(alright)
Alex came in. He smiled when he spotted Cecil, and got in line. He'd say hello in a minute, after he got his coffee. He had dark smudges under his eyes from staying up so late and getting up so early. The smudges, he knew, wouldn't go away anytime soon, but the coffee would help make sure he didn't pass out during the day.

"Alex! Hello!" Cecil turned around when he saw his friend come in. "You look absolutely horrible!" one would wonder why this was said in such a relaxed way.

@ElderGod-Icefire

Alex smiled. "Hey, Cecil!" He greeted. "Thanks." He said dryly, yawning and stretching slightly. "I didn't get enough sleep last night. Figured coffee would be a good picker upper." He shrugged. "Nice to see you."

"You too. I'm on a break today and I decided to take Destiny out for some father-son bonding time. I couldn't get paternal leave, and it's been…. rough, but manageable." he looked down. He had barely slept for the entire two weeks since he'd adopted his son, and it didn't show much since he was used to little sleep, but Cecil did seem very downcast.

@ElderGod-Icefire

He nodded. He studied Cecil for a long moment. "You feeling okay?" He asked. "I mean…you look okay, but you seem upset. Is something wrong?" He questioned, looking at Cecil worriedly.

"Just feeling a little out of it. Wanna sit down?" he asked, rubbing the back of his neck awkwardly.

”be right up, ” Finn had said writing something on the cup and placing it to the side. He looks at the next customer.

Sarah swerved around the guys talking by the counter. “Hey could I get a refill on this?” She asked the barista.

@Spider-man

(let's pretend Cecil paid because I momentarily forgot how cafes work)
”Of course what was it?” he asked taking the cup.

“Uh…London fog I think. Sorry, I have terrible memory.” She shrugged.

(Yeah okay lol.)

”Ok that'll be right up, ” he says in his cheery customer service voice before telling her the price.

Alex nodded. "Sure." He said, leading the way over to a table. He sat down, smiling slightly at Cecil and the kid. "What's been going on?" He asked. "Other than getting used to having a kid around." He smiled.

"Nothing much, other than getting used to having a kid around. Just a cramped office, long hours, and having to be away from home. It's not fun at all." he frowned.

@ElderGod-Icefire

Alex nodded. "Ah. That sucks. I'm really sorry." He said, making a face. "But hey, things will get better." If he was honest, he wasn't sure exactly what to say. He hardly ever did. He made jokes a lot, but something told him that a joke wouldn't be a good idea right now. Plus he was too exhausted to come up with any good ones.

Mack walked down the sidewalk, he had just decided to wander around to see what he could find. He spotted a cafe and after a short debate went inside to get coffee and sit for a while. He walked up to the county and looked at the menu for a moment deciding what to get before going up to the counter to order.

River chugged the coffee in one go and decided to get another one, but it’s not like coffee could fill up the void in his head.
“hey, could i get another one?”

@Spider-man

”sure coming right up, ” He said before telling him the price.

"I do hope so. But you know, Destiny's such a cute little kiddo, I always seem to forget the world around me when I'm with him!" Cecil smiled.

@ElderGod-Icefire

Alex nodded, and smiled lightly. "Ah. That's good." He said, looking at Cecil. "Do I get an introduction to Destiny, or no?" He grinned. "Not that I'm a stranger to the forces of Destiny moving in my life." He Jo with a wink and a grin.

"Huh?" Cecil asked, then shook his head. He rarely understood Alex's jokes, so it wasn't a surprise to him that he'd be confused with this one too. "Yeah, he's sleeping, so be careful, but you can hold him," Cecil carefully removed Destiny from his papoose, cradling the small boy in his arms.

@ElderGod-Icefire

Alex grinned, then nodded, taking Destiny gently. "I'm always careful." He said with a small smile, trying to reassure his friend. He looked down at the small boy in his arms. "He's tiny." He said softly.

"I know he is," Cecil gave a soft smile. He didn't smile much, if at all, but ever since he'd adopted Destiny it seemed you couldn't wipe the grin off his face! Cecil had always wanted family, but he'd never found a partner…. Adopting Destiny was one of the best choices he'd ever made.

@ElderGod-Icefire

Alex smiled lightly at Cecil, then looked back down at Destiny. He didn't often hold or even see little kids; sure, his sister had a baby of her own, but he hardly saw his sister, much less her kid. And, too, he wasn't great with little kids. Older kids he could handle. Older kids he was fine with. But little ones? He sometimes struggled with them.

Sarah took her drink and started to head out but she walked right into the two guys talking and dropped her cup. “Oh, sorry!” She grabbed a stack of napkins. “Did I get any of it on you guys?”

@ElderGod-Icefire

Alex jumped. "Ah! Uhhh, no you're good." He said with a light smile. He looked down at himself and at Destiny. "Oh, wait. There's a bit on my sleeve." He shrugged. "Oh well. It's fine." He smiled at Sarah reassuringly.

Shit. Shit, shit, shit, he'd nearly let Destiny get hurt. Shit, shit, shit. Cecil's breathing sped up as he brought a hand to his aching head. Destiny could have gotten hurt. It was all his fault, he should have watched his son better, should have-

He didn't even notice that he was crying, and not just a few quiet tears, real, large, choking sobs as he rocked back and forth with his head in his hands. Destiny started to sniffle at the disturbance, making it all worse.

Cecil had failed as a parent today, and it would affect the rest of his child's life, he just knew. Shit, shit, shit!

@ElderGod-Icefire

Alex looked over at Cecil, and caught his breath slightly. "Hey, hey, woah, Cecil, what's wrong, man?" He said, standing and walking over to him. He put a hand on Cecil's back. "It's okay, Cecil. Nothing's wrong. Destiny is fine, alright?" He said gently, rubbing Cecil's back. "Just…just calm down." He floundered slightly, unsure of exactly what to say to comfort his friend. "I promise it's going to be fine. It's just some spilled coffee."

It sounded like Alex was underwater. Cecil backed away at the touch, he couldn't be touched right now, couldn't handle that. "I'm sorry, I'm sorry," he mumbled.

@ElderGod-Icefire

"There's nothing to be sorry for." Alex said slowly. He wasn't sure exactly what to say. Damn it, he wasn't cut out for reassuring people. He was supposed to be the comic relief! He bit his lip slightly. "Cecil, there's nothing to be sorry for." He said again. "Everything's fine."
