He stared at her for another moment, his tail swishing. Then, without any warning whatsoever, he grabbed her arm and hurled her to the ground. He reared up and yelled furiously, his front hooves slicing through the air above their heads. As he came down, he caught Asura squarely in the chest with one hoof, knocking him back. He retreated for a second, then trotted around the group, looking for another opening. His teeth were bared savagely.

"No!" Kaiser shouted, but it was too late. At the stallion's outburst, one of the mares had cried out and started driving the herd across the path. Some of the centaurs ran dangerously close to the group, blinded as they were by fear. The stallion charged again through the clouds of dust, lunging at Kaiser. Kaiser teleported out of the way, but his movement was limited by the narrowness of the path.

"Absolutely not!" Kaiser struggled to stay out of the way of the deadly hooves. "The wrath of Urth would spare none of us!"
"Oh for pete's sake," Mike growled. "Hungarius, you're useless with animals. Guys, run away from the herd! He thinks we're trying to attack it!"

"Just get upwind and get together so he can't pick us off," Mike yelled. "He's not rabid or anything, he won't attack if we don't look vulnerable!"

"Absolutely sure," Kaiser panted as he joined them. "This is the largest centaur herd in Teppa. To threaten the leader would amount to suicide. Even if the herd didn't trample us, Urth or his servants would soon see us dead."
The stallion faced them a few yards away, still very angry. He didn't look ready to back down just yet.

Mike stepped forward. "Pluto, you and I distract him while Kaiser opens up a portal big enough for all of us. We won't kill him, just knock him around a little. Asura, watch our backs in case the herd circles around behind us."
Kaiser glared at Mike. "To teleport this far from the gate is a violation of–"
"Screw the rules, we gotta get out of here." Mike drew his hunting knife and stared towards the stallion. "Come on, Pluto."

The centaur leaped back in surprise, staring at her wings. Mike took that opportunity to come from the other side and sting the stallion in the ribs with his knife. "Drive him back toward the herd, but don't get too far from the others. Hurry, Kaiser!"
"Halfway there," Kaiser called from behind them. "It's harder to open portals here!"

"Try it, if you get a chance, but don't take any unnecessary risks."

(Okay) "Good work," Mike said, nodding at the centaur and sheathing his knife. "Let's get back to the others, looks like Kaiser's got that portal open."

Kaiser was holding the portal open with extreme difficulty. "This is linked directly to the next dimension," he said through gritted teeth. "Stay together when you go through, and don't go anywhere without me!"

"More than ready," Mike said. "The rest of the herd won't hang back for long."

The far side of the portal was dark and chilly. It seemed like they were in some kind of cave or tunnel judging by the hard smooth ground and the sound of something dripping in the echoing distance.
