Oliver watched quietly as a smaller figure walked up next to him, ashy curls hanging around a snow white mask in the shape of a rabbit, with small flowers covering the surface. He frowned a bit when he noticed a tarot card being drawn out and placed on the table. He had seen a few before…but what did this mean exactly?
"Look. My people believe that the future is not set in stone. It is as fluid and as interchangeable as water. And yet, the water must follow the path of the tides. Kind of like a sonnet, you know? Iambic pentameter and all that, but you get to do whatever you want in those strict borders." Theta took a deep breath, realizing too late that she had slipped into a sea faerie accent. "And right now, something's going to start us off on a sonnet."
Reyna took a step back, eyes narrowing. She didn’t notice Madelyn on her way out. “You’re not Rose, are you?” There were probably more concerning things in that short speech, but priorities. Make sure you trust who you’re talking to, and all that jazz. Weird advice, coming from the Queen of Hearts, but it was what her mother drilled into her.
"I am a rose, of course!" Theta said, lowering her voice so that the 'a' was almost unable to be heard and making it seem like a small breath for air. She also said with an inflection that made it sound as if she was simply saying "I am Rose, of course."
Although not being able to lie was quite tricky, she found certain loopholes in this. She gestured to her dress so that onlookers would think that she was talking about her dress, but to Reyna, it would look like she was gesturing to herself.
"Young, Sibyl," Cassandra called out from the balcony, She threw her entire deck of cards into the air above the crowd, "Best know whom you're working with." The cards disappeared amongst the people below. Unknown to some of the party goers a card might have found it's way into a pocket or hair or struck to the underside of shoes.Even Madelyn missed the card that got caught on her clothes.
“Who was she?” Althea asked
"Someone who just can't say anything simply," Madelyn looked at the card she was handed, "Always has to be so crypt about everything."

“Your people? Water references? And it’s not the first time I’ve heafd the accent,” Reyna said, turning to go down the stairs. “Careful, there.” She didn’t notice the card nestled next to Ace in her pocket.
(Well they are getting caught on everyones clothes.)

“Do you use Tarot cards yourself?” She asked
"Once or twice, not really my thing," Madelyn said, "Cassandra and I have different ways of doing things."
“Your people? Water references? And it’s not the first time I’ve heard the accent,” Reyna said, turning to go down the stairs. “Careful, there.” She didn’t notice the card nestled next to Ace in her pocket.
Theta nodded, a small smirk on her face. "Call me," she said, tucking a small shell into Reyna's hand. "Throw this into saltwater, and I will appear. Just don't do it in between seven and eight, I take my showers around then and I'm pretty sure we're not at that stage yet."
"Once or twice, not really my thing," Madelyn said, "Cassandra and I have different ways of doing things."
“I never asked your name.” She said “call me Aly.” She said
"Lyn, people can call me Lyn for now," Madelyn ran her fingers over the card, What does the world have to do with my search it doesn't feel like I'm close to the end like this card means.
“Well lyn, I heard you mention that you father was missing?” She asked
"Yeah, he is." Madelyn shoved the cared into her pocket. She felt vulnerability for a second before hardening that feeling turned into anger, "What's it to you?"
“It’s just that— I find it odd that my mother has been missing for a while now too. She the only family I have and all locating spells I did failed. Coincidence?” She told her
Madelyn sighed and looked at the girl realizing that she was one of the people she who had trigged the visions. "Everything is important," she sighed, "Nothing is making sense and everything is making nonsense."
Althea nodded her head in agreement “of course why else would our parents be missing.”
"So what do you know about this whole situation?" Madelyn asked.
Reyna stared at the shell for a minute before cautiously taking it, throwing Theta a smile. “I hope we can get there.” Turning around to leave, she walked away for a bit before almost crashing into two girls, distracted by the shell in her hands.
“Well all I know is that my mother has been gone for far longer than she should be. She goes out only 3 days but it’s almost been 3 weeks. I also know that there are others like me because different location spells showed me different people. I came to this party for answers and saw a lot of dark auras.” She said right before someone crashed into them
"Missing parents too?" Oliver spoke up, tilting his head to the side as he watched the girls talk. He reached up, silently adjusting his porcelain mask as a smaller, wide-eyed girl beside him watched the girls with a curious gaze. She seemed quite frail, with straight, ashy hair and a thinner body, though her gaze still head some sort of fierce protectiveness behind them.
“Missing parents?” Reyna echoed. Her own mother had been gone for a few days now, which never happened. The kingdom didn’t know, but they would soon enough.
Thing are coming together and falling apart fast. Madelyn thought to herself I'm getting answers to questions I didn't ask and find questions to which I have no answers. She shook her head trying to force the information together as a result the bells on her hat into a cacophony of sound. "I can't, I can't deal with a conspiracy. I'm already crazy enough."
(Maybe they should time skip and meet up somewhere, soon?)
(since theta's not around to hear this exchange, maybe reyna calls her there after she remembers what theta said about "fate"?)
