She nodded, sipping her tea, "Okay" she said drawing her lips away from the tea and licking the liquid off her bottom lip
Running Scared
James gently grabbed her arm before guiding her to one of the darkest parts of the castle. He wished that it was night, but alas it was daytime. Once there he let go of her arm and looked to her his eyes having a reddish tint to them, "Better?"
She nodded, "Thank you James" she said quietly looking up at him through her lashes
"It's nothing," James responded softly looking down at her, "What can I do for you? To help, with the, uh… With your, uh, new condition?"
" Do you have some sunglasses some earplugs and a blanket?" She asked " because that would really help"
"I'm sure I can find some, wait here," James told her before walking out of the room. Once out he sped to his own wardrobe trying to see if he had those items. He managed to find a blanket and sunglasses, but no earplugs. He returned back to her a minute or so later with the items, "I couldn't find any earplugs."
" Thanks for looking" she said taking the two items she sat on the floor with her legs crossed she put the sunglasses on her face covering her eyes and wrapped the blanket around her so it was resting on her head like a hood
"Again, it was nothing," James said standing for a moment before sitting down near her. He knew that she would need help adjusting these first few days, and his stupid compassion was showing his ugly head so he wanted to help her, "You haven't felt… the 'thirst' have you?"
"Nope not going to because I'm not going to drink and if I do that long enough I'll starve myself" she said
"If you do that long enough you'll cause a massacre," James corrected her last statement. His voice became cold, "Especially since your a newly turned. Your body will start demanding blood and if you don't give it the blood it demands it'll take it for itself. You'll end up blacking out, only to wake up lost, covered in blood, and surrounded by dead bodies. Do you want that to happen?"
" I'll lock myself up" she said turning her head away from him to cough
"That won't work," James told her shaking his head a little, "Understand you don't want to drink because of… Morals… But understand your vampire side won't understand that. Breaking a lock is nothing for a vampire desperate for blood."
" then I'll kill myself or I'll have someone do it" she said "I'm not feeding "
"And I'm not going to let that happen. Rebecca you've known about this for weeks and you still can't come to terms with it?" James asked her with a slight sigh.
" no I can't do you know how hard this is for me it's not that easy gosh I wish I would due already " she said scooting away from him and took the sun glasses off to wipe her crying eyes
"I understand it can be difficult," his words were strained as he spoke since they weren't ones he said often. He took a deep breath, "But please stop wishing that you would die. If it makes you feel any better you already died and now have a fresh start at life."
" I don't want a fresh start I liked my life I used to have a loving family and friends I wanted to be a nurse and fall in love and have a family" she said pulling been knees to her chest and laying her cheek on her knees facing away from James.
"Your brother didn't sound very loving to me," James responded going off of what knowledge he had from Quincy since he hadn't really seen Becca over these past few weeks, "And your old life didn't sound like the best. You can still be a nurse if you want." He couldn't promise the other things, not since he would be the one that had to provide it.
" Braxton used to my best friend but then our mom left and our dad died he started abusing me I would go to the graveyard every Wednesday and I promised my dad I wouldn't become this I told him he'd have grandkids and a son-in-law who loved me and now I have to spend every day feeling guilty for letting him down" she said full on crying
"You didn't know what was in your future," James told her gently though he didn't move any closer. He didn't know if he should touch and comfort her or if he should let her be. So there he stayed, in his awkward in between, "I'm sure he would understand."
She shook her head " it doesn't matter I told him" she cried " now here I am getting married to a guy so he can use me to gain power" she said
“I could, mate, with you and gain the same effects. I offered marriage thinking it was the better of the two options,” James explained though his voice was now edged especially when saying the word mate, “Is that not so?”
" it's not that I just wanted to marry someone who at the very least cared about me" she sighed
“Am I not caring for you at this moment?” James asked her. He thought he was, but maybe he was wrong.
She looked at him " once you have your power I'll fade away you won't care anymore" she said
“Well, I’ll still have to care since you live here,” James told her, “And since you’re a vampire I have to care because you are one of my subjects.”
" right " she said giving him his sunglasses and his blanket before walking away
James took them and paused for a moment. He then stood up and walked after her catching up quickly with his longer strides, “Wait. Are you sure you can handle the light again?”
" Well I don't want to stay with you since I'm just one of your 'subjects' " she said. For some reason what he said had hurt her feelings
“You are one of my subjects but your more than just that,” James told her trying to get her to stop, “You’re my sisters friend as well.”
