She stayed seated, nodding solemnly. "How did he drown?" she put her hand to her mouth, realizing how rude that sounded. "What I mean is.. I mean– Sorry I didn't mean.." She mumbled.

He shook his head in dismissal, "Saving Ellis," he spoke quietly.
"..I-oh." She said. "I might be prying a bit, but if you don't mind me asking, what happened to Ellis? Sorry, I ask too many questions."
"He was around six.. learning how to swim. I wasn't there, and he thought he could get to the dolphins past the sand bank," he murmured, his words trembling. "James swam out after him when he didnt come up. If I hadn't come they'd have both drowned, but James gave his life to keep Ellis above the water…" his tears threatened over the sides of his eyes, biting his quivering lip.
(Wow. So………………..I just broke my own heart again by finally writing about my grandpa's death……..I'm crying rn. But I feel a lot better to have finally told someone about how I feel, even if it was in written form.)

Peter silently acquiesced, shutting his eyes tightly. The motion pushed a tear or two down his cheeks, and he turned his head downwards wth an air of shame.
Skylar shifted her eyes to Ellis. "Poor Ellis." She said quietly.
"It's just him and me now," Peter whispered, his voice gone up an octave with pain. "He's done so well," his words broke.
