Our characters live in a society where you're one of two things. You're either a Shadow, or an Illume. They live separated from each other by a giant fence that runs all the way around their small planet, to keep the balance of the light and the dark.
Our two characters, one a Shadow, the other a Illume, meet at the yearly council/convention.

Angelica applauded as the president stood at the podium. He had just finished his grand speech about the history of their world. She glanced at the Shadow side. It's so dark…
Abnus crossed his arms and glared at the president as he stood, drinking in the applause. He felt dead to everything else, as usual, but to this man… he just hated him for some reason.
Angelica filed out of the bleachers with the rest of the Illumes. Today is Convention and I'm gonna enjoy it!
Abnus tore his gaze away from the man he oh so despised and rose with the satisfying roll of his muscles. He followed behind both groups, talking to no one.
Angelica took a deep breath as they stepped out into the Square of Twilight. "Alright. What do I want to do first…"
Abnus looked around for somewhere to sit. He hated going to these things; everyone on both groups was just so glad to see one another. He hated that.
Angelica shrugged and went over to a vendor's booth. They were selling necklaces of special crystal, ones harvested during the full moon.
Abnus found a wall to sit on and resolutely sat there, rubbing a scar idly. He caught interest in a booth selling weapons from the Illume culture, unfortunately he didn't bring half of his savings account to get one.
