Alright lemme try and make a clear idea out of it XP
These kids collect objects off of the street. One day they get a particularly good haul. As they're walking home, one of them is playing with this rubber ball when he disappears. Just disappears.
The idea is that the rubber ball was a portal/portkey/whatever-you-want-to-call-it and one of them has been teleported. Which leads to them trying to find each other again.
