"That's what they said before they killed my parents." She hissed.

Eric paused for a moment taking in the information Destiny told him. "I only fish for small fish in this lake," he said, "the only reason why I pointed a spear at you was because you scared me." He still saw the mistrust on Destiny's face so he added, "the spear is plastic. I painted it to look like a real one."

Destiny still didn't trust him, but she folded in her poisonous fins.

Simon said nothing, scrunching up his face. Then, in a low voice, "I'm sorry someone killed your parents."

(wow this relationship is off to a rocky start lmao)

Destiny stayed quiet, the only sound was the swishing of the water as her tail swished calmly in the lake.

"Fine," Simon said, exasperated. He threw his cup of boba away and said, "Doesn't matter to me if you don't want to talk to me."

Every hurtful word he said to her hurt more than being stabbed by a spear directly in the tail. She quietly turned around and swam away.

Eric looked over at Simon and then at Destiny heading into opposite directions of one another. He sighed as he got his fishing rod and continued fishing.

Tears threatened to fall as Destiny ducked underwater after releasing a quiet sob.

(yeets popcorn at Ink)

Simon sat on the dock, feet hanging over the edge. "That didn't go very well."

"Don't worry," Eric said, "it takes time for people to connect with each other." He reeled in a small fish, released it back into the lake, and put a tally mark on a piece of paper. "One day she'll fully trust you," he added before heading into a joking tone, "and possibly fall in love with you,"

Destiny sat at the bottom of the lake, petting small fish that swam up to her.

Simon wrinkled his nose. "I don't know about love. I prefer boys, to be honest."

"It was a joke," Eric smiled. He fished out another small fish and released it back into the lake. "I wonder how the Siren got into this lake… there aren't any rivers big enough to carry an average-medium-sized fish."

Destiny's tail jerked, scaring the fish that was nibbling on her tail.

Eric launched his rod into the pond and the hook caught on Destiny's hair. "That's odd… I never caught a fish this quickly…" Eric said afraid of what will happen if he pulled.

(I just had an idea.)

(Ink is a stray cat but is technically Destiny's cat.)

Destiny felt the hook and hissed, swatting at it.
