Yeah thats good too! I also hate it when something scary is there and the person is still in that, "I don't feel safe but I can't do anything weird cause it could just be me" and then the scary thing disappears and they freak out like, "WHERE DID YOU GO?"

Something creepy. Maybe a mangled-corpse or something.
A kid that got thrown off a bridge and hit a boat side before the water, so they've got a broken neck or something. The kid is normal looking and crying cause they can't find their mum or something, so strangers help them, and he takes them to the bridge? I don't know, you got anything?
Distorted looking humanoids normally scare people.

How would those two connect?

So this Child spirit gathers people for this mangled thing. What's the story of the thing?

If it was just a person who's body has been destroyed really badly so their spirit looks like that, it might be more creepy

Oh! (Imagination is going now dude) What if the thing is actually the kids mom, and she killed herself with the kid, but she landed on something solid which messed up her corpse. Since they can't move on, she is always sad, so the kid brings her people. Maybe the kid died on the bridge, while she died below, so can't get to her.

How about someone who was raped and brutally murdered, cut up messily with a dull hunting knife, on a hunting trip with his best friend, and obviously was betrayed. The friend tore his flesh from his muscles, and some of his muscles from bone. He did this because the man was participating in (insert illicit acitivty here) and the friend has psychosis and believes himself to be the harbinger, the executor of god's will
