Vaughn fiddled with his suit jacket sleeve, blowing his hair out of his eyes once again.
Artemis made an effort to break the ice more. "Would it be too nosy to ask why you guys ended up here? Apparently my reason is a bit tame."

Paige eyed Vaughn, deciding that she would ask him what was wrong later. She reached to fiddle with her necklace, before realizing that she was supposed to be hiding it. She casually moved her hand to play with her hair instead.

“Assault, arson, and breaking and entering,” Vaughn murmured in a casual tone. He wouldn’t say why he thought to do that, though. No, too personal he thought, mind drifting to the tattoo.
"Stole a candy bar," Zanna sighed.

"Really? You did all that?" Paige didn't see Vaughn as the type of guy to do…anything bad really.

“Mhm,” Vaughn hummed in response, nodding slowly. He remembered how dark of a place he had been in before he came to this place. His younger mind had wanted to punish someone for what happened to his mother and sister. He remembered breaking into people’s houses that had men who were convicted abusers, and he remembered taking his anger out on the men with his fists or even other sharp weapons. Once or twice, afterwards, he would catch fire to the sinful home. He didn’t regret any of it.
"Wow. I'm lame compared to y'all."
"You think stealing a candy bar isn't lame," Zanna pointed to herself.

Paige shrugged along to the conversation. She had told Artemis that she had punched her brother, but that wasn't the end of it. She had multiple fights with her mother as well, most of which left both of them bruised.
"Well, that's an actual 'crime'. All I got sent here for is not conforming to being 'Lady-like'."
"It's not a crime," Zanna softly exclaimed, "I ran a f*cking gang and yet I'm here because I stole a single f *cking candy bar!"
Artemis blinked. "Wow."

Vaughn listened silently now, finger tips absentmindedly tracing patterns on the table top. He tended to do it without realizing it. An old partner would always give him shit for it, saying that he always touched her when just sitting around, almost like he got bored. Of course he didn’t mean to, it was just something he did.

"And you know what happened to me Artemis." Paige responded, not wanting to give away any of her backstory to these strangers.
She nodded. "Yup. I'm definitely lame compared to you guys."

"I don't think that's a bad thing here. You'll be such a teacher's pet."
"And I will be the bane of their existence," Zanna smirked.
(So the headmaster/mistress/warden is experimenting on these kids and brainwashing them, trying to make a human not born biologically. It is a superhuman, more intelligent than anyone ever alive. They need to drain the minds out of these kids to give the being a soul, but it would take a lot, and would turn said kids into mindless beings, brainwashed, saying that they have been cured. And maybe the group discovers the plan and then decide to put a stop to it. But the body has gained a soul, and when they find it they either can destroy it, or they can show mercy, and take the new person along with. But if they don't destroy it, that may destroy the universe. Sorry, my internet connection died so it took me forever to post this, I can revise or redo it if it is a no.
