed into a white Rolling Stones shirt with a loose jean jacket on top.
(gtg be back later)
Lotus yawned and walked down the stairs. She was already dressed in a denim jacket, jeans, boots, and a white tank top. She put a pop tart in the toaster. A voice from behind her said, "Exactly how late were you up last night?"
"Myrah," Lotus groaned, "I wasn't up that late!'
She could feel the stink eye. She caved in, "Four a.m."
Myrah sighed, "I swear I'm your mother sometimes."
Lotus scoffed, "I'm older than you little sis."
Myrah walked up behind her, "School."
Lotus sighed, "Yeah. See ya."
"Bye," Myrah watched as Lotus started walking to school. Myrah had to take the bus.
“Come on, I’m gunna be late!” Elizabeth hollered to her older brother.
“I’m coming, I’m coming.” He said as he walked down the stairs.
Elizabeth grabbed her brother’s hand, snatched up her bag, and ran out the door to the car, hopping in the passenger seat as fast as she could. “Alright,” she panted. “Let’s go.”
After about ten minutes, Cameron had finally made it to school. She ran one hand through her hair as she walked towards the entrance, sticking her other hand in her jacket's pocket.
Lotus walked up to the entrance, she was lucky to live so close. She yawned again and shook her head as an attempt to get rid of the sleepiness.
Cameron bit her bottom lip as she noticed the girl next to her. Talk to her, Cam. It's not that hard. "Hey. . . Lotus, right?" She finally spoke up after struggling with the debate in her mind.
"Yeah," Lotus looked at the girl, "Your Cameron aren't you?"
“Thanks bubba. Have a good day.” Elizabeth said as she got out of the car, finally arriving at school. She grabbed her bag from the car and stated walking to the main entrance, rubbing her eyes as she did so to get rid of the tiredness that had overcome her.
"Jasmine!" a voice with a thick accent yelled from the bottom of the stairs.
"Cinq minutes de plus!" Jasmine yells back, still in bed.
"Vous allez être en retard pour l'école!"
"I don't care about school!" She rolled over in her fluffy white bed, burying her face in a pillow.
"Breakfast is on the table!"
Jasmine groaned and slid out of bed. She lazily walked over to her closet. Jean shorts, black turtleneck, oversized yellow sweater, white converse. She rehearsed as she got dressed. What am I forgetting? She scanned the room. Glasses! She grabbed them off her bedside table and bolted downstairs.
"Morning." She grumbled to her parents as she packed her backpack full of essentials; headphones, phone, bus pass, notebook, meds.
"Breakfast!" Her mother exclaimed, shoving a plate of food in her face.
"Late," Jasmine replied, grabbing a slice of toast and walking backwards to the door. "Good day!" She bowed as she walked out the open door.
As soon as she turned around, she bolted to the nearest bus stop.
"Yeah, Cameron Walker." She smiled, playing the hem of her Rolling Stones shirt. She was wearing long pants today, so no one could see her prosthetic, but her limp was still noticeable. Cameron had never learned to show people it without feeling self-conscious.
Lotus smiled back. She yawned again, "Why does school start so early?"
"'Cause teacher's live to torture us." Cameron sighed, leaning against one of the locker's in the hallways.
Lotus laughed a little, "No they exist to bore us. And warn us about the 'dangers of video games'."
