Malcolm reluctantly left his laboratory and noticed that William was gone. A breif smile crossed his face, but Hiro still lingered in his mind.

With a growl of frustration, Malcolm beckoned to the spider robot to follow him and left the building. He looked around cautiously, then headed away, hoping to find the kid quickly.

The AI went inside, still keeping watch but in a more subtle fashion. The other robots did likewise.

Malcolm sighed irritably, wandering aimlessly. He still hadn’t found Hiro. He cursed under his breath, turning to head back home. He then remembered something.

Malcolm grinned, tapping his eye and linking to the nanobots within Hiro. He saw a familiar street, William, and a girl he didn’t know. With a snort, Malcolm disconnected from the link and passed through an alley, heading for the area with the children.

Malcolm closed on the spot with the three, pulling out a pistol in case he needed to shoot someone. He rounded a street corner, and ducked into an alley, watching the three from a distance.

Malcolm groaned and sat up, his limbs aching and an instant headache forming. He took Hiro’s help and stood, then straightened a few strands of his hair.

“Figures I’d forget that I never sneak. I’m absolutely shit at it,”he snorted, nodding at Hiro in thanks.

He reached down and snatched his pistol, stuffing it into a pocket. He then walked out into the open, glancing William with an uninterested glare before scrutinizing the girl cautiously.

“Why are you out here? Scavenging, exploring?”Malcolm asked Ruthie.

He wondered if he might recruit her as a scavenger. He could always use help there, considering that he was a bit frail to do it himself, the AI only occasionally visited, and his robots were a bit small to carry many supplies. But, he wouldn’t risk it if Ruthie wasn’t to his liking.

(Wave. I’m just waiting for the others to have their turn)

Malcolm ignored her question, instead continuing with his own.

“Your name and powers?”

Malcolm didn’t expect Ruthie to react well to his rudeness, but he didn’t care. He could shoot her just as quickly as any other stranger. Though he still pondered if he could recruit her.

Malcolm glanced at Hiro in confusion, recognizing that flash. He glanced back the way he had come, wondering why the AI would visit when he wasn’t home. They always knew when he was home, so why now?

Malcolm turned back to Hiro and considered his words for a moment. He sighed, grimacing.

“The AI don’t typically attack each other, but if one is considered defective and refuses to shut off, they kill them. I don’t know how they gauge effectiveness, but your link might be the reason,”Malcolm sighed.

He looked down the street again, hoping the AI wouldn’t try to find them. He didn’t see a reason for it, but the AI were unpredictable, even to him, their creator.
