"Isobel," Alice said sharply. "Get a hold of yourself. I'm going to go and get you a glass of water. Deep breaths, and don't move."
She stood and went over to the kitchen

@blue_topaz

It took a while for Isobel to do as instructed. Because she was pathetic. Because she was week. Because she was so hopelessly confused. But eventually, she managed to calm herself down. Shame arose inside her.

@amber_is_in_a_loop

Alice went back into the living room with an. apple and a glass of water, both of which she handed to Isobel. "Careful with the apple."

@blue_topaz

Isobel drank the water, leaving the apple untouched. The cool liquid was very substantial and very real, so unless she was hallucinating that as well…. Alice was actually there. In her living room. She inhaled shakily. “An explanation would be nice.”

@amber_is_in_a_loop

Alice blinked, confused. "About what?"

@blue_topaz

Isobel stared for a moment. “…….Why you’re randomly in my apartment at 10:00pm….?”

@amber_is_in_a_loop

Alice jumped, suddenly brought back to reality. "Oh.." she said, eyes widening. "Well, if it helps I'd hardly call it random," Alice said tentatively.

@blue_topaz

Isobel had no idea what to think anymore. “Explain.”

@amber_is_in_a_loop

(did you see Alice's full backstory on the 'what's the worst thing you've done to your characters' chat?)
"Well…" This is awkward. She scratched the back of her head, grimacing. "I followed you home?"

@blue_topaz

(oh my god)

Isobel couldn’t handle this. Any of it. She pushed herself up from the couch, crossing the room to give herself a breather before slipping into the kitchen. She wasn’t mad, exactly, but there was far too much on her plate right now for her to deal with this.

@amber_is_in_a_loop

(hahahahahahahahahahaha)
Alice walked up to Isobel and put a hand on her shoulder. "Wait, Isobel-"

@blue_topaz

(ohmygod)

Isobel tensed instinctively. "How did you get in here, Alice?" Her voice was strangely still, quiet.

@amber_is_in_a_loop

(yup.)
Alice pulled her hands behind her back. The window," she admitted.

@blue_topaz

Isobel opened one of the taps, keeping her eyes on the flow of hot water as she placed her hands under it, barely even registering the heat. She said nothing in response.
What am I even dealing with here? A psychopath? A murderer? A stalker? A friend who went way too far to help out? All of the above??

@amber_is_in_a_loop

Alice didn't know what to make of Isobel's silence. "Um, verdict?" She stepped up behind Isobel, shivering.

@blue_topaz

"I don't know," Isobel whispered, watching the skin of her hands grow redder and redder as the steaming water poured over it. "Innocent. Whatever. It's fine." And all of a sudden, she was completely drained of energy.

@amber_is_in_a_loop

Alice approached Isobel who went limp in her arms. Alice carried Isobel over to the couch and covered her in a blanket. "Isobel, do you know what's wrong? Do you need to eat?"

@blue_topaz

Once again, Isobel settled for a non-verbal response, shrugging indifferently ad rolling onto her side. She barely cast a glance at her hands, red and swollen from the hot water.

@amber_is_in_a_loop

Alice went to get a cold cloth and carefully wrapped Isobel's hands in it, holding her hands in the process. She adjusted a pillow beneath Isobel's head, trying to get her comfortable.

@blue_topaz

Isobel was torn between thanking Alice and flinching away from the woman who had followed her home and climbed through her window, but she was thankfully much too weighed down by exhaustion to say anything. She shut her eyes, and was soon slipping away into the world of sleep.

@amber_is_in_a_loop

Alice watched Isobel sleep. She was tempted lay a kiss on her forehead, but held back. It wasn't needed. Isobel was asleep and recuperating. Instead, she set off to explore the flat.

@blue_topaz

ou, do you want me to describe some stuff for Alice to find that she wasn't meant to see?

@amber_is_in_a_loop

(yiiiiis)

@blue_topaz
  • photo albums with pictures of her, her dad, and her biological mom. A few of her and her stepmother, all of which look forced, unless her step-siblings are in them
  • letters and postcards written to her 'friend' who moved to Australia. Slightly fluffy and lowkey romantic. Were written for the feeling of sending letters instead of emails
  • a six year-old pamphlet from a suicide prevention center
@amber_is_in_a_loop

Alice found herself looking through the bookshelf. She quickly found a stack of letters. She stopped for a moment to make sure Isobel was still sleeping. She pulled out the letters and carefully peeled off the ribbon, sinking to the floor to read them. She opened the first one: (you can pick what it says)

@blue_topaz

My dearest Isobel,

I'll admit, it's sort of ridiculous to write you this letter when I can just email or text. But it's a cute thing to do, so.. here you go.
I'm not going to ask how you are because you'll have probably told me over text by the time this arrives, but I am going to ask if you plan on sending me a letter back. Are you?

I've enclosed (wow, look at me and my big vocabulary) a bunch of photos in this envelope, hope you like them. Just so you know, and this is definitely not hinting at anything, but the blonde girl in the photo with the kangaroos is a wildlife explorer, not my girlfriend. That slot is still wide open.

Well, thanks for listening to me ramble for a short period of time about things I'd be too embarrassed to send over text, I can't wait for your reply.

Love, Matthias

@amber_is_in_a_loop

Alice stared down at the paper in her hand. It was worn, clearly cherished. Alice hurriedly flipped open the next one.

@blue_topaz

Dear Isobel

I will be up-front and admit right here on paper that I was very happy with the fact that you casually mentioned the fact that you are still single in your last letter. There it is. Sue me. There's a picture of a koala in the envelope that can be your witness.

I was hoping that you could maybepossiblyperhaps include a picture of yourself in your reply to this, since I have gone ahead and provided one or two? I have an empty frame waiting on my bedside table…

Wow, looking back on what I wrote twenty seconds ago is already embarrassing. But this is in permanent ink, so…. oh well. You'll just have to deal with me and my awkwardness (sorry, awkwardness and I ) all the way across the sea.

I miss you. A lot.
Matt.

@amber_is_in_a_loop

Alice read through the letter quickly, breath quickening. They were clearly on the verge of a relationship. She flipped to the last one, and peeled it open with trembling fingers.

@blue_topaz

(skip to a few letters later, to one from about a week ago~)

Dear Isobel,

As soon as you read this letter, can we videochat? My wifi connection is horrible over here, but I couldn't care less. I want to see your face.
There's great news! Fantastic news, really.

I'm going to give you seven centimetres of page to anticipate.

I'm coming home in two weeks! I'll be on your front step if you want me there– is it a stretch to ask that you pick me up from the airport?

Because God, Is, I miss you. Like hell. If I'm being completely, 100% honest, I want to hold you in my arms. And yes, that's the cheesiest line I've ever written, but it's been almost seven months since I last saw you and I am d y i n g to see you. So please. Let me stay over Thanksgiving break? And for the week after that? I won't be returning to Australia until the second of December.

Lot's and lot's and lot's of love, Matt <3
