Moxiey swam beneath the surface, looking for a good rock to perch on to watch humans. If there were any. Hardly a few came to this part of the cove.
Liam paddled out onto the water, completely alone. The waves were calm today and his friends had all passed on coming to the beach today. He smiled at nothing and sighed happily.
Moxiey noticed some movement. Just a passing fish? No… a human! She curiously swam over and watched him, a little closer than she thought she'd be.
Liam laughed at nothing in particular and slid off his board it wasn’t like it was going to float away in calm waters. He dunked his head under the water, smiling at the familiar ocean taste.
Moxiey watched him admiringly. She flicked her tail and glided a little closer. A piece of her hair happened to tickle his ankle.
Liam jumped at the feel of whatever had touched his foot and look down to see… What the… He climbed on to his board looking at the girl. With a tail
Moxiey withdrew. He saw her. She began swimming away through the cove.
“Hey wait!” Liam called, following the mermaid. A real living mermaid.
Moxiey panicked. She ducked behind a rock, hoping he didn't see.
Liam paddled slowly towards the girl. Mermaid and peaked round the rock, “You can’t hide very well.”
She flinched a little. "Don't hurt me."
Liam frowned, “Why would I?”
Moxiey eyed him suspiciously. "The ones that chase me are the ones that want to hurt me," she murmured.
“I don’t want to hurt you. I swear it.” Liam said, making an ‘x’ over his heart, “I didn’t even know you were real.”
"I… I'm real," she replied.
Liam smiled, “I’m Liam, and you are?”
"Moxiey," the young mermaid replied shyly, much unlike her usual, outgoing self.
"I'm pleased to meet you, Moxiey," Liam said politely, "I didn't know mermaid's existed." He couldn't take his eyes off her magnificent tail.
"We do," she said, noticing his gaze on her tail. She shifted a little to bring it into a better view.
“Wow… just… wow.” Was all Liam could manage to say. A really mermaid. And a pretty cute one at that… “What does it feel like?” Liam took a moment to scold thimself for the stupid question.
"What do you mean?" she asked, her nose wrinkling in confusion.
