His eyes opened. Stop thinking about them, it just makes it worse… Great observation, stupid. Pointing out the obvious as usual. Leave me alone!

"Hey, you okay?" Rae said with sincerity.

"I'm…" Are you really fine, though? "I-I don't know, Rae…"

“Let’s think about something else.” Rae said, trying to change the subject.

Raven nodded. "Like what?"

“Like…” Rae looked for something else to talk about. “Ice cream. I always have some sad ice cream in the freezer just in case.” She walked over to the kitchen and got two bowls, spoons, and some ice cream.

"Sad ice cream? You must get sad a lot to need designated ice cream." Raven laughed weakly.

“It can also be used as celebration ice cream or angry ice cream.” Rae responded with a slight laugh.

Raven sat at the counter, still looking tired. He wished he was able to sleep through the night.

“Did you get any sleep?” Rae asked. She filled the bowls with some ice cream and put a spoon in both.

"Some… I just couldn't stop thinking about the storm and the tree. I was having nightmares about it…" He took a bite of ice cream.

Chrissa was bored. She headed to the kitchen. "Got a call from the landlady about rent." she muttered. "As if anyone here actually has a job besides me."

"I have two jobs thanks," Michael mutters from the couch, just waking up from a nap

"I have a job! I just don't tell you guys anything because my opinion isn't important." Raven shrugged, staring at the ice cream.

"I mean a real job. I'm a writer and sketch comedian, and you guys do what, work in retail or fast food?"

"I work at a library, actually."

"Touche."

"Yeah, I was there so often they just kind of offered me a job." Raven shrugged. "It's pretty good, in terms of pay and the work."

"Right. Sorry."

"No problem." Raven ate more ice cream. At least this conversation was helping him forget about the events from earlier, if nothing else. Occasionally visions of his parents flashed before his eyes, though, and he flinched a bit whenever they did.

Rae’s eyes were still a tiny bit red. She tried to hide it though. She continued to eat her ice cream. She stayed silent.

Raven sighed, pushing around the ice cream in his bowl with a spoon, but not actually eating it.

Every once in a while Rae saw Raven flinch. I shouldn't have told him. But he deserved to know. She thought

Eventually, Raven just pushed the bowl away and hid his face in his hands, closing his eyes. Just stop thinking about it…

Look what you've done now. Rae thought. She walked over to Raven. "Raven, I'm sorry. I shouldn't have told you." She said.

"No… n-no, it's not your fault… I… I-I needed to know.." You're still thinking about it, aren't you? Shut up.

"Try not to think about it. We could go do something to take your mind off it." Rae said.

Raven nodded, looking up at Rae. He was tired, and his eyes were still red from crying and sleep deprivation.

"We could watch a movie." Rae offered.

"Okay… what do you want to watch?"
