Personality: Messy, funny, and a bit shy. Once you get to know her she is pretty cool and friendly, but can seem a little stuck up to people who don't know her (it's because of her shyness, she is actually quite friendly). Can be a bit dense sometimes. Gets frightened/nervous easily, and can be uptight sometimes. She usually follows the rules, but will bend them occasionally. A "good girl" but also kind of a mess. Blushes a lot when she's nervous. Very talkative once she gets to know you. Doesn't always do things the order or way you would want or expect but always gets there in the end. No sense of direction or time.
Appearance: Short curly coffee brown hair, rounded brown glasses, freckles, chocolate brown eyes, and a round face. Medium sized nose and eyes, as well as average height. Shoulder freckles. Slim-ish build. She likes wearing soft greens and browns and vintage clothes. She sometimes has some paint or marker smears on her clothes or hands since she is an artist and a pretty messy one at that. Long, thin artist's fingers. Usually paints her nails and wears a small amount of makeup.
Backstory: Fern is the oldest of five kids, so she is drowned out by her younger siblings sometimes. She is fairly independent. She is pretty sheltered but longs for freedom instead of the comfort she's used to. Not rich, but not poor either. Her family is pretty average.

Personality: He's the cool kid of the school, always breaking some kind of rule. Occasionally a flirt which leaves a lot of broken hearts behind him he chooses not to see. He's got a reputation among teachers and students. He pushes rebellion in any way he can. That is, when he's at school. At home with his grandma, he is the most caring person someone could ever meet- always staying with her, singing her songs, writing her poems. That's where he'll actually smile. If you happen to get past those cool vibes, you'll find a warm, beating, and fragile heart, barely holding on.

Backstory: He never knew his dad, so when his mom died, all he had left was his grandma. She's slowly fading, memories of her passed husband slowly slipping. He's taken care of her for about ten years now. He's learned the only way to survive is to push yourself to the top of everyone which means hiding parts of himself- his beautiful voice, poetry, and thoughtfulness.

Ms.Gonzalez turned to the class. “Attention everyone, get settled please because it’s time for a project!” She called as the students came into class. “We’re going to be making a movie interpretation of To Kill a Mockingbird with a partner. And no, you can’t pick your partners. I’m assigning them. Once you have your partners, you will get a sheet with the rules on it.” Fern was honestly a little excited. This was more creativity in a class than she had been allowed in a while. She waited anxiously while Ms.Gonzalez announced the name she of everyone.
The bell had rung and Zavian walked in late to class. Everyone seemed to be taking their seat and staring up at the teacher. His group walked in behind him, all laughing from a joke mentioned in the hallways. He walked past the teacher amd to his desk in the front row, slouching back in his chair, not bothering to take his backpack off as he crossed his arms over his chest. A smirk found it's way to his face.
Fern was getting nervous as Ms.Gonzalez got to the last few names. Most of her friends had been assigned a partner already, and she glanced at her one remaining friend in desperation before he, too, was chosen. “Fern Jasper and Zavian Torres,” she said. Fern glanced across the room at the aforementioned boy. Crap.
